I seen that clip of Walter yodeling & I've also seen several contestants yodel along with this game along with Heidi Klum during an episode of Celebrity Week.
3:52 Yeah, I thought that was wild about Fritz. For those that don't know, Dennis James shouted "There goes Fritz" when the climber fell off and Janice the model stormed off the stage, crying, never got back on stage for the remainder of the episode. Dennis didn't know about the model's late husband who had died from mountain climbing and the guy's first name was also Fritz. No idea how he came up with Fritz unless he read about something and didn't realize that Fritz and the model were married. They said he was very apologetic to the woman but still, of all names......
This may have happened during the first or earliest playings of the game. Both Bob and Dennis named their "yodel guy" Hans and Fritz respectively. Following the "There goes Fritz" incident, he remained unnamed for decades right through Drew Carey's tenure on the show.
One fact that could've made the list was that the "Yodely Guy" had a name on the 1994 nighttime version with Doug Davidson. The name given was "Hans Gudegast" which is the real name of Doug's co-star on Young and the Restless Eric Braeden who plays Victor Newman.
Speaking of yodeling, in very early playings, they used a snippet of the Silly Song from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves before using the tune we all know and love today
I remember the main part of the yodel song used during showcases in the 80s/90s whenever a trip to Switzerland was offered. I think that's why it sounds familiar. (Another comment here mentions this too).
I remember Duff Goldman appeared on TPIR with a Cliff Hangers cake complete with movable mountain climber during a playing of Cliff Hangers, Drew liked it so much that they used the cake alongside the game when the contestant guessed the price on the small prizes, moving the cake mountain climber the same steps as the real mountain climber.
@ScapinoMedia TV & Retail Nostalgia my favourite fun fact about CLIFF HANGERS is how they show the contestant's face in a photo box in the left-hand corner when the climber moves up the mountain.
Such a sensational and timeless game. One other fun fact, I believe during its first playing (maybe its first few playings) there were 4 small prizes to bid on and the mountain had 50 steps, but they changed it to 3 items and 25 steps which is a perfect balance I believe. One thing I wish the sound effects people could add, when the mountain climber goes over the edge, before the crashing sound effect, have him yell "MacGyyyyyyyvvvvvveeeeerrr!!!!!!!!!".
I knew that the first time that Cliffhangers was played that they had to guess the price of four items instead of three, but I didn't know that the mountain climber had to go up fifty steps
What TPIR ought to do is if Yodely Guy goes off the cliff, he should pop back up from where he landed from his fall and say, "The price is wrong, Drew!"
One fact about Cliffhangers is that two contestants got to play Cliffhangers for $250,000. What they did for the first playing is they started the mountain climber at one and every dollar missed the item they would lose $10,000. After the 3rd item wherever the mountain climber was at that's how much they would win. The second time they played Cliffhangers for $250,000, they had money on the mountain & every dollar they missed the items, they would lose $10,000 & they would show it on the mountain. Wherever the stopped after the third item that's how much they would win. Also on one episode of The Price is Right during U Decide Week, followers of The Price is Right on Twitter got to decide if the mountain climber got to dress up as Drew or as model Rachael Reynolds. They chose Rachael & during the playing of the game she was yodeling when the mountain climber went up the mountain. Needless to say the contestant lost.
This is my favorite all time price is right game. If others love it, I had no idea. That was one of those deals where I thought i was the only one because it seemed like everybody I know loves Plinko. I figured that was the majority opinion.
The problem with this game now is that it's way too easy. Usually the first product is between $20-25, second $30-35 and the last one $40-45 so unless you play it really really bad, you are going to win. I like when it gets close to the top and you have some suspense as to if he's going to go over the cliff or not.
I remember an episode of Cliffhangers when a very elderly woman guessed a price on children's clothes. It was some ridiculous price like $100. The yodeler fell off, and the woman snapped, "I don't shop for clothes," and stormed off stage. And Bob just looked at the camera, kind of shrugged, and stated, "Well! She doesn't shop for clothes..." This was when I was between 4-6 years old, playing hooky from school probably. 1984-1986. I remember my reaction was sad because that old biddy yelled at Bob Barker.
Once, a contestant priced a toy guitar like it was a Les Paul ... similar to #3, you could have just strapped the yodeler dude to a rocket like Wile E. Coyote after that bid.
True fact: While the Yodel Guy made his debut on Cliff Hangers in 1976, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band released the single "Come To Papa" from the "Night Moves" album.
Mark, I have a question. I oftentimes see people on The Price is Right who are called up and have birthdays on that particular day. Since the episodes are taped in advance, are they actually there on their birthday, or are they told it will be aired on their birthday?
What about when the mountain climber was officially given a name (I think it's Cliff)? And, I think there was at least one instance where a player was perfect in the game, and the mountain climber did not move a single step. EDIT: Just found out, it's been done 4 times -- here's one of them: th-cam.com/video/B70TufbVMec/w-d-xo.html
I don't know how many would agree with me on this, but I always say that Cliffhangers is the only Price is Right game that is more fun to lose than it is to win.
In the DOS and Commodore 64 versions of TPIR by GameTek, the climber gets headbutted up the mountain by a goat, and if you lose, you see his bloody, mangled corpse at the foot of the mountain. No, seriously.
Challenges for Cliffhangers: • Beat the game without a single step (no dollar miss) • Beat the game with [Hans] (the yodeling guy) reaching the very top (25-mark) without going over ¹ Harder challenge - [Hans] is at the very top (25-mark) with one prize remaining that must be exactly right ² Extra hard - [Hans] is at the very top with two prizes remaining that must be exactly right If they were possible, they would be an extra bonus prize for beating either challenge.
That second challenge has actually been met. Ironically, it was the episode where the machinery malfunctioned during the run, prompting Barker to go behind the machine at one point and say, "That's one stupid mountain climber!" The contestant was at step 24 on her last prize; she bid $61 and the mountain climber went over, but then Bob and everyone else was informed that the actual price was $62. The operator was trotted out from behind the machine and explained that the apparatus was old and needed some maintenance.
Janice the model was married to man named Fritz, Fritz disappeared while mountain climbing in Asia. Night-time host Dennis James was not aware of this and picked Fritz as a random name for the mountain climber character. When the mountain climber fell he shouted "There goes Fritz!"
Yeah, not a fan of Drew's "Yodely Guy" schtick, though not as stupid and annoying as his Vend-O-Price "Let's pretend you're a new employee ar CBS" routine..
@@petercolbeysgameshowmania7176 I have a guilty pleasure of calling him Hans, because that's what Doug Davidson called him on the syndicated version of The Price is Right in 1994. He named him after a character in The Young & The Restless. Also I love Drew's Ven-O-Price spiel
@@MyGuyJustinH I see. Well, if you like Drew’s Vend-O-Price spiel, I’m fine with that. I’m just not a fan of it myself, but I respect your opinion. Also, since our stories about Cliff Hangers are similar, I can see why you call the climber Hans. Drew called him Hans for a bit, too, I think.
Yodely guy crashes to his doom after the 25th step. The Cliff Hangers cue has been used when trips to Switzerland🇨🇭were offered for prizes.
That makes sense!
Cliffhangers had a contestant named Walter who accompanied the yodeling. In fact, several players have yodeled with this game.
That was hilarious, I remember watching that episode.
I seen that clip of Walter yodeling & I've also seen several contestants yodel along with this game along with Heidi Klum during an episode of Celebrity Week.
Rachael Reynolds did the yodeling once. In fact, the Mountain Climber was a cardboard version of her when that happened.
@@MrT8599 That was during U Decide Week.
@@MyGuyJustinHThe question was, “Who should Yodely Guy dress as-Drew or Rachael?” Rachael got more votes.

