I chose to go here first over Kholusia, and the music really cemented the "alternate dimension" feel of Norvrandt
Also first thing you see is a chonk cactuar and it's uncontested in terms of first area choice options.
I picked this area first as well. Honestly don't regret it.
Kholusia's creepy music did a good job on the alternate dimension feel as well.
Going Amh Araeng first sets the tone for the expansion much, much more starkly than Kholusia, and it honestly reframes everything you do see in Kholusia with that much more dread.

I reached Shadowbringers recently and the moment i stepped into Amh Araeng, i stopped in my tracks and just listened to this track for a good 5 minutes because of how calming it was.

I still feel like the light effect being around is what makes this song song so good. So atmospheric for a land washed away in light, in a hot desert, desolate but grand. It gave it a mysterious vibe but also a hopeless one too, while still being beautiful and terrifying.
The light effect makes me feel sick when I look at it too long I was glad when I finally took care of all the light wardens and the sky was normal
It really gave to the "stop doing things, just sit and rest... maybe forever" feeling very well.
Dialogue in this part of the MSQ reveals Amh Araeng is actually cold -- cold enough to make you shiver. Which, for me is a fantastic detail: That blazing light in the sky might be bright, but it is NOT warm and welcoming and cozy. It is there to destroy you.

Storywise it is. But endgame isn't even released yet
They weren't kidding when they said high fantasy was on the way, so far this expansion has exceeded my expectations!
@channelofstuff sb wasn't terrible, it just came after heavensward and before shadowbringers so it simply didn't hit the standard square set up themselves

Yeah, Tsukuyomi was good. The Ala Mhigan baddie girl whose name started with F, whoever it was... a super boring, dull and forgettable villain, don't even remember her name. Stormblood was a ton worse than Heavensward.
This was my favorite ShB track. Nothing captured the lonely sadness of a world being devoured by its own salvation so well.

The first steps into this area were so powerful, between this haunting music and seeing just how destructive the Flood of Light really was.
And then when you hear this song right after Tesleen's death...
This theme takes me back to old RPGs where you entered a zone and something like this would play, really reminds me of ragnarok online.
I was thinking in ragnarok too. Soundtemp has a particular way of composing field songs, you wouldn't think of using electronic music to a fantasy setting but somehow they manage to make it work.
Maplestory had awesome music and always fit the theme!

@@armandozertuche4054 I used to lament that. I was on one of those low-mid rate private servers (13/13/7 Lightside server) for yeeears. Really was beginning to make a name for myself and started several trends (Big time flower power alchemist and dual dagger venom breaker assassin ohohoho the trolling!) In today's games it really feels hard to distinguish yourself from the crowd. Min/max gears with ideal skill rotations and things like that don't excite me. Gotta say I love FFXIV I was there from alpha 1.0 but I took a 5 year hiatus right when Heavensward came out because I was so displeased with the new direction. That said, I really appreciate it for what it is. They gave WoW the Final Fantasy treatment with characters, a storyline, and music that I truly love engaging with. Filled it with esoteric knowledge and shout outs to the Ascension of our own world. No, they don't make em like they used to...but maybe one day we can figure out how to capture those awesome games from our childhood in a modern way.
This was suprising. Absurdly chill and dreamy. The vocals are really beautiful too. As an aside, I really like Ahm Araeng. The goldrush theme was really refreshing.
When I heard Amh Araeng was at the border between the flood of light and what was left of the world, I had imagined the theme would be straight up *depressing* , so yeah, quite a surprise.
I love how this theme just says desert. Like a full on, sand duney desert. Not a rocky desert like Thanalan but a sandy one. It has such a shimmery sound to it. Like heat rising off the dunes.
This is the track from the ShB OST that had everyone convinced "yeah, this is the best of gaming times I've had for a decade".
I literally stopped instantly when i got to this area for the first time ,yesterday. Absolute magic

@Chrono Amiel as a dps, in my case it's always the tanks that afk and set us back in the queue. Literally always the tanks when this happens to me. At this point I'm convinced that it's intentional. It happens *way* too often.

