    I just love this piece SO MUCH... And I'm not even a trombone player.. I'm a trumpet player, and I'm overwhelmed and rendered speechless by the immense talent that performers show when playing this piece!! Crazy. Praise the Lord for music! :)

    This is how the piece ought to be played. It’s a show piece. Go as crazy as you can handle or practice for!

    Yea I think he's been honest, this is definitely not the best he could sound. Probably on one of his bad days.

    • @kris-yp6yj
      @kris-yp6yj 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eso es porque está enfocando el sonido a la cámara, tiene que girarse a un lado para que no se escuche tanto el sonido de la lengua, además que el auditorio es muy seco (acústicamente hablando).

    Yeah I was at his Master Class the next day and he said he could barely play a note because of all the jet lag. Poor guy just arrived from England the day before.

    • @cooperhettinger3540
      @cooperhettinger3540 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      the bell is missing lacquer, lots of players strip the lacquer off to get a warmer darker tone, especially with a rose brass bell like that

    • @ChaplainAcosta
      @ChaplainAcosta 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      bonebonebone bonebonebone, so does the stripping result in a random pattern that makes the trombone look like it needs to be cleaned? And I can’t see a little lacquer making enough of a difference to be audible to the human ear.

    • @cooperhettinger3540
      @cooperhettinger3540 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChaplainAcosta it does actually! the petina is what makes it look like that and I've seen some really beautiful ones. and it doesn't make a huge difference in the recording but sitting next to someone the difference is massive, it sounds like a totally different horn.

    • @ChaplainAcosta
      @ChaplainAcosta 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      bonebonebone bonebonebone, I’ve read about these kinds of claims and the fact that you say there is no difference in a recording lends support to the the likelihood that any difference is psychological (that is, subjectively perceived) rather than actual. Have you ever seen any of those vids comparing expensive professional instruments to cheap ones and they switch between the instruments a few times? If you close your eyes, you usually experience no difference between the instruments; but if you open your eyes, somehow they are different. We want to believe our expensive gear must be better than inexpensive gear. But the real difference is the player. I’m not saying poorly made instruments (bad intonation relative to itself, poorly engineered, etc.) don’t play any different than well made instruments. I’m just saying the difference between a so called good student model and a pro model in the hands of a mediocre musician won’t sound appreciably different. The same is true if they were in the hands of a professional musician. In the latter example, the student class instrument will sound amazing if the musician is amazing.

    • @sean.trombone
      @sean.trombone 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would agree, the instrument itself doesn’t really matter, except for comfort to the player.

    • @carolepaul8390

      I think the speed takes some of the beauty from the solo. The main nice slow nsolo is not a comedy act. I do not carre how great he is. As a composer I expect my compositions to be respected!! Carole Paul

    • @prut9261
      @prut9261 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@carolepaul8390 do you have any of the history of this or Arthur Pryor? This is a show piece, first and foremost.

    • @jacobruiz97
      @jacobruiz97 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually this is prototypically accurate, since Arthur Pryor rushed the hell out of his pieces.

    Бешенство техники! В ущерб чистому звучанию!

    • @Haritonov46
      @Haritonov46 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      О его звуке трудно судить по этой записи, она некачественна. Я вообще не его поклонник, но должен признать, что интонационная чистота его двойного стаккато впечатляет. И, конечно, тембр в пассажах НИКОГДА не будет таким же чистым и объёмным, как в медленном движении. Увы!

      This was an amazing performance. I was in the second row in a small venue. I can highly recommend the Eastern Trombone Workshop (renamed the American Trombone Workshop) held yearly in March at Fort Myer in Washington,DC. I've attended 3 of them. Free access to all events from Wed-Sat. featuring world class trombone performances - jazz, classical, concert etc... Competetions, master classes, performances and nightly concerts all free and amazing. A must do for any brass fan.
