I honestly don’t know how Bob Barker was able to keep a straight face while dealing with so many excitable contestants over the course of 35 years hosting The Price is Right. Watching these vintage videos of him hosting TPIR has given me a newfound respect for him and how he handled things with grace and dignity.
I know someone who played in the game. They interview all the people before the start of the show to find the most compatible ones based on the answers and their level of enthusiasm.
@@stephen-dev, that makes perfect sense. The producers of The Price is Right certainly know what they're doing. I could also say the same about the good folks who run Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune.
Some decades took the ideas and really ran with them and all had their own watermark in the book of history. The 80's were definitely bold with quite a few.
@robertvirnig638 I drove an 84 Chevette during university. I had to turn the steering wheel 90 degrees before the wheels would begin to turn. I donated it to a medical charity, and I was excited when they towed it away!
That sure was a strange game. The models bringing out the dice tray wrong, and Beverly losing her earrings and not rolling the die over the line not once, but twice.
Modern cars still come with the "port" for them but, no, you don't see them offered by auto manufacturers any longer. I believe some aftermarket companies do sell lighters to be used with those ports, though.
This was the best Dice Game ever! Beverly was hilarious! Losing her earrings, those whacko dice rolls, her kooky mannerisms...and getting frisky with Bob! (Contestants aren't allowed. Only the prize models, right, Dian? 😉🤣)
The rear facing seat at the back of our station wagon was me and my brother's assigned seats. My 2 sisters and other brother got the middle seats. The 80s were great.
And sadly it didn't produce a win - doggone it! But I've also seen other instances where the contestants roll and it falls off the table to the point where Bob also gets mad, having to retrieve the die. But Beverly did redeem herself... winning $11,000 on the big wheel.
I used to stay with my grandmother a lot (free babysitting lol). She watched (so I watched) - The Price is Right, The Young and the Restless, Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, Dukes of Hazzard, Hee Haw.
@ Didn’t say she should turn it down but her excitement level for what could be one of the worst cars ever made was on another level but I think maybe they’re told to go nuts if they happen to get the chance to be in the game.
Originally aired on CBS: 3/2/1983; repeated airing on #TPIRBarker (Beverley's playing for the car during #DiceGame🎲, but Bob says at 2:30...) BB: That is the worst roll I've ever seen!
I seen an 82 Chevette for sale on FB Marketplace for $3500 with 40k miles. Seriously. 😂 I know the car is 40+ years old but gimme a break..$3500? Lmao.
This woman just makes me go...WOW... from the way she rolled the dice to complete lack of understanding what "you don't have to do anything else" meant.
You could just imagine Bob's discussions with his wife after a long day, complaining about all these idiots who come onto his show and have no idea what the hell is going on. "You should've seen this crazy person today! jumping around so much her earrings fell out. Then she couldn't even roll a dice over a line"
Too funny. It comes with automatic transmission but anybody who is familiar with these models can see that the gear shift showing is for a manual transmission. Probably a good thing she didnt win the car, from the looks of those dice rolls, she could not operate a manual transmission.
That was just the show car, to look pretty on the set. It wasn't the car she would have won, the whole prize thing is sort of fascinating itself with how it's done.

When cars were 4 digits. Now the board is 5.
This messed me up when I went to buy a car. I knew perfectly well that a car cost $6000.
Getting close to 6 digits now, and that's not even a luxury model for the rich.
Haha, I didn't even notice that. My brain didn't even register that the board only had 4 digits
High 5 too
That's why I've only bought used cars.
Not keen on setting myself up for years of payments.
This woman has never thrown a ball or a dog toy for her entire life.
That was a pretty spastic movement there.
No kidding... Monopoly.... yahtzee.... a frisbee.... I mean good grief.
I would have hated to be a teacher....
"You're killing me, Smalls!"
@ “You throw like a girl!”
The 80s was a crazy decade…the hair, the fashion, nose candy…wild times. And Bob handled it all like a champ 😂
Are we pretending that's not gonna be said about every decade?
Some decades took the ideas and really ran with them and all had their own watermark in the book of history. The 80's were definitely bold with quite a few.
I've never seen someone get so excited over a Chevette.
My first car was a Chevette, I was pretty excited even though I had to turn off the A/C to accelerate up to freeway speed.
@robertvirnig638 I drove an 84 Chevette during university. I had to turn the steering wheel 90 degrees before the wheels would begin to turn. I donated it to a medical charity, and I was excited when they towed it away!
Why in the heck can't I buy a two-seater hatchback in 2024?
I remember when mine smoked up my town every time I went to church and school.
a free car is a free car
Poor Bob. He was so patient with some of them. Lol
That sure was a strange game. The models bringing out the dice tray wrong, and Beverly losing her earrings and not rolling the die over the line not once, but twice.
