    I love that place.The schwarzbier that they import in kegs is sooooo good. Went there as part of a bachelors party. I remember we got the King's Platter but enough for like 10 people and potato pancakes for the vegetarians among us. My memory is hazy on this because we were going though the boots like crazy, lol!

    Hello from Hamburg, Germany. This is going to be a long one, ha ha. First off, You guys are so nice and kind. It was amazing to see that you found only positive phrases and really enjoyed your visit at the Hollerbach's restaurant. That's the most important point. - I wish that people would stop calling restaurants like this "German" because all I saw is pseudo-Bavarian decoration. Bavaria is just 1 out of 16 federal states. You won't find most of what you see in this clip in any of the 15 other German states. Especially my Northern identity, culture, and cuisine gets regularly neglected which drives me so mad. Talking about "German cuisine" I must remark that Germany has the most Michelin star restaurants (just after our neighbor France) that offer expensive German high cuisine like venison, game, boar, and others. You never ever see that in any of these videos about "typical German food" but only regional dishes from Southern Germany. It sucks so much. Where are our stews, fish dishes, soups, seasonal dishes like kale? The funniest thing is that the Hollerbach family is from Kyllburg, a town in the state of Rhineland Palatinate, near the border to Luxemburg/Belgium. They have nothing at all to do with how they decorated their restaurant in more or less Bavarian style, serving only silly stereotypes. They come from a distinct wine region (Germany is Europe's 4th largest producer of wine, not only Riesling btw) with a hearty cuisine of their own but they offer nothing from where they came from. How strange is that. Then, I was irritated by the menu. There are a number of dishes that are not German at all. I had to look up what a "Reuben" is; a warm sandwich from the Jewish community in New York. It's unknown in Germany; why do they sell it in their "German" restaurant? Dijon mustard is French; Germany has many own varieties of mustard. Swiss cheese is obviously Swiss, not German. We produce numerous kinds of cheese, too. Cajun sausages come from Louisiana, I guess? What is Bierkuchen, I wonder? It must be their invention. They're not offering any "beer sauce" at least, do they? This is what I got in all of the ~10 "German" restaurants I visited so far in the US and Canada. I even have a short clip on how to eat a pretzel in Germany about it - namely without a dip, beer sauce, or sweet mustard that is reserved for white sausages only. And the last one: "German chocolate cake" has nothing to do with Germany (although we have chocolate cakes here, too). The American who invented it was called Samuel German, a guy with British ancestry. The prices Hollerbach's ask for are somewhat strange to me. I even looked up their website. For the Sauerbraten, they charge $ 20.79 but for the Giant Bavarian pretzel appetizer (You never arrange it like they do it on a plate ...), they want $ 24.89, Jesus Christ. Telling from the picture in the menu, their Sauerbraten looks good to me, and in 2024, something around $ 30.00 would be justified if you get more red cabbage and Spätzle if you want. A reasonable price for the Riesen-Brezel with a little something would be like $ 5.00. That single Bratwurst with a small cup of mustard looked so sad! You would never ever get it like that at any restaurant in Germany. - Their supermarket sells a lot of unauthentic crap along with well-known authentic German products. Way more expensive than in Germany but that's ok because they have to import all the articles. Their bakery actually was the section that looked the best to me. I recognized many typical German pastries and cakes (some Americanized items, but this is due to local demand, I understand). They looked good indeed and the prices seemed reasonable. - So, to sum it up: No, Hollerbach's isn't like "vacation in Europe" and it's certainly not authentic "German" but as I said: As long as you and others enjoy their stay there, I'm happy for you and I'm fine with it. This video was a lot of fun to watch for me, all in all. Thank you and Grüße aus Deutschland.

    • @thealtemlife
      @thealtemlife  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hello! Thanks for all the information! I think the big thing over here is a lot of these types of restaurants are very Americanized. Every type of restaurant that comes from another country will more than likely have an American twist to it. It does make sense because a lot of Americans are used to certain styles of food and it just kind of caught on. It would be really cool to see some of those items you mentioned on some menus around here though, so we can get the full experience of trying some authentic things. Prices over here keep going up so it’s hard to find a cheap option. We did enjoy the experience and have been back since but I definitely understand where you are coming from as well. Thanks for watching the video!

      They get it in Cincinnati too., but I think that’s a pioneer thing, German immigrants made it on farms because they had a little meat. Leftover scrap some meat and they blended it in with oatmeal and then Texas. They blended it in with cornmeal and called it scraple.
