My uncle (he passed away a year ago) told me he wanted me to learn percussion ukulele someday... he gave me a ukulele to learn on so here I am finally :)) new subscriber by the way!
2:10 can you please make a video explaining this part more closely? i'm having trouble making a sound with the thumb while doing the bass part. thanks so much!
Just found this video after become obsessed with Rodrigo y Gabriela on TH-cam-very big with percussion on guitar (check out their cover of Orion). So glad I found this video for uke. It’s such a great reference for someone starting to learn percussive beats and you give great explanations. So excited to keep practicing!
Aww thanks for watching. You shouldn’t feel too much pain. The key is to relax your hand and fingers as much as you can, but most importantly, If it hurts... stop. You don’t want to damage yourself. Keep up the good work 👍👍👍
I was not ready for that to go from the sounds of a wwii firearm being reloaded to what could easily have been the backtrack of a Justin Timberlake song Blessed video
It will rake some time since i will get this right but i am looking forward 🔥 I just didnt understand how you do the flickeringthing with your hand. Could you explain this in more detail? (or show it again?☺️)
@@ifferl8781 Hey, Yeah C with 2 Gs is epic. If you're having trouble with the pulsing, I would suggest some really slow practice for 10 or so minutes a day, just to build up your fingers strength. Thanks for watching.
@@ukulelesimon would love to see more videos like this for drumming and fingerpicking pattens too, I hear a lot of really nice ones but can’t ever find good tutorials for them!
Hi Simon, in your "3 Easy percussive Drum Beats" On the first mute strum do you come up with the strings muted or miss them going towards the finger clack?
Great tutorial really getting the hang of the first two, however just can't get my fingers to do the 3 x clicks. Hopefully just practice. Do you use your thumb as leverage?
what kind of ukulele is ideal for percussive? i have a soprano and it doesnt seem to do that well(i could be doing something wrong but the bridge of mine looks a little different and i have no clue how im supposed to play a chord with the bass drum)
Oh my frick im so ready to learn istg ive been playing uke since I was 8 or 9 and Im 13 now. Like sure I've gotten a lot better since I've started but I wanna try something different and hopefully improve more hehe. Thanks for this dfjfvhbdbsjhc
Yeah, you've got to be careful, the key is to relax your finger as much as possible, this should reduce any pain. Thanks so much for watching, make sure you check out the second percussive video I did if you liked this one.
These would work with any ukulele, the main thing is to experiment with the one you have. A soprano will sound different to a tenor, but that isn't a bad thing, just different. Have an experiment with your ukulele and see what it sounds like.
SLOW IT DOWN!!! I love what you are teaching, but no beginner can follow the movement that fast. Also, it is hard to tell with the bass slap if it is landing on the strings, behind the bridge, or above it, because the camera is dead on instead of at an angle.

Can i play these percussion with any other songs by changing chords?.

Hi Simon, in your "3 Easy percussive Drum Beats"
On the first mute strum do you come up with the strings muted or miss them going towards the finger clack?
To be honest you can do either, whatever works best for you.
Does anyone know how to spell Danny's surname nlame so I can look him up? Great video. 👍
Great tutorial really getting the hang of the first two, however just can't get my fingers to do the 3 x clicks. Hopefully just practice. Do you use your thumb as leverage?
Hey Ian, yeah I do, helps with the volume. Keep at it and you smash it. Thanks for watching 👍👍
@@ukulelesimon thumb behind the finger works wonders. Getting the hang of it now. 😎
thank you sir! - but 1 quest. : what's his name: "Dany Ucero"? (between James & Feng)
Yeah, look up @daniukeworld on Instagram.
How did you make it sound when you hit the chord?
😍😍
what kind of ukulele is ideal for percussive? i have a soprano and it doesnt seem to do that well(i could be doing something wrong but the bridge of mine looks a little different and i have no clue how im supposed to play a chord with the bass drum)
You can technically do it with any kind of uke but I find tenors work best as they are a bit bigger
@@ukulelesimon ok thank you!
what uke are you using iits amazing
It’s a Flight ukulele Mustang

This trick will work on any kind of ukelele?
I don't understand when I play a chord and press with my thumb before blocking the sound nothing comes out pls help me its driving me crazy
It's easier to make to clack sound with the thumb rather than the index finger for me. In case this helps somebody
Awesome, whatever works for you and sounds great. Keep at it 👍👍
❤
Perhaps you could apply them to a song next time. Now that would really top it off.
The bass beat part with a chord is very difficult, I can’t get the chord to actually ring out its soooo soft it sounds like an accident
If it’s making a noise then you’re on the right track. Keep at it and it will get louder, you’ve got this 👍👍
Hm. I think, thats for E-Ukeleles, right?
This would awesome if someone is playing billie jean
My hand become hot, now i don't need fires
Can you accomplish this with a Carbon Fiber ukelele?
Ooo I’m not sure, I would have to give it a go. I reckon it would work though
Yea my ukulele doesn't do that
It can do, give it some time 👍👍
this hurts especially the clap on top of the uke😭 but imma do it anyway cause it sounds cool :)
Yeah, you've got to be careful, the key is to relax your finger as much as possible, this should reduce any pain. Thanks so much for watching, make sure you check out the second percussive video I did if you liked this one.