This song elicits a tone of such loneliness and hopelessness, with just a bit of light hope sprinkled in. Perfect for a quest about caring for the doomed.
My favorite Shadowbringers field theme, but this whole soundtrack has been amazing so far. I get NieR vibes from this too :o

First thing i thought when I stepped in.
My favorite zone track so far. I was fishing for a while and just went into a bit of a trance. SO GOOD.
I love the depressing, sombre, yet ever so slightly hopeful atmosphere of ahm araeng in the 5.0 story, it’s part of the game that stuck with me the most over the years and the music is such a big reason as to why the atmosphere worked so perfectly, the slight feeling of positivity in the face of hopelessness and loss was communicated perfectly.
This song brought back memories of me playing Ragnarok way back in the day

There was just something about this music, it sounded sad but also relaxing. It was so attractive and amazing that I didn't want to leave and turned off mount music. Did this for Rak'tika Greatwoods too.
Ikr. Never before have I turned off mount music before. This expansion made me do it cause of how good these field themes are
If you haven't turned off mount music because of Yangxia in Stormblood, Amh Araeng will phyiscally cast out a sandy hand from your monitor and choke you until you do.
You kinda knew this expansion was special early on when you first heard this track. And it never let up, even through 5.3.
I do not envy the team working on 6.0...
Honestly though, that’s been the thought every expansion, and they always deliver with something more amazing than before.
One can only wonder how the following expansions can top Shadowbringers, or at least be on par with it.

When i reached Amh Areng i immediately remembered Oerba (hometowon of Oerba Dia Vanille and Oerba Yun Fang) from FFXIII.

What I like about this track is the distinct feeling it gives, of a tired world that's given up a long struggle against its fate.
I went here first over Kholusia and discovered the vibiest zone that ever vibed in any MMO ever.

This theme fits so well to the desertic lands bathed in the everlasting light. Everything look so desperate and washed by light. As if we're in a different star (literally) and trying to find our way in.
Ahm Araeng reminds me of FFXIII-2 a lot. Desolate and post-apocalyptic.

And the premise of Eulmore similar to the glittering city of Yusnaan. Man that game had a great soundtrack too

The voice and tempo are what sold Amh Araeng's day theme as the best overworld theme in the game. The voice in particular is just so relaxing to just listen to. Everything about this is just... beautiful.
Yeah, it's got that sort of sad and ominous feeling to it that really matched the whole story in Shadowbringers. The song also worked really well at the beginning when you meet Alisaie and find out about the people's suffering. I remember right after the cutscene where Tesleen turns into a sin eater and this song played I was just thinking, "wow this is really heavy"
This song legit left me speechless when I heard it the first time. I just sat there after zoning in and listened to it for a few minutes

I was absolutely in love with the music when I entered the area... it has the feeling of barren land, in another world, and the voice feels like laments because of all of the horrors of the flood of light
This is definitely my favorite map, and from the very beginning, its theme had a very haunting yet beautiful feel to it.
I just finished Shadowbringers myself, and I must say, I absolutely love this track. It’s a nice drop of relaxation in what feels like such a charged story, with nonstop action.
The music does an amazing job at adding to that otherworldly and desolate feeling. It helps remind you that you’re on another world that has almost been completely annihilated.
The place where I live is experiencing a massive heat wave with almost nonstop clear skies and harsh sunlight every day. This song is what plays in my head every time I step outside.

At first the music didnt quite grab me but man after a while I just realized how beautiful and soothing it is.
I knew i wasnt going to be the only one who was gunna love this track when i heard it. I love how different they went for a field BGM. I cant explain it but reminds me of like old mmo feel from like 2003ish-2006ish games.

I love this theme. I think this gives a bit of a nod to FFXIII-2's Village and Void which is also the overworld theme in Lightning Returns at the Atomos Sands in Dead Dunes. You can never go wrong with an awesome track like this playing in a desolate sea of sand. Perfect combination imo

SHB just hits different. After completing SB which was a drag and defo the weaker expansion, starting out now on SHB it just feels like I'm in another world which is the premise after all. It really threw me off the equilibrium from the moment I first arrived at the first. I'm close to Titania and man this music has been taking me for a ride, I don't think I'm ready for what's in store. If HW shook me up, this is going to absolutely blow my mind.

Whenever I hear this music while visiting Ahm Araeng, I always feel my heart heavy with memories of short times I had with Tesleen.
Tbh, I never knew I eventually killed her during first dungeon. I was so tired when playing it, so I thought she’d return to human when everything gets settled. But I recently found out that I actually killed her, and maybe that’s why I feel a bit depressed whenever I listen to this music. :(
@Phoenix But even then i think it doesnt work on someone who has already physically changed. i mean her body was already disfigured. So i think she was too far gone already.
This sounded familiar from the moment I heard it, and it bothered me for an hour trying to place it, until I realized how musically similar it was to the style of music in Metroid Prime.
Remove the vocals and it has the same kind of feeling yeah.
This song just puts my mind so at ease... Then I think of Tesleen and the feels take over...
