    Very cool ratchet, that one’s a keeper! I thought it was interesting how the handle splits open to get the head of the ratchet out. SK is a fantastic brand and if you ever work on vehicles it’s a useful one to have around compared to the cheap junk they make today. Well done!😀👍

    That’s a cool tool. I had an old S-K ratchet that would slip. I called the manuf and they sent me a free repair kit. I took apart the inner section and only replaced the broken parts so I could keep the selector original. It was quite an event to reassemble. They provided grease that looked like Vaseline petroleum jelly. It works great now. As always I really enjoy your work. From the windy beach on the Gulf of Mexico, thanks for the fun. 🤠

    Nice job! I think SK has the best mechanism design out of any ratchet I’ve seen. It’s a shame the company has been bought and resold so many times. I hope the new owner can do them right. You should look into getting a pair of Channellock retaining ring pliers. They help a lot! I’ve had some very pesky retaining rings that have taken around a half hour to get out.

    • @357magdad
      @357magdad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've got retaining ring pliers, but they don't seem to help on these type of retainers. I almost need something with tiny tubes that fit over the ends of the ring.

    Reading the other comments I see other people have suggested the same thing. I work with a lot of small retaining rings at my job. And having a set of retaining ring pliers will save you a ton of time. They’ll grab both ends nicely and less chance of the part being lost under the bench never to be found again. Absolutely a beautiful sk ratchet you found and a wonderful restoration!

    • @357magdad
      @357magdad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Nick! I've since watched a couple other TH-cam videos on these wrenches. It looks like a pair of angles needle nose is the tool of choice for those retaining rings.

    My newest car to date is a 2010. What many people don't realize is how dirty cars get. Suspension work, brakes, tie rod ends. I got less dirty crawling through off trail in the Cathedral Caves in the middle of Missoura.

    Top quality American tool well worth the effort to clean up. Very good thorough job. It's amazing sometimes at the amount of crud that can accumulate on tools. When I clean the joints on wire cutters and pliers, for example, I work the handles back and forth with some oil. Sometimes there is alot of dirt that flushes out. I only have some combo SK wrenches, but they are very serviceable. I see Chuck isnt wearing safety glasses today. He needs to stay away from the wire wheel.

    I've always like the SK brand. I'm looking for the ratchet centers for two 3/8" ratchets. I need to keep an eye out for the ratchet you have there. That looks super useful. tHanks for the video!

    It is a way better design than the flex ratchets Odd that the only ones I have ever see have been in you tube videos

      My understanding is that they are somewhat collectible.

    It would make for a lousy video but I just soak those ratchet heads in ATF overnight and then keep a rag under them for a week or so. Really enjoyed the SK history lesson there.

      It's fun and challenging taking ratchet wrenches apart. The different designs are very interesting.

    What's the point of it split down the middle?

    • @357magdad
      @357magdad  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is required for assembly / disassembly.

    Those are some of the most sought-after ratchets by S-K. The only thing I never liked, which is evident by your intuitive notion, is the backwards selector. I also don't like their new lame duck Chinese owner. S-K will slowly go the way of the buffalo I'm afraid.

    • @357magdad

      That selector is not my favorite design.
