i want to thank you and jim for taking the time to show all these tricks and for making all aware of the attention fur buyers look for in fur presentation and posting these vidioes
Very good info that can be used for any critter. It still blows my mind that even with all the good info available now that folks still both up their fur harvest. You got some good stuff here buddy. Well done.
Thank you, appreciate it & i'm sure Jim does to. Yes I think it will to, they'll always be here so trappers can always go back to them time & time again if need be ..!!
Good video again! I think a lot of guys rush through the skinning and boarding part of trapping; you really have to take your time here and do a good job.
The one turned 180 on the board, if I never seen it I wouldn't of believed it, hopefully some good will come outta the series. Sometimes it doesn't take much to increase or I should say decrease the value of the pelt, so hopefully some will make the changes & next season they should see a much better average, think they will be greatful for that. Thank's MrSly, appreciate it ..!!
I wish people use the the stretchers From FHA or whoever sales Them I brought some and I like them ... Ever since I watched that video you made with the fur agent on stretching marten I've been doing it the same way Jim stretches his marten in the video .. I learned a lot from that video on how to stretch martens
Wonderful series After all the work of catching the animal it's great to know how to get the most for your hard work. I have found where ever I buy my boards I have to fix them so they are the size the buyer wants Get Fur Harvesters book and measure your boards You might be surprised.
Thank you, appreciate it & i'm sure Jim does to. If a trappers not sure he can always come back to the vid's, hopefully they will learn something to help see a little better return on their pelts, I say they be happy with that ..!!
Thank you, the boards Jim uses comes from fur harvestors themselves, they use the same board for male mink & marten. No doubt I believe what your saying, you can see from the pelts that come in that trappers are using a wide variation of boards, Jim in one of the vids suggested to trappers to try & use a standard size board. Fur harvestors has a pdf on their web site of board dimentions, if anyone wants to check, was going to but can't post the link here in the comment section. thank's William
Hey there... I knew trapping was a lot of work but i had no idea... I don't do any trapping, but i find it interesting and enjoy checking out the vids that are on the tube, this is great information for all those that work on the line. Thanks for showing!
Jim works all types, dropped in & had a coffee with Jim a couple days ago & he was working on a polar bear, so everything from a weazle to a polar bear ..lol No never ever seen a marten road kill, only ever seen 7 or 8 marten in the wild. I know exactly what you mean, for me if Jim wasn't there to clean my fur, then my line would have to be much shorter, so I rather have a longer line & get Jim to clean the fur, there's only so much you can do, this way is the most productive for me, thank's
Jim's been in this business a long time & it's great that someone with his knowledge is willing to share it with others, thank you for this comment, i'm sure Jim appreciates this to ..!!
very interesting to watch we do not have Martin this far south the main stay of the trapper here was Muscrat with a Mink every once in a while. We used wire streachers for the rats and the wood boards for Mink. Boy could some people make a mess of a Mink
thanks for sharing the fur master series! i am sure it helped a lot of beginner marten trappers, it helped me for sure i am gonna use these videos for next season with handling marten!
Love such videos! Fur handling after the catch is 50 percent of your total! Don't trap anymore, Colorado saw fit to outlaw any type of harvesting many years ago. Now, the poodles and lawn dogs are getting harvested by the furbearers!, I've kept my traps and snares, as an insurance policy, I refuse to be taken down by predators as a livestock producer!
Thank you, it's unreal really what can be done to a pelt, doesn't take much to decrease the value, it sure pays to look after them. Hopefully this series will help some trappers out, thank's again ...Bigland Trapper
Right on thank's, really appreciate it & Jim certainly does to. That's great & next year we'll do the same for fox or lynx, & thank you for the feedback, really appreciate it ..!!
Thank's, hopefully trappers can learn something from this, when you harvest a animal I think we should make ever effort to do the best job we can. Yes not a bad deal at all, at least some good came out of it ..!!
Thank you, appreciate it & i'm sure Jim does to. All the fur is bar coded for when it goes to the auction house, I don't know any trapper that done what & because this is on you tube, I don't want to know, but if a trapper reconizes a pelt that is his then now he could possibly make changes that will bring better results at the auction, hopefully they'll appreciate that. Thank's again buddy, looking forward to next season already ..lol
I still can't get over the one twisted 180 on the board, stuff like that is hard to believe but it happens ..lol Think we got pretty much everything covered under marten, hopefully some trappers can learn something here to help increase the value of their catch, I think they'll be extremly happy with that. Marten is like the bread & butter to trappers here in labrador, it's by far the main catch here. Thank's Boss, appreciate it ..!!
But was considering doing something different with some water fur, like someone asked about mink inspection window so may but not sure yet but might to some bit's & pieces like that ..!!
You welcome, one think that's this video shows is that there is definitely a need for some videos like this, appreciate the comment & i'm sure Jim does to ..!!
Right on, thank you for the comment, appreciate it & I'm sure Jim does to. Really like the feedback, really helps when it comes to making these vids ..!!
