00:00 "He's just winging it." Caller Tony dismisses the idea that Trump has some sort of grand scheme.
03:48 "He gives people someone to hate." Caller Lewis believes that so long as Trump gives his voters an enemy, they will continue to side with him.

12:41 "He's put on a pedestal. He's seen as a God." Caller Phillip blames a lack of critical thinking for Trump's popularity.
14:29 "He was invincible." Paige in High Wycombe doesn't believe the hype around Trump's polling numbers.

The damage that Trump and Johnson have done to politics and peoples lives is irreparable.

How so? Please advise. I need the laughs your lame efforts will create....😂😂😂😂
Blimey, guess we had better just learn to live with it and let it go then
Everything is repairable but at what cost? The last time the world turned angry like this it took a world war to put the worst urges of mankind back in the box.
@@imagereader_9I don't understand what you mean. You're making no sense.
The problem is as an American, Trump was able to tap into anger , ignorance, racisum, and hatred of others at a level I've never seen before
@rell127 - You have no clue what your talking about. First of its been the Democrat Left that promoted the Summer Riots that caused the Death of over 25 people. Second each person is responsible for their own actions so if someone like you who suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome breaks a Law then its your fault & not the fake news media who you trust.
I think it was a perfect storm of events. Hatred of Hillary + Inability of the Democratic party to bring about real substantial lasting improvements for the majority + Trump's fake populism and promising to bring back jobs and drain the swamp + Tapping into racism and xenophobia
He turned lying into a campaign strategy. His goons think it's all a show, a big joke. Pathetic and frightening.
Call them fearmongers. People like Trump invoke fear in ignorance by using hate as a weapon.
Being scared is easy. That’s why. His followers are typically uneducated and uninformed. But they trust anyone that tells them to act on their feelings.
As an American, it’s interesting to hear what other countries think of these news stories and crimes.
Well I’m a kiwi who had 7 years in the usa ..before trump took over, I could write you an essay on why the USA has major problems ..in my country the govt help people who struggle to earn a living when it comes to health but in the USA .. your country has been conditioned not to help people .. which your media used words like communism or a socialist.. if you want bring free medical care it’s crazy
@@pistolpetenaki I do not disagree with you at all. It’s very frustrating, to put it lightly, for a lot of us here. There are times where I don’t understand why we do what we do, but being on the earth for 36 years in the US has taught me that we typically put money over people. That’s partly why we’ve grown to such an economic power, but there are obviously social issues as well. IMO, we seem to have this, although it does seem to be changing, extreme version of rugged individualism. Everyone is on their own.
There are obviously others but imo those seem to be the most pervasive ones.
My overriding response is astonishment that Trump was a) never convicted before 2016 and b) ever elected.
Pretty accurate too
That’s what this American comes here for!!!!! I adore this man!!!!!
Many keep mentioning “the American people” putting trump on a pedestal, but just the fact that he lost the election proves that you should be saying “some of the American people”. Most of us are horrified by him.
by "some of the American people" you mean "almost half of them," knowing full well (or supposed to know) how badly the previous 4 years had been. I weep for the other half (not "most of them") being mentioned within the same breath.
And in the so-called win Trump had the first time he did not win the Popular Vote. He won the electoral vote, something that should have been done away with decades ago. In fact the last 2 republican presidents did not win the popular vote.
@@jeroenneve5807 half the Republican voters, not half the country.
@@FSMPatti I looked it up on Google. (this not an opinion, it's counting):
Biden won 81,283,098 votes, or 51.3 percent of the votes cast. Trump won 74,222,958 votes, or 46.8 percent of the votes cast.
So, almost half of the votes went to Trump. As I said, my heart weeps.
@@FSMPatti Maybe, just maybe, have him face someone who's not completely senile and he'll lose. Just an idea.
What happened was he went after Obama while he was president. And the people who hated a black man being president loved what he was doing and practically begged him to run. He said everything they wanted to say. That's why he has the support of his people. He's just doing and saying what they want him to do and say. The sad part is, it's all bad.
Are you gonna take away the black card from black people supporting him too ?
Absolutely this. Trump doesn’t believe half the things he says and he could care less about how Mandy trans people or immigrants there are in the USA. He only says this stuff because it’s given him power, attention and money. He would happily sacrifice any number of those maga supporters to save his own back.

