I honestly believe the 86 Celtics are the best TEAM of all time. They played the game the way it was supposed to be played. The most unselfish team I’ve ever seen…
I saw the Celtics play Golden State at Boston Garden for my birthday in 1987. Bill Walton’s nose was broken for the 12th time! My mother took me down beside the court during halftime and the players were warming up. Parrish walked over and sat down on the bench right in front of me. My 13 year old brain couldn’t comprehend how huge he was in person.
Just one correction... The 1972-'73 Celtics had the better record. They went 68-14. But this '86 team was better. I saw them play twice that year and it was like watching a choreographed dance team on court. Everyone knew their roles, and the team chemistry was something I've never witnessed before, after, or since. Looking forward to part two bro!
The 1973 Celtics had the best record in history 68-14, but did not win championship because Havlicek dislocated his shoulder vs the Knicks and they still took it to a game 7 in the eastern conference finals.. But there is a strong case to be made for 1986 as best ever.
A big Bird fan here, my 1st real NBA memories as a fan was this '86 celtics squad and championship team Growing up my whole life in Massachusetts I was certainly fortunate to begin my NBA journey with this team
My favorite team of all time is the Indiana Pacers, my favorite player of all time is Reggie Miller, I love all of these things and basketball because of my dad. I remember watching Pacers games with him. Reggie Miller was awesome, he scored 8 points in 9 seconds of playing time to beat the Knicks and then taunted Spike Lee on the sidelines. Reggie was awesome just like Larry LEGENDARY Bird who is my 2nd favorite player of all time. My dad made me a Larry Bird fan as well. 31 years ago today (2/4/93) I remember watching the 2 hour Larry Bird retirement ceremony on TV with my dad, seeing all of those highlights made me appreciate him all the way back then to this day.
He always seems to be the forgotten one, and he was so valuable to the mid 80s teams. People point to Bill Walton being hurt in 87, but Wedman went down early in that season. With injuries to both McHale and Ainge, in the playoffs, we were forced to turn to the all-time dipshit, Fred Roberts, to play a lot of important minutes. It could have been Wedman instead, a proven winner. As it was, Darren Daye should've gotten the minutes, instead of Fred Roberts, but KC Jones wasn't all that great at managing the bench. He ran Bird, McHale, and Parish, into the ground for so many seasons.
Best 86 Celtics, My GOAT Bird All you have to do is watch the finals others may have won their championship but none come close to these guys they were almost perfect
im a knicks fan since they had BOTH Mark Jackson AND Rod Strickland running the point.. John Starks, Anthony Mason and Charles Oakley are my favorite players.. Jordan and Bird are my GOATS. then Magic, Kareem and like 6 other players follow
Not Sure Why You Made It Into 2-Parts BECAUSE Where You stopped It At, It's Almost Over With, ha ha ha ha. Going To Be REAL Short On The Part 2, ha ha ha. And O'Yea, Larry.
1986 Celtics 1987 Lakers 1996 Bulls. BOTH those lakers and Celtics teams were TOO BIG, ran TOO MUCH, had TOO MUCH CHEMISTRY and TOO MUCH TALENT. they would have ran that 96 bulls team out the gym
Yes they are the best team ever, no matter which era !!!

Larry bird my favorite and GOAT
I watched all those '80s games live and always liked Parrish. Great player and no BS. He had a good vibe as a person.
I agree, but why do so many people misspell his name?
This is my favorite team of all time. Will always be the greatest passing team of all time no matter what.
Yes, I'd love to see a video on the Chief.

Parish once stated that Bird had the primary assist on at least 5,000 of Robert's 23,334 career points.

84-86 Celtics and of course Bird in my opinion he was the best all around player to ever exist.
Walton is a cool cat!
And let’s not forget Scott Wedman. A total sniper off the bench

Larry is the man!!
Danny Ainge actually had a contract to play baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays, but chose basketball.
Makes sense since the NBA pays more.

Walton was what made them special that year. He had 6 blocks against LA during one of the games they swept against them that season.

Yes the 86 Celtics are better than MJ teams, and the 72 Lakers. And certainly better than Warriors and any LeFlop team
