Yesterday I celebrated my 55th birthday and I made sure that it was a very special day. 30 years ago, doctors gave me, at most, 6 months to live. After 11 major colon reconstruction surgeries and ending up at ICU and High Care after most of those and countless visits to the surgical ward, the last being in May this year, I am grateful that "I can still dance". Though the list of things and the amount of food I can take and keep in keeps shrinking every now and then, I am grateful that I have only lost 7kg this year and I still look good 😉. Though the number of activities I can participate in keeps decreasing, with osteoarthritis also having kicked in, I am grateful that I can still play and laugh with my children and my grandchildren. This is the reason behind me writing the book, "A Young Man Who Refused To Die". I dedicate this song to everyone going or who has gone through stuff. I may not know what it is and how it is or has affected your life, all I hope for is that you continue to dance for as long as you still can. Given a choice to sit it out or dance, "I Hope You Dance".

Over fifty years ago I woke up from a nap to the sound of Gladys Knight and the Pips singing on television. Her voice sounded so perfect I thought she was lip syncing. It was only after my head cleared and I became fully awake that I realized she was singing live. Looking at this video of another live performance I'm amazed how much she sounds like she did over fifty years ago. You go girl!
