Based on what he says about Moffat writing on the fly, you'd think it would have turned out terrible. But Night of the Doctor was incredible and successful. I think Moffat works better under pressure and at a faster pace; working with his gut instinct has a better product than some of this other work.
moffet rushed most of the 50th, he basicly wrote the whole script way before he/the bbc asked any actors to return, he didnt know if paul, chirs, tennent or even mat smith (as his contract didnt include the 50th just seires 5 to 7 and a extra xmas special) would be able to do it. he even had a script wrote which was just clara and unit as they where the only actors he had confirmed at one point (obviously we know tenent and matt returned in the end). originaly the war doctor was supposed to be a younger version of the 9th doctor beforte he met rose, moffet basicly put all his chips on chris returning and when he didnt thats why he wrote the war doctor in (which makes me wonder why he didnt just ask paul to play a darker version of 8 hes a fan of his audios he would of known paul would of done the role justice as proved with his edas the new boxsets and his early monthly range stuff), so really moffet working under pressure in my eyes killed the 50th for me. i loved the paul mcgan mini episode, but the actuall 50th episode in my opinion was not great and actually kinda killed my love for the new series in a way.