As another American I concur @kennethvenezia4400 ✌🏽🇺🇸💯
Ironic how people so heavily armed, are also so easily scared.
I believe that most of it comes back to not admitting they were wrong and not wanting the other side to have been right. When you said if photos came out of him doing something heinous it wouldn’t matter to them you were right. Whenever something comes out they first try to claim it didn’t happen and then usually he admits to it so then it is “well he didn’t mean it that way, you’re taking him out of context” . If neither of those work then it is fake. Those photos were photoshopped. Sometimes the order is different but their playbook is the same
Trump has also normalized his despicable behavior definitely with the republican party and unfortunately the rest of us have become kinda numb to it.
I tend to agree… the American penchant for always being right; the best; the greatest; the biggest…
Every country has a % of nutters but I’ve always been mystified as to why the quotient was so high in the US!
And unfortunately (fortunately?), Drumph pulled the covers off and exposed it all, to the world.
Maybe in this day and age of communications (internet/social media), Americans will begin to realise that they aren’t exceptional?; that their Constitution is hole-riddled!; that they can learn so much from other countries.
I feel sorry for the decent Americans who have to carry Drumphs legacy and the joke he has made of the US!
A view from the South Pacific
Former owner of The Daily Mail in the UK was asked the secret of its success. He said "give them something to hate".
He’s never been held accountable and thinks he can do whatever he wants. Now, he’s going to pay. Finally.
With all the indictments and even with his mugshot, Donald still hasn't spent a single second in prison, so he's still getting away with it.
All he's had to do is pay fines, and keep committing crimes.
It's at the point that I won't believe, for a single moment, that Donald will be held accountable for any of the crimes he brags about daily, until I actually see him in prison.
We hope.
Please don't go by polls. Polls in the U.S. are not representative of younger voters views.
that is likely because younger voters rarely ever vote

If anyone overseas is wondering, its not super big news even here across the pond. But part of the current investigation showed that the US military (or at least the higher ups and top brass) realized early on during January 6th that this was an attempted coup. And got together to sign a legal declaration that stated they would up hold their oath to the constitution, instead of enforcing the will of a would be tyrant. Its does give me some comfort to know that our military saw it, and him for what it was.
The Military should have no place in the democratic process in any country ( aside from their individual votes ). The fact they signed a declaration is in itself a disgrace. Not that they did, just that they had to
I think I get your point, but at least the declaration was based on their oath to the Constitution. But, yeah, their oath to the Constitution should have been all that qas required.@@Gabryal77
I agree with everything you stated, except that this is kind of big news over here. I mean, sure, the far right media is trying to play it down, but it's actually big news to them as well; they're just trying to say the news is that the DOJ has been weaponized against Republicans (which is absurd. No one is above the law, and when Democrats or Republicans break the law, they should be held accountable no matter how powerful they were).
@@Gabryal77 Having to watch our military's top brass put out a televised statement about how they would honor their duty/oath and follow the US Constitution, not one man, was jarring. It was the result of reading/hearing nonstop MAGA fantasy chatter about how the military will keep their Commander in Chief (Trump at that time) in office no matter what, which was utter nonsense.
The US military has never had to do this before and hopefully never will need to again.

The reason he knew he could get away with it? It's because he always has got away with it. Tribalism, whatever you call it - there's a huge problem in this world where people can't just step back and go, you know what, maybe I AM wrong...?
James does have a habit of chipping in with his own comments at the wrong time and too often it's super annoying.
There are a large portion of citizens who either cannot vote because of being convicted of crimes in their past or will not vote because they have either been threatened by violence when they tried or don’t believe it will matter if they do vote or in the case in many r party led states , their votes don’t get counted for the elections and until every vote matters, the outcome of any election isn’t really a true referendum on how the citizens think is really represented!!
As an American who was raised by a man 2nd generation Irish. He fought in Korea as well as Vietnam. He is buried in Arlington with a purple heart and a bronze star. I just wanted to speak for myself as being raised as a true patriot. This is not what America was meant for. I have never felt more shame for my country until recent. My father was a fierce Democrat. I thank him for educating me as well as glad he is gone not see all of this absolute desecration of American democracy.
Bless your logic. It’s a crying shame what’s happening to your country.
One criticism of James I have is he thinks the more you earn the more intelligent you have to be, which is obviously nonsense
I think you are wrong or have stated what you believe wrongly
Are you familiar with the Kardashians??
Adjusted for inflation, Trump actually has LOST money compared to what his dad gave him.
Not even "he has made money" is true about the dude...
@@rutlegs exactly!
That hasn't been the case since at least the 1950s, when we started listening to dumbed down versions of past music and watching T.V sitcoms.
Nice thoughtful discussion but, the essence of Trumps' sustained popularity was stated perfectly at 2:37 "...Give them the lies that they want to hear, and an enemy they want to hate and you can do almost anything."

Power is a mere trinket. Any con man can have power. The real deal is who controls the power. Justice has it's thumb on the scales and the thumb will eventually be on Trumps wrong side.
As an American Its embarrassing how people half way around the world see Trumps BS as clear as day and millions of people here are totally blind to it.
Aussie here. I totally understand. I don't hate Trump, I find him entertaining. He's not my prime minister. If he was? Yeah, no doubt I would.

