    Thank you! This video helped me understand what I was getting in to when replacing the lower control arms on my 09 Flex. The front bushing bolt was a PITA, but the car drives so much better now. For other viewers, I had vibration over 70 MPH, clunking over bumps, and clunking when letting off the brake. The rear bushings weren’t gone, but bad enough. ~$80 each on amazon, and an afternoon of work. Alignment soon. Thanks for listing the tools needed!

      Same as you, front bolt was a bitch.. i bought an impact gun and impact socket 18mm with extension to get it done. Broke 2, 18mm sockets fighting it.

      Just did mine today and yes that front bushing is hell, I had to use a big pair of vice grips at the top then had to move it to the bottom to hold the thread so it won’t spin, going on that was the easiest part go figure lol.

    Great job! Thank you for putting this video together! I have a 2010 Flex and just ordered the part from Advance Auto. Your video was a huge help and especially appreciate the heads-up on which metric wrenches I will need. I am a backyard mechanic too and don't have a full complement of tools yet. Thanks again!

    Looks like my bushings. Thanks for taking the fear out of this job. Barring rusty bolts seems pretty straightforward. Great video.

    Thanks for the video!! The bushings were junk on my 08 Lincoln MKS which had the exact same setup as the Flex and I used the same tools! Just a backyard mechanic too

    Good going ... Good to see guys do it themselves instead of dishing out the bucks. Just a couple of things to mention, If you want to use the same hardware apply some BLUE LOCTITE when reinstalling the nuts most of the ones they use are lock nuts so when you take them off they no longer lock and you don't want to lose one on the road. Also before you tighten all those nuts you need to set the cat down with all the weight on the bushings so it sets them at ride height or the up and down movement from the drive will eventually twist them apart again. adding a bit of dish soap before you do it helps a bit too. Good luck with your next job and thanks for keeping it real.

    Thanks for the vid. Just did both on my 2010 AWD Limited. For anyone else with questions, both sides took about 3 hours with hand tools on my lovely freezing 25 degree michigan driveway. A warm day or garage and it would go much faster. the 10mm part on top of the ball joint on mine was rusted round so I had to rig a couple vice grips in various positions to get the big nut off, but it all worked out.

      @@bostondannyd and I'm about to do it again and right back to this video! Unfortunately the Detroit Axle parts I bought had both rear bushings fail after less than a year, but at least they have a 10 year warranty.

    Could this part cause heavy vibrating when breaking at a moderate speeds, also tire wear issues, I believe this part is my culpritm thanks.

    • @bostondannyd
      @bostondannyd  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Jones i would look at the bushing. The wear is usually very easy to see.

    • @dointime1
      @dointime1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vibrating at moderate speeds is usually a brake rotor issue. Yes, lower control arms will cause tire wear issues. That's why I'm replacing mine.

    Thanks for the vid. I have to do this on my Explorer, very similar setup. Just wanted to ask, what made you replace them? Did you have loud clunking/thumping when going over bumps and uneven road while moving slow or at moderate speed?

    • @bostondannyd
      @bostondannyd  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Milan Stojic yeah lots of banging and I had a lot of motor shift as well. I went through 2 driver side motor mounts. I don't know if it was connected to the problem. I use AutoAnything for all my Parts. Call them, you get up English-speaking American and they will give you a discount as well.

    Hi, Bostondannyd. Thanks for the video. So I started replacing the lower control arms on my 13 mkt, which has the same suspension parts as your flex. I am having an issue with the front bushing. Once I’ve put the back bushing and the lower joint just hand tightened. I can’t get the front bushing lined up with the sub frame mount. Any ideas on how I fix this?

    • @jamesm.3848
      @jamesm.3848 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use a jack to raise the hub assembly up to get it lined up right

    • @shoner70

      Slick McVick, thanks for the reply. I actually tapped the center of the rotor with a 5 pound sledgehammer and it slid right. After that it was a breeze doing both sides.

    Dear all, my ford dealer told me that i cant get the bushing replaced, i will have to get the entire assembly replaced as in fordflex 2009 bushing doesnt come separately. the entire assembly is quite expensive. any clues???

      Advance auto parts has them separate but autozone has the whole control arm for 94.99 with the bushing and new ball joint their duralast brand I will be installing one Friday on an 08 Taurus X which has the same one.
