It might be a good idea to use a water sprayer to get the dirt off the coin rather than abraiding the coins with dirt, but I am probably wrong... Nice video. As a coin collector, I appreciate seeing these coins returning from their graves to live again!
You aren’t the first person to suggest that with the spray bottle. So no worries. I have my reasons, but thanks for the comment and I’m glad you liked the video. 🙏🏻
I metal detected our family 100+ year old homesite where a dozen aunts and uncles grew up, and their parents. But since I knew nobody back then had extra pocket change to "lose", I predicted I would find no coins. Sure enough, could not find a single coin of any type. Just junk metal bits, an old axe head, small ruined pocket knife, bottle caps, that's about it. A more experienced friend who metal detects swore he would find all kinds of coins here. Nope, not a one.
What are you swinging for a metal detector? 100+ years is a long time to lose stuff. Even at newer houses you’ll find basic pocket change. Hell, my house was built in 1914 and both my brother and I were able to find stuff. Even the biggest Penny pinchers lost change back then. Holes in pockets ect.
Very nice Hunt Congrats. Love the 2 Silver Barber Dimes and Half Reale. Beautiful Military Buckle and Victorian Pin. Very Nice Car and Ox Nob. Take Care
Well thank you very much for the kind words and looks like you watched the entire video or close to it, which is awsome! 🙏🏻 Yes, the silver is definitely my favorite to find, doesn’t matter what it is. 😄
We presently have about 4” of snow on the ground, which is about the most I’m willing to detect in because of obvious reasons (that’s 4”I’m losing in depth). The woods are the only place I’ve noticed doesn’t freeze completely solid, but again, if we have a foot a snow on the ground. No point. Praying for no more snow lol
Thanks. Glad you liked the video! What part of MA did you use to live in and were you into detecting when you lived down here or just get into it in NH? I try to get out as much as I can too, but in the winter it’s really dependent on how deep the snow is.
I used to live in Winthrop, now live in Salem NH. I was past treasurer of the Mass Treasure Hunting Association . I would hunt everywhere and still do. With the CTX 3030 I'm hitting all my old spots and still finding good stuff.@@newbietones
That’s awsome man. I usually hunt locally (within Worcester County), but willing to travel further out if it’s worth. Been up to North Hampton Beach in the winter a few times in the past too. I’ve had the NOX600 since 2020 and I love the machine. 👍
Awesome, a lot of nice old parks and hillsides in Worcester County. I've had too many machines to count. Right now it's the 3030 for land and the Excalibur 2 for everything water.@@newbietones
Always told myself if I were to get a 2nd machine it would be an Excalibur because of the water hunting it’s primarily used for. Still a fairly pricey machine though.
I’m quite aware. I called it a sash buckle at the time of discovery because I thought that’s what it looked like. However if you watched long enough to see my pic of it, it is indeed a Militia Belt Plate. I also posted a pic from a buckle book to confirm it. 👍

Wow! Awesome finds man. Congrats! Is that a 8 or 900 you're using?
600! 👍
hi pls dont rub your coins it makes it worse.
I do my best not too, but get impatient and want to see what it is and the date. I’m getting better at restraining myself though. 👍
Not a sash buckle my friend . Militia Buckle.
