Reminds me a little of Zeno of Elea. He formulated the famous paradox of the flying arrow to show that movement is an illusion. Zeno argued that an arrow is in a fixed position at all times and therefore does not really move.

The first comment made, that you need a theoretical model in order to justify or focus on observations, in this case NDE's, mediumshipnetc., seems fallacious. It's almost question begging. In physics for example, in discovering most phenomena, observations preceeded development of theoretical models. Electromagnetism is an example. Some dude noticed that his little circuit made his nearby compass go haywire.
