  • The 2023 Chery Tiggo 8 pro PHEV could be the ultimate solution to rising fuel prices here in the Philippines. It's like a hybrid in the sense that it's powered by both a petrol engine and an electric motor, but unlike hybrids, PHEVs allow you to charge the battery from an external source which means that you're not dependent on the engine for charging. With a range of 70-90km, you could drive this indefinitely in the city without using fuel as long as you charge it at home
    In this video, We'll go in-depth into the PHEV driving experience.
    We'll drive it in pure EV mode for a couple of days to see how practicable it is as a pure electric vehicle. We'll also drive it in Hybrid mode for a couple of days, to see how fuel efficient it can be if you couldn't charge it for a couple of days. And lastly, we'll put all of its 305 horses to the test by driving it in a spirited but responsible manner.
    BTW do you know that you can actually unli-charge your EV at Major SM malls for free. Which means indefinite free transportation in the city, at least until SM decides to charge a fee

    Hello, we are a very large group of buyers of the Tiggo 8 Hybrid in pre-launch and we still haven't received the vehicle in store for appreciation here in Brazil A few minutes after you posted the video on you tube we found you and eagerly distributed it to everyone here in Brazil. We've been researching videos all over the world for weeks and finally someone posted something consistent and technical, thank you. The salespeople of the Chery store chain do not have almost accurate information about the car because neither the manufacturer and importer company here in Brazil provides informational support. if you can post more effective videos about the consumption autonomy tests in different modes, we would be very grateful Everyone here was amazed by your video because it was different from the hundreds already posted on you tube

    The price of the BYD Tang ,mentioned in the beginning was 3.29M for the Tang1-PHEV (2019-2021) , now the Tang2-PHEV cost 3.69M and the Tang2.1-EV cost 3.99M Peso. So the Chery Tiggo8-PHEV (2.45M) is a bargain compared to the BYD Tang2-PHEV (3.7M) both 7-seaters with 19 KWh batteries.

    This Tiggo 8 hybrid looks good.. It makes Chery seem like a veteran in making hybrids.. While a hybrid is great when everything is working, there is also this potential of getting the worst of both worlds if both powertrain breaks down.. However we cant deny that Chery is offering a great option for pinoys in the segment..

    What’s the expected range in hybrid mode? At some point in the video the fuel tank is halfway full and the range is 220km, so with full fuel tank and battery should I get only 90+440km of range?

    • @jaywalkur
      @jaywalkur  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The range can vary greatly depending on your driving habits and traffic conditions. BTW the 70-90km range would apply if you're driving in pure EV mode. If you're driving in hybrid mode, you'll be charging the battery every time the engine is running even at idle so the battery charge would drain a lot slower and could even go up, depending on your settings. I'm not sure if just adding the 2 numbers would give you a good range estimate
      I'm not exactly sure how efficient the self-charging system is but on the first day of the lendout, I just drove it around to charge the battery. It went from around 16% to 69% and I consumed around 15% of a full tank.

  • @eudega
    @eudega ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you checked the fuel consumption in hybrid mode on the highway? I think it uses mostly the engine and so it would get a high fuel consumption. I hope that’s not the case.

    • @jaywalkur
      @jaywalkur  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      On the highway, it can vary greatly depending on your settings and driving habits. In hybrid mode, the engine can actually remain turned off on the highway depending on your power requirements. When you're going at a more or less constant speed, it just turns off. The best number that I got was 33kpl

    For someone like me who has two cars and changes units every 5 years, Tiggo 8 Phev is not possible for me... WHY?
    It costs me more when I get a PHEV.
    Let's say I use 1,000kms on my cars every month.
    And P70 per liter of gas is equivalent to 8kms that my car ran.
    1,000 kms in one month / 8 kms per liter = 125 kms
    125 kms x P70 per liter of gas = P8,750 my monthly gas expenses.
    P8,750 x 12 months = P105,000 in one year gas expenses
    Then multiple in 5 years = P525,000 in 5 years gas expenses.
    Tiggo 8 Pro 1.6 = P1.7M
    Tiggo 8 Pro Phev = P2.5M
    Difference is P800K
    800k - 525k
    = P275,000 Phev is more expensive.
    THEN LET'S COMPUTE THE COST OF ELECTRICITY USING THE PHEV IN FULL EV
    1,000 kms in one month using full EV (no gas)
    1,000kms in one month / 90kms full charge = 11.11
    11.11 x P176 charge of electricity in full charge = P1,955
    P1,955 x 12 months = P23,466 x 5 years = P117,333 cost of electricity in 5 years
    Now let's add the figures
    800k - 525k
    = P275,000 Phev is more expensive.
    +++
    = P117,333 cost of electricity in 5 years
    Total of = P392,333
    I WILL BUY THE TIGGO 8 PRO 1.6 rather I buy the Phev.
    Phev is good if you will use this car for 10 years and above because you save fuel.
    But like me that change the unit every 5 years, it is not recommended.

    assume ownership of 10 years. Assume mileage of 40,000 for that 10 years. An ICE will fuel consumption of 8km/liter. Assume 70 pesos per liter. Thats 350,000 pesos of fuel. is the price of an ICE vehicle plus 350k in fuel costs more expensive than the price of these hybrids?

  • @davidc.5197
    @davidc.5197 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Philippines doesn't have the infrastructure to support EV's or PHEV'S. I do own a PHEV in the USA. One problem in the Philippines especially in Manila is if you have the aircon on even if you are stuck in traffic the EV range will be reduced. If you travel a lot the plug will probably be useless. This would be fine if their wasn't such a high premium charged for the plugin hybrid. It's going to have to be an ideal situation for it to make sense. Don't forget the cost of electricity to charge your vehicle from home. Having said that I would not drive anything without a plug in the USA. I live in San Diego California where the weather is almost always perfect with no need for aircon and I use free public chargers. The last time I put gas in my car was over 2 months ago and I have 2/3rds of a 16 gallon fuel tank still left. For now I'll enjoy my Ranger Raptor in the Philippines.

    • @jaywalkur
      @jaywalkur  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the range of the phev. I always had the aircon on and i got a minimum of 70+km of range in heavy traffic which i think is good enough for city commuting. Even if you drove it outside the city where you couldn't charge, the battery isnt exactly dead weight because it will help extend your range and improve your fuel economy.
      I love the ranger raptor btw. Excellent choice on that one

    • @davidc.5197
      @davidc.5197 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaywalkur You're right. It operates as a normal hybrid car even when not charged. If you are a typical person that just drives locally and plugs in at home every night it's great. Honestly the biggest issue is the premium purchase close to 14k USD? is the problem. I think the premium here is about 4k. We have over 100,000 charging stations here in the USA with double that soon...at work the grocery store the hotel. Electric cars are going to be the majority of cars on the road in the not too distant future. I think the big car companies should kick in and subsidize the Philippines in order to build the chargers.

      I got 23kpl in the city in automatic hybrid mode. It depends on your settings, your driving habits and whether you top the battery level off from time to time.
      You can set it so that the vehicle will prioritize charging over fuel economy and that's why some get really low numbers. If you prioritize charging over fuel economy, the vehicle will idle at a higher RPM to charge the battery faster. It also won't go into EV mode as often
