    In this video I am shooting Ektar 100 in Guanajuato with my Leica M6 and the Voigtländer 35mm f/1.7 Ultron. Nothing comes close to the color Ektar is able to deliver. I am always amazed when I see the results and also Carmencita did a pretty good job scanning the negatives. On top of that I also shot a roll of CineStill 800t. It was challenging to shoot that at night because the shutter speeds get very long and you pretty much have to rely on stationary subjects. However, if it works out you can expect some lovely results.
    See you soon in the next one!

    2:07 / crazy how there were only three people right there, wearing the colours of the buildings behind them, exactly in the same order. Great images, and a charming town!

    Ektar 100 can't be beaten. It is the best from Kodak. I always want to emulate it in digital too, it never goes too well.

    This brings back some of my favourite memories of Mexico. I recognise so many of the lanes you explored. Ektar absolutely does the colours justice. Very well done Robin!

    I think it is my favourite negative film too. Curiously when I shot it in the 90s, on its introduction, I didn’t like it at all. But the current version is great, especially if the ambient light is not too contrasty.

    Thanks for doing this video. I realize that I don’t really like the the look of Ektar overexposed. The colors of the buildings seemed so faded. Lacking the richness that I see in the video. I know you can’t duplicate the colors of the video, but I think I want to try a roll a box speed and see just how rich the reds and blues can be.

    Nice video. I also like the cosy town - haven't got where it is, but wished to be there, too. What puzzles me is why you haven't chosen 28mm during daylight? The streets are quite narrow.

    Very nice, I really like the look of Ektar 2 stops over exposed. It does look like Ultramax, except you can shoot Ultramax at one stop over and still get very nice vibrant colors. Also thank you for not shooting Black and White again with the Leica monochrome.

    The thing is, there really is no such thing as the “colors of Ektar” or any other color negative film. It’s all interpretation, either of the darkroom printing operator, or the scanning software, or of your choices with the scan in post processing software. I do my own scanning and processing, and I can make Portra look like Ektar, or vice versa.
    Only positive films have a defined color palette and contrast/saturation profile.

      Exactly this. I edit my images slightly. I thinks that’s the great advantage of shooting film, it really doesn’t take much editing to push certain characteristics of the film. The ever so popular pastel portra look is easily archivable with Overexposed Gold200 with slight editing.

    • @Mike_M_Smith
      @Mike_M_Smith 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Slide film also depends on how its exposed. But definitely cheap film cant be made to look like Ektar.

      I agree, I hate seeing all the film elitists swearing by Portra 400. There is plenty of options out there, and yes absolutely it’s up to the persons ability to determine the output of their film stock
