    Is it just me or did serviceablity go right down the shitter with the moto G phones in the usual lenovo fashion (hello thinkpads) ?
    Gen 1 to 5 had clipped-on backs and screws if you wanted to dig deeper (hell the 5 even had a removable battery), but now everything is glued shut and you're almost guaranteed to break something trying to get in (even if it's just the glue/tape so it won't close properly afterwards), same as with the moto Z series. They also slowly removed useful features like the notification led, OEM flip shells with hall sensors in the phone so it wakes up when opening, added features no one really asked for (screens getting bigger and bigger, glass backs, ...) and the price crept up with every generation. This seems like pretty disgusting regression from what made them great originally and it's eerily similar to how Lenovo fucked up the thinkpad line over the years :(

    I wonder if you can disassemble the screen assembly. The rest is quite easy.

    Amazingly competent demo - thank you! I am hoping to replace the missing volume rocker key and was hoping it would just slot in without disassembly.... Is it the full disassembly job??......

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you would need to disassemble the phone to be able to insert the rocker from the inside. Its almost never from the outside. And I can't tell from the video or remember exactly but its possible you would need to remove the screen as well. Some of the moto phones have the access to the rocker from the screen side while the cable may be from the back motherboard side but again I am not 100% sure.

      It's not a full disassembly. The most difficult part is omitted - the screen/frame disassembly. Thankfully they sell screen and frame already assembled.

    Great video. Thanks for posting it. Question, after I changed the screen on my sons G6 play, the power and volume button will not stay in the phone anymore. I noticed in the video there is what looks like a retaining clip holding the buttons in place. Do you know where i can get one of those clips? I bought a new set of buttons as well and no clip come with it. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks again!

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No idea honestly, looked but cant find anything of that sort. Can you take a picture of where the button area is from the inside of the phone so I can see what its missing? Since it doesn't show clearly in the video and it was a while ago so I don't remember it.

    The video is great. I replaced my screen with a complete assembly minus the power and volume button. Everything is working fine but the buttons will no longer stay in the frame. Suggestions or has anyone else ran into this?

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      the buttons have a metal back plate that you screw into the side of the frame if I'm not mistaken. Have you screwed them in? how are they not staying in, are they falling into the phone or are they falling out of the phone?

    Once I disconnected both ends of the charger flex I can't connect it anymore. It's like it is 1 use flex, Don't know how to describe it. Please I need tips for reconnecting the flex, that's the only flex that won't stay in place like the others, what am I doing wrong? I'm just pusshing firmly and It won't click 😞 I'm desperate right now.

    @PBKreviews hello, I think I have water damage because the phone keeps on having ghost touches and going crazy after I accidentally dropped some water on it , it's been like that for like 20 days and sometimes it gets really hot, what do you think I should do? Thank you so much

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Take it apart and clean out any corrosion around the connectors with a brush or tooth brush. Then put it back together and see if it works

  • @diegoromero2369
    @diegoromero2369 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm thinking about disarming it, because the camera and fingerprint do not work either, what do you recommend?

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Watch the video and perform the steps carefully to take it apart and try to see whats causing it not to work. Did you spell water on it? if so see if there is any corrosion on the connectors or anywhere inside the phone and clean it with a dry brush or tooth brush. Then reassemble it to see if it works. Also if you have defective parts you can replace them and then re assemble the phone.

    Why doesnt my battery have the two black tabs?..... And the plastic piece at the bottom is connected to the rest of the big black piece of plastic that includes the camera's dust cover.... :( I cant get the battery out. There are some different numbers on my battery compared to the one in this video. Seems like its glued down and I just have no way of getting it out. There arent any remnants of those black tabs at all. Helpppp :(

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure, its possible you have a different variant of the device or the battery was replaced before and the pull tabs are not there anymore. You can always use 99% isopropyl alcohol and put a few drops around the battery sides and let it sit and go underneath the battery for 30 seconds or so and that would dissolve the adhesive underneath making it easier to pry off. Or you can use a hair dryer to heat up the screen side so you loosen up the adhesive underneath the battery making it a bit easier to pry off. Don't apply heat directly to the battery itself though. You can get isopropyl alcohol here: www.ifixit.com/Store/Tools/iFixit-Adhesive-Remover/IF145-400?o=4

      @@PBKreviews thanks for the reply. It scared the shit outta me but I heated it from the screen side and I managed to wedge the thin card under the right side of it. The top and bottom had too much tape in the way. Turns out yeah the battery was literally just glued on. It was also extremely hard to get the back cover off in the first place, and there was some silver marker writings on the inside. The phone itself, when it was "good", shit the bed pretty quickly in terms of speed. Was snappy for maybe a month. It was free when I joined Boost mobile, and probably was traded in and wiped prior or something.

    Is it possible to transfer the hard drive of this phone to another identical phone? Mine won't turn on. It just gets hot.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no since the memory is soldered onto the board, its not a removable storage. The only thing you can transfer is the sd memory card which would be in the slot of the sim tray, but all depends if you saved anything onto the SD card or you saved your stuff onto the phone itself.

    Sorry, got it wrong about the Sim card not being recognised, it is recognised and shows who I'm with 02 UK and displays my number, but there is no mobile data signal at all, (although WI FI works) and if I try to make a call, it says "Mobile not data available for voice calls" so I think one must be for that and the other for the proximity sensor as that doesn't work, cheers

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The proximity sensor is not related to any of those cables, it has its own flex cable that makes a connection with the main board.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      make sure the cable for the screen is connected properly and also try using a brush to clean off the connector to make sure nothing is preventing it from working. If still nothing its possible the digitizer on the screen assembly is defective.

    My power button is missing and I have been using a tooth pick or paper clip to turn on when it accidentally dies, I know I'm horrible, lol, but now it's not coming on at all... HELP! What do I need to do?

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Over time your power button clicker has probably gone bad from you poking it, so most likely you would need to replace the power button flex cable. You would need to take the entire phone apart to do this, but if you don't know how its best you take it to a repair center to do it for you

      @PBKreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always go back and make sure everything is correctly in place after I am done with the videos so I'm sure I reconnected it if it wasn't. I usually just concentrate on the disassembly for the video purposes and then take my time putting it back together and applying new adhesive etc. afterward.