Thank you for the REFRESHING SANITY.
Finally a suit that matches his skin tone
Very insightful callers! I'm originally American (but living in Europe since 1996) and learned something from their analyses. I fully agree with them.
I see a huge change since I left the U.S. and I blame a lot of it on Fox News and social media. Right-wing media didn't exist when I lived there and the society was much more cohesive.
Really, well what about the rise of the far left and the now uncontrollable crime in blue led cities, please by all means explain that for us.
@@fallout2260 "What about, what about, what about" - phenomenal GOP parroting 👏
@@fallout2260you are comparing apples to oranges. “Blue cities” are largely the most densely populated metropolises in the whole country. While the Bible Belt is mostly rural & southern cities are far smaller.
Higher population centres always have elevated crime rates. Cost of living is another major driver of crime & the major cities on both coasts are the most stiflingly expensive regions to live in.
You’re welcome 😉
@@TBakerXD so you can't answer the question then,Yeap says it all right there.
@@fallout2260 I had already answered the question. Just because you chose not to read it because it doesn’t align with your way of thinking, doesn’t mean you didn’t get an answer.
Behind it all, Trump is constantly amazed that he has that hold. Although, he tried to move them to action when he was indicted. Only a handful came. The GOP members are in the world of their own. The world is waiting and asking when would this nightmare ends. I miss the Obama days.
Nathen from Denver Colorado here and I have to say I agree with the first caller that he really didn’t have an actual plan I don’t think he’s capable of planning I think he’s been winging it his entire life I don’t think that being president changed that at all
No matter how you try and rationalize his behaviour, it must be condemned. This is not the new normal and shouldn't.
I’m from the US and I love your coverage of the Trump criminal organization ❤. Your caller is right. He just keeps pushing the boundaries. Hopefully the next push goes over the edge. This Georgia judge and prosecutor aren’t playing.
From there also but unlike you I'm not a hypocrite, would be nice if you lefty's would call out all corruption
@@fallout2260Open your eyes. Lefties don't like Biden or Starmer and spend a lot of time calling their own side out, to the point it's all they ever seen to do sometimes.

You are wrong. You CAN be as "thick as mince" and still make millions of pounds. In fact it may actually be an asset to making money,
greedy and uncaring is main thing
True-it's luck and ruthlessness that count.
There seems to be a condition in which you can be thick as mince in some ways but constantly calculating...... maybe that's a compensation thing. or a compulsion. However, just think of the favour he has done for future Psychology textbook authors ! Where oh where will they get their illustrative examples from......?...
This is really eye opening for me as an American. I never thought they called things like Sandy hook a false flag due to guilt. You make a lot of excellent points.
I am from US and being here, I still can't understand what is it with Trump that people love about him. Fox and Republican doesn't help either
Usually I agree with James and think he’s pretty smart but this is one where I don’t get how he doesn’t understand it. It’s so obvious that trump knew from back then that he could do whatever he wanted because he’s done it his entire life. All rich people think that way. His entire presidency and what he did behind the scenes that we still don’t know about and all these indictments are just the tip of the iceberg on him scarily enough. He had years and years of sketchy dealings well before he became president that we don’t know about and that’s by design by him.
By no means am I a Trump supporter but do you think it's only Trump who has sketchy dealings?
@@Ironside-fz9vd No i literally said in my comment that all rich people think this way. Idk how that's what you got from my comment.
HIS KIDS too !@@Ironside-fz9vd
Mate , we all know trumps past .
I agree with both, dRUMP was his father’s son. But, I also believe those who voted and still support him, are like him, that’s why they follow him.
I dont think he knew he could take it this far from the beginning, for him to know that he must really be an actual 'stable genius'/ mastermind, which he definitely is not.
I think it happened gradually. it began with the primary debates, at first not many took him seriously, but when the cheers became louder and louder (I believe also to his own surprise) as he lied and insulted his way through the debates, something he revelled in, being an arrogant, mean, entitled rich kid, bullying was something he was well versed and excelled in.
and then came the rallies, which took his ego to a whole different level, thats why he kept having them long after he was elected, his narcissistic personality craves the cheers and idolation.
As time went on, he realized that his supporters would continue to fanatically support him, and all he had to do was tell them what they wanted to hear.
He was also emboldened by the fact that many of the GOP politicians were afraid of the grip he had on the base, plus they were also unwilling to criticize him in public out of party loyalty.
He realized that he didn't actually need to fulfil the promises made. Just blame the Democrats, the so-called 'deepstate', and 'RINOs' for sabotaging the implementation and achievement of the MAGA agenda.
All this being said, Im baffled and disgusted that after everything he has done practically in plain site. Especially undermining the democracy of the most powerful country in the world, a country that prides itself as the bastion of the democratic system, he still maintains the support he has today and could actually be voted into office again. Totally bizarre.
It's when they call his stupidity "4d chess" I have to wonder what planet Trump fans are on.
Edit.. Sorry. I've already been told the anwer.. it's the same planet we are but it's flat apparently.
I agree. It is pretty clear that he entered the race, under the cover of getting back at Obama, but really as a money spinning ruse - to build a stunning contacts base on which to launch other ventures, including a media outlet.
Pretty sure that he had no plan to be president and was able to function precisely because there was a civil service which held the memory of administration and organisation. I think that he was entranced by what he could get away with - remember the hurricane map which he altered with black felt tip so it fitted in with one of his lies?
It is so unfortunate that there are people, like Trump, who make our societies more regulated as they believe that unless it is formally deemed illegal, well, it must be fair play to do it.
His behaviour leads to micromanaged communities, overburdened with regulations and laws which have to be set out in fine detail so that the Trumps of this world are clear of their boundaries.