Awsome video again William...Does Jim just work with Martins or all types of animals...? Do you see many road kill Martin up there by you? I really would like to put up my own fur and all and have a nice skin shed to do it in but I'm so fricken busy from day to day with my sons sports or on the line there just isnt enough hours in a day if you no what I mean...I dont catch enough fur to do anyway, but that should make it easier for me...Great series you 2 have put together...Love the accents...
Thank you, a part of the reason for doing this series is shown in this video, there really is a need for it. Thank you for watching & commenting, appreciate it ..!!
In the fur master series like it says in the description of each fur master series video this series only deal with land fur, there is already alot of good info about water fur to be found on you tube, these videos are in sequence one advancing from the next, & as you can see from this video there certainly is a need for it. Hope this helps ..!!
Hey there will. I really need some help and good advice for next years season. I have alot of line to run. My uncle passed away not to long ago so I recived his trapline I need some help with trapping, Here are some of my question's. -How long do you board marten for? -What brand of marten traps LDL or Belisle? -Good bait for marten? If i have any more questions ill know who to go to.
Turbot is a fish, some call it a greenland halibut, we get tham a as a by catch when fishing. Some people use sucker fish that may be easier for you to get ..!!
I'll tell ya what I use & do, works for me - On fur harvestors site they recommend roughly 4 hours until pelt is dry to the touch, but Jim usually leaves them a bit longer. - I use Belisle, I like them & will stick with them - I use mostly turbot Fur harvestors has great info on their site, go to their web site under the heading educational, lots of great info in there. Hope this helps ..!!
I never tryed pike but should be good. I might try & get some suckers this year if I gets the chance, never caught them before, but I know a good spot, how do you catch them ??
Watch the way real fur is made. Those animals suffer beyond comprehension...your opinion to them is not valid..all they know is pain and immense suffering. It's not about what you or I think..it's about what really happens to the poor animals who have no voice. I hope you open your eyes and have a change of heart.
Monica Diaz Here where we trap we trap under (AIHTS) Agreement on International Humane Trapping Standards, the traps we use must be certified, they are designed in a way and made stronger to hold or kill a animal very humanly. Many people who hunt and trap are the biggest wildlife lovers there is out there, no body wants to see a animal suffer weather it be a wild animal or a pet, there are people that maybe should not be allowed to trap as there are people out there that should never be allowed to own pets. I assure you that a humane harvest is very important to me, I respect every animal I hunt or trap. I do thank you for your opinion, most against hunting usually just say something profane & meaningless ...!!
Thank you for respectfully communicating with me. I understand that you are a good person and try to kill in the most humane way possible. I just want to get the word across on what happens on fur farms all over the world. A lot of people think fur is just shaven of the animal, when the reality is different and very terrible. I was one of those people who didn't know how fur clothes were made some few years back. My heart aches thinking about what is going on to the animals while I put my head on a pillow to sleep. I just want to help the animals in any way I can. Godbless William & thanks again for kindly explaining your humane methods
+Monica Diaz Most all wild animals suffer terribly leading up to their deaths. Starvation, disease, injury, infection, etc. Almost none die of old age, in their sleep or whatever. I've come across animals injured by other animals with legs broken, maggot infested wounds, eyes chewed out. What man does to these animals, even if cruel and painful, is no better or worse than what mother nature has in store for them. In fact, man generally offers them a faster and less painful death. It's easy to think all animals would live long happy lives and go to heaven when you are sitting their on your couch petting your kitty cat, deluded by your own detached domesticated lifestyle. But again, that is not how wild animals meet their demise. It's almost always gruesome, painful, and agonizingly slow.
Do not waste your time with this kind of character Monica Diaz, I understand too well and your feelings, you always come up against a wall with people survivalists and hunters! They will always have excuses and always mailsains refuge derrieres of arguments and then invoke the laws of nature or of men to destroy them innocent creatures of God to make the lucrative business matter and animal life, after them flies! These are just opportunistic killers!
i want to thank you and jim for taking the time to show all these tricks and for making all aware of the attention fur buyers look for in fur presentation and posting these vidioes

I plan on putting up my own fur with some help next year... This it an awesome video, sure shows a fella what a proper and unproper job is!
Thank you, appreciate it & i'm sure Jim does to. Yes I think it will to, they'll always be here so trappers can always go back to them time & time again if need be ..!!

Pine martin is that the only fur you deal with i have been looking for videos of yours that deal with other furs
Do you or Jim have books on trapping/processing pelts? Or recommend any?
Hey do Jim sell trapping supplies that I could buy when I drop off my fur to him ?
They run at a bridge at our local ski trail so we just net them , snare them or spear them
Oh yes that's where I get 95 % of my trapping supplies from ..!!
I never tryed pike but should be good. I might try & get some suckers this year if I gets the chance, never caught them before, but I know a good spot, how do you catch them ??
Dip net
Yeah we have suckers up here. Ill watch out for when they run. Maybe i can use some pike too.
Where do the auctions take place William?
This year fur harvesters auctions will be held in Finland ..!!
