The photos don't look overexposed at all. and not to punchy. Really nice.

Great video mate! You've got some really mint captures.
I don't think there's any harm in over-exposing, even if its seven-gagillion stops!
    Cheers for sharing mate!

Hi Riley, I don't know how the YT algorithm put this in the recommended clips for me but it did. I'm now 74 y/o and have been into serious photography since the age of 11 when a really good art teacher at school introduced photography to the class. I've used a lot of Ektar 100 along with lots of other film. I've looked at your pictures and something puzzles me about the exposure. I began to wonder if the meter or shutter in your camera is acurate. You might find it helpful to use a hand-held light meter and a Grey Card (18%) to see if anything changes when you set the camera totally manually. Can I suggest you try, (maybe someone would loan you a meter and show you how to use it?) and you can get a Grey Card easily from Amazon, Ebay or your local Photo shop. A good h/held meter and card would also allow you to do a direct comparison with your camera meter. Do a little research on the web but, try to look at information specifically relating to use with film, not digital cameras. Don't get bogged down on things like white balance, look at checking the basics of your equipment. Maybe you know someone who has a different (Film) camera so you could do a side by side comparison? As an example, a good wedding photographer using film would always use a h/held meter and grey card because you are fighting the stark white of the Bride's dress. Correct exposure in that scenario could be really challenging. The other very remote possibility is, whoever is processing your film are they using chemistry suitable for Ektar? There are so many variables but Ektar in my experience was/is one of the finest colour films I ever used. Finally, congratulations on working with Film, you will learn a lot more about the basics of photography. Hope that helps.

wow thanks so much for the help/tips. i’ve wanted to buy a handheld meter for awhile so i could more accurately expose images. i only have one friend that is in to film photography and he is yet to buy a hh meter as well. If i knew anyone that had one i would definitely ask them if i could borrow it or just test it against my cameras meter, but i don’t. so for right now i’m just relying on my cameras meter and worrying more about compositions. in the future once i have a comfortable amount of money i will definitely buy a meter and i might make a video about it as well.

Oh, there is probably nothing wrong with his camera or its meter. His technique using the camera with TTL metering may lack some fine points, but not enough to throw off the results that much. What is throwing off his photos is that he is intentionally over-exposing the film by 2 stops. He is doing this because he doesn't know diddly about exposing film, and he is blindly following some nonsense he watched in a YT video. If he doesn't know enough about the subject, he isn't able to sort the instruction (Nick Carver) from the bullshit.(That would probably be anyone hauling about a Mamiya 67 studio camera without a tripod, taking incident light readings by pointing their Sekonic meter to the heavens, and shooting Portra 400 at 200.) He doesn't understand that when his lab scans his negatives for him, the scanner fights to recover an image from his grossly overly-density, grainy, unsharp negatives. So, dude, if you think Ektar is too saturated for your liking, then pay less for Gold 200, or even less than Gold for Lomography in the 100 - 400 speed range., and stop screwing around. Poorly composed and exposed photos look just as bad on expensive film as on cheap film, but being a screw-up is much less costly on cheap stuff while you are finding a clue.

@@randallstewart175 hey buddy i rlly don’t give a fuck. i bought two rolls of ektar once and this was my second one and all i did was experiment. not everything has to be so perfect and made exactly to a standard of perfection. i liked the way these photos turned out and i don’t care that i’m not an insanely good photographer that can compose perfect everytime bcs i’m i’m only 16 and am learning shit as i go. thanks for your time 😁