Bob was probably starting to think if it was really truth or consequences lol
Thrice, actually.
And a strange woman
and her just casually pinching his butt.
OMG, the car comes with a cigarette lighter!
Something you definitely won't see anymore
Modern cars still come with the "port" for them but, no, you don't see them offered by auto manufacturers any longer. I believe some aftermarket companies do sell lighters to be used with those ports, though.
Exactly, they've become electric outlets. I'm sure many kids have some stories of getting burned on those glowing red rings
That was standard equipment back then. I remember when my father had to borrow my '99 Taurus, that cigarette lighter and ashtray got a workout.
@@silentbob3208my parents didn’t smoke, so my dad took it out of the car so we kids didn’t play with it and get burned
Bob Barker has things to teach us about maintaining patience.
😂😂😂
Bob should be thankful she didn’t win. She would have dislocated his elbow or shoulder!
Worse. If she won, she'd have been out there driving.
I love the car description. ‘It has bumpers, a cigarette lighter, and a battery, paint, and a roundish steering wheel.’
When game shows were so fun... Bob was such a sport.
This was the best Dice Game ever! Beverly was hilarious! Losing her earrings, those whacko dice rolls, her kooky mannerisms...and getting frisky with Bob! (Contestants aren't allowed. Only the prize models, right, Dian? 😉🤣)
cigarette lighter, tinted windows, AM/FM radio oh how far we have come.
california emissions. As if that what a selling point
Now they advertise 7 way tailgates. Who gives a hoot.
I'd rather be able to buy a new car for $6521.
The women in the audience were always checking out the prizes and the men in the audience were always checking out the merchandise on stage.
That car is awesome
Tough luck, dang that was the funniest stuff I've ever seen. She kept getting Bob all confused and baffled.
0:50 Did I just hear someone yell 420?
I would’ve 😂 But I’m Canadian 😆
Sounded like it to me.
Yep
I heard it too!! 😎
As an 80’s kid, the car’s back then were a......thing.
Meaning what?
lol.. yes they were... yes they were... prob the best example being the Yugo
@@afridgetoofar1818 The Chevette was about as basic as a car could be. I bought one for $300 and painted it pepto bismol pink.
The rear facing seat at the back of our station wagon was me and my brother's assigned seats. My 2 sisters and other brother got the middle seats.
The 80s were great.
Looking back, the 90s weren't much better.
1:46 Johnny says it's automatic but clearly it is not. I guess you don't get the red one either...
It is automatic. That lever just changes the drive mode. Just moves forward and back with all the way forward being Park.
Bob Barker was the best! What a consummate professional and gentleman
There's nervous. And there's STUPID..
This was my first car! What a beauty.
Kudos to the wardrobe department that day.
It reminds me of the contestant who played Super Ball who didn't know how to roll the ball down the track. haha
594 dollars for lamps. that's highway robbery even in 2025
Especially for lamps that horrifically ugly. I get the 80's were a different time, but still
My shoulder and elbow hurt watching this.
“You roll any way you want to” 😂
I wish new cars cost less hat much nowadays.
Even used, it's hard to find a good one that cheap today.
i got a used car for double that price over 10 years ago...
Just delightful
OMG SHe is just like SUE, Kristen Wig's anxious character on SNL ...lmao
"A collection of lamps ..."
Clap
Clap
Clap...
These days it's now "A collection RGB backlighting!"
I remember this episode!
She rolls the die like a claw machine that drops the toy as it's bringing it over.
And sadly it didn't produce a win - doggone it! But I've also seen other instances where the contestants roll and it falls off the table to the point where Bob also gets mad, having to retrieve the die.
But Beverly did redeem herself... winning $11,000 on the big wheel.
Was the local loony bin missing one person that day?
Looney Bin. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Cigarette lighter and California emissions." Oh, the irony!
She figured if she couldnt go home with the car maybe she could go home with Bob Barker.
I used to stay with my grandmother a lot (free babysitting lol). She watched (so I watched) - The Price is Right, The Young and the Restless, Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, Dukes of Hazzard, Hee Haw.
My mother had a red Chevette when I was 8 and 9 years old (in 1983 and 1984). Don't remember if it had 2 or 4 doors.
Growing up this was the funnest show! The second car price numbers always seem higher. Adam Sandler playing golf with Bob is the 2nd greatest
Only four digits lol. What a world!
In her defense, the table was a little high for an underhand toss. She could have done a bit more sideways but didn't think to do it.
Something tells me she never watched the show. 😂
I think she was dropped on her head as a baby !😮
From the second pricing game of the 3/2/83 episode of The Price is Right. Featuring Dice Game today.🎲🎲
That would be a sweet little car with a manual and v8!
2:27 “That Is the Worst Roll I've Ever Seen!”
