  • In this film you see footage from the early days of the RCAG (filmed by Charlie Hayden and donated by his son Brian) right up to the present day. Without their tenacity and commitment, the present day Royal Canal could be a very different place

God bless the volunteers that reversed the shocking betrayal of our heritage and put their shoulders to the wheel to restore this magnificent canal. I'm just finished walking it. It is stunningly beautiful. I'm very grateful to everyone who saved and restored it

Excellent video, from one who was involved in the longford end, foigha keenagh group,I remember Ian bath and Eddie slane coming down to talk about restoring the royal, which was completely covered in bushes and scrub.and to make matters worse a number of bridges were removed and pipes put on to straighten the road.s.weowe a debt of gratuitue to those early pioneers who for 20 years suffered setback and rebuttal in their efforts to restore this wonderful amenity for future generations, thankfully they had the tenacity to advance their vision for the wonderful royal canal.
