If you thought George V was late, Albert Victor died in 1892. He was Queen Mary’s first fiance and also heir to the throne! Despite Albert Victor’s death, Queen Mary would still be Queen consort. Wow.
The same thing happened to princess Maria of Denmark, younger sister of Queen Alexandra. She was betrothed to Tsarevich Nicholas Alexandrovich of Russia in 1864 but he died of meningitis a few months later in 1865. Tsar Alexander II & The Empress had grown fond of Dagmar and now wanted her to marry the new heir, Tsarevich Alexander, they married in 1866 and he ascended the throne in 1881 as Alexander III she became Empress Maria Feodorovna. So she too was destined to be Empress.
Looking at the opening footage I can't help thinking how proud Queen Mary would be of her granddaughter Elizabeth and her incredible 70 year reign.

Well, that was a clickbait title. It has absolutely nothing to do with the video.