The Dice Game was always the easiest game to win for a car
Wow she sure got excited about maybe winning a Chevy Chevette! Must’ve needed a car bad 🤔
I’m pretty sure from looking at her behaviour she didn’t know a Chevette from a Corvette 😂😂😂😂
If you won a new car 🚗 now, regardless of what kind it was, would you turn it down? I think not.
@ Didn’t say she should turn it down but her excitement level for what could be one of the worst cars ever made was on another level but I think maybe they’re told to go nuts if they happen to get the chance to be in the game.

(Beverley's playing for the car during #DiceGame🎲, but Bob says at 2:30...)
BB: That is the worst roll I've ever seen!
Would love to have that car today.
I hope the car was an automatic because there’s no way she’s shifting gears with that arm 😂
that car looked clean
Arguably the least desirable car a contestant could win on the Price Is Right!!
Not surprisingly it was one of the cheapest cars offered back then too.
The Mazda GLC (stood for "Great Little Car") was no prize you wanted back then, either.
I seen an 82 Chevette for sale on FB Marketplace for $3500 with 40k miles.
Seriously. 😂
I know the car is 40+ years old but gimme a break..$3500? Lmao.
@@ecto1996 * *saw*
Imagine the jitters and goofiness if she had won...
*Wow* _Some_ of the cars were real pieces of Junk.
tinted glass¿
it would be a pleasure, bob barkERRRR
Honey, get a grip!
3 lamps for 595 dollars? U.S. dollars, right? Jesus, when was this filmed? I guess not everything has gone up in price.
If that’s how much power she has throwing a foam dice block, how is she going to handle the wheel at the showcase showdown?
The Chevrolet Chevette (aka Pontiac 1000): The car that makes *losing* pricing games better than winning them…
Those cars never died , my family had 3 of them lol. my parents and 5 kids in the back lol the good old days
This woman just makes me go...WOW... from the way she rolled the dice to complete lack of understanding what "you don't have to do anything else" meant.
I bet u she never played baseball.
I love to see her bowling 🎳.
The announcer sounds like he probably shouldn't drive that Chevette any time soon.
The contestant lost before she even started playing. lol Those earrings were the next item up for bids. And what was the roll??
I wonder if it came with an eight track tape player?
She would be thrown out of the casino if she played craps like that. lol
Damn skippy.
They tell her to hit the back wall and she can't get it past the don't come space.
@russellgrimes3491 She'd never make it to the back wall.
She was tired from giving me a massage 💆♂️ the night 🌙 before & it included a happy 😊 conclusion 💆♂️. She's a good girl.
I think she did have a neurological issue with her arm. I broke mine a few years ago and have a similar problem.
That’s what I thought, but then why didn’t she use her other arm?
I remember watching this game a lot. They usually get you on the second number. She rolled horribly but played correctly.
I have never seen anyone throw like that. Like WTF
Some of the prizes on this show man....A SET OF DOILIES!!
The Chevy Shovette
He tapped that
i think we got a new pitcher for the boston redsox here.....she IS put together, ill say that for her but apparently never seen a price is right
that was a manual transmission on the stage....
The car included a cigarette lighter. That must have bumped up the price!
Don't have her play vollyball, nor pickelball.
Wow, the car comes with a cigarette lighter!
That same car would be the same price 😂right now 2025
Needs to be an SNL skit. Kristen Wiig would be a good choice playing the woman contestant.
Prices have completely flipped today. You could get a set of lamps like that for $20 or $30 and you won't find a Chevrolet vehicle new under $20,000.
She won a car by just trowing 4 dices. She could not believe herself
Haha what's johnny Olson a dog Bob says go fetch 😂
Annoying! When she couldn't roll the dice properly, I wanted her to lose.
Nah. She was cute and fun --just very excited. Wished she had won.
Fixed game. Never go with the odds, as you can see with the last number being 1.
You’re probably right. The number 1 is the last number you’d probably see at the end of the retail price of a car.
Normally, it’s 5, or 9
You could just imagine Bob's discussions with his wife after a long day, complaining about all these idiots who come onto his show and have no idea what the hell is going on. "You should've seen this crazy person today! jumping around so much her earrings fell out. Then she couldn't even roll a dice over a line"
classy bob
4:42 did Bob Barker get assaulted on TV?
that car didnt have tinted windows or an automatic transmission
am/fm radio on a trash car? YES!!! SO EXCITED :)
It was the 80's and the small things still make people happy even to this day. 😆
Classic bob

Listen, i get that she can't roll that dice, but where is Fay buying her 800 dollar lamps from in the 80s?
That was not an automatic transmission
usually bob not as forgiving with those that never saw the game
4:43 Bruh
i wanted her....
TO WIN!
yes bob we know what you wanted.
Hilarious
