You have become one of my favorite aquascapers.. Really good job in explaining all the stuffs and not afraid of lengthy videos. Really liked your love for stem plants.. I'm so inspire with your work, I've tried stem plants couple of times and still struggling, pls can you help.. I densely plant rotalas, they grow good, but then the lower part tends to melt or gets algae due to not enough light getting down there, so how do you deal with keeping the bottom parts healthy as well? I just want your suggestions on stem plants, especially rotalas, like how to plant them initially, then when to trim them, how to trim them, how to maintain them.. If you can make a video about it then it would be awesome, as there are hardly any videos on TH-cam about it like proper complete guide from start to trimming to having a healthy thick bush.. And obviously if the tops are bushy then bottom won't be healthy so how to hide them or tips on it. Thanks...
Thanks mate. I will try to make something. About your problem with stem plants, I don't think it's a light issue otherwise the distance between stalks would be big. Melting is not normal unless plants are placed in a dead zone of your tank and you are facing a bacterial issue, probably low flow and/or soil too compacted that not allow plants to release their roots. Bottom stems naked is normal, more compact they will get, less light will pass through, so it's normal they loose their leaves. Just trim a bit down time to time to give them strength and new leaves again.
Yes, definitely! But I need to find a tray to organize that draw a bit... But not also, I need to organize that cabinet too. All stuff was just placed over there. Maybe during holidays I will improve that and make it looks much better.
Another of your beautiful scapes. The growth and colour is awesome. Please i have two questions. How long was this trimming session altogether? And was the filter off during the maintenence, or just stopped with the hose taps? Thank you.
love your videos, that ista mini surface skimmer is exactly what ive been looking for so long, i have a nano, but ista mini skimmer, seems impossible to get from malaysia
Love your work. Great inspiration for me. Quick question trimming of the bolbitis, the leaves were cut. Do you not also cut the leafless stems down to the rhizome? This part would rot if not taken down right?
Always inspiring, btw can you give me advice,I'm using oas 350 which has 16 output but will it become problem for the oase machine if I use lily pipe with 12 size for inlet and outlet
In the outlet I don't think will be an issue, but the intake can cause problems with the level of water inside of the filter and it may run without water or proper levels. You need to try.
I know. It was full open to try to keep the surface skimmer at surface but this was not made for such powerful filter... It's for nano and maximum 600lh
Hi Filipe, I noticed you used power sand closer to the top layer in these hill style designs (basing this on your green aqua demo video), I always assumed it had to be at the bottom as a first layer. I know it has to be covered, but what where it needs to be placed? Did you place it at towards the top because of the height of these hills, and the roots would take a long time to reach the bottom? I'm asking because I'm building a similar style layout. Cheers!
Exactly, placed a little bit above than normal to provide immediate nutrition to the roots. Of course it needs to be fully covered to avoid algae issues. Be careful with that 😉
It's not flawless against algae but helps to avoid it. Also promotes plant's growth and improves water quality. If you keep your routines very sharp, maybe you don't need it. But if you travel that much as me, well... It helps a lot.
That tank is one of my favorites to look at! What kind of puffer is that? I have always read that you cant keep pea puffers with community fish, because they bite
Nice job Filippe, the scape will look even better in a few weeks when the stems grow back. Looking forward to see how it progresses. Will you enter the EAPLC with this one? Kind regards from the Netherlands
This is not plastic... We just need to give time to nature to do its job. Soon will be perfect again, it's not the first time I do such radical trimming. About EAPLC, no I will not submit. Not sure yet if I'm still on judging team, but soon I will know.
I know, it will be perfect again in a few weeks time. I've had a bit of a problem in the past with radical trimming of rotala wallichii, they just stopped growing after a few trimmings. Did you ever experience this, and if what did you do about it? I ended up replacing them for fresh ones and it didn't happen again.
@@nickh9294 I never had that issue, but it's also a plant that I don't use so often and when use it is only for a few details. That shouldn't happen because as any other stem plant you can trim it in the same way. Maybe in the future you can consider plant the tips in between just to avoid similar issues... It takes a bit more of time during maintenance, but the result is stunning. The only problem is that you need to trim them back really fast.
Yes I know this, most of the time I do use the tips. Been doing that for years now. I only had this problem with wallichii, it was just like they lost strength with every trimming. After some months they just stopped, very strange. As I said, bought some new ones and never happened again. Maybe something was just not right with the parameters of the aquarium at that moment
Wow, you must love wet your hands 😅or seeing it. In this tank I'm running around 2...3bps. Don't ask me about CO2 concentration because I don't know. I always adjust my CO2 regarding plant's reaction. 😉
@@FAAOAquascaping I couldn't count the bubbles when playing at normal speed, so I played it at 0.25 (1/4) speed and counted 18 bubbles in 10 secs, which equates to around 7.2bps (that's (18 bubbles x 4) / 10 secs)! I use a reactor and inject around 2.5bps in my 60cm tank and couldn't get my drop checker to go green, but I noticed most experienced aquascapers don't use one. I guess a lot of the co2 escapes the tank due to water agitation.

@@FAAOAquascaping Thanks for a prompt reply Filipe, very nice scape and tank, was inspired watching your videos! love how you combine bolbitis, fern, and pinatifida,
amazing,, great job

Thanks, I will.
I have no words to describe how i like Your tanks... one more time great job
Thank you 👍
it makes me happy that my tank is like yours full of plants and a bit of algae.
Algae is not a problem, they come and go in the same way. If they are under control, we can easily get rid of them. 😉