The name came out from the movie "Fritz The Cat" which needs no further discussion.
Omg that's messed up
This may have happened during the first or earliest playings of the game. Both Bob and Dennis named their "yodel guy" Hans and Fritz respectively. Following the "There goes Fritz" incident, he remained unnamed for decades right through Drew Carey's tenure on the show.
Actually, Fritz was killed by Soviet forces, when he was helping the CIA establish mountain bases along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border

I've seen that episode
I always thought of the $20, $30, $40 game plan when playing Cliffhangers
That's what my strategy is for playing this game
Same here. Yet most people DON'T know that rule in recent times...
For me, it's $25, $35, and $45. I always win.
Great video! I love me some Cliff Hangers. Can’t wait for Plinko! In the meantime, next up-Safe Crackers!
The yodeling music was originally the silly song from Walt Disney's Snow White and the seven dwarfs
Then it was changed to the yodeling cue we all know and love today-“On The Frances Mountains.”
Actually, the original yodeling music was from "The Yodeling Song" from Disney's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs".
I GOTTA LOVE CLIFFHANGERS! LOVING THOSE YODELS. It's a great game.
I agree, & to think the game has never had a refresh & IMO it doesn't need one

My parents actually had the record where they got the yodeling from & no, I don’t know what became of it.
1:56 I actually found this song at random & could not believe it when I found out the yodely theme came from an actual song.
I remember a guy bid like 800 dollars on a toy guitar thinking it was a real one
yep I remember that too
On one occasion, Bob Barker on an insane bid for a toy guitar told Yodley Guy to "Hurry up and fall!".
Contestant bid $2500 then $50 and finally $800. Actual retail price $23.
Even rod Roddy was stunned with a bid like that
