I've got a 1997 Suzuki DT 115 its Oil Injection with the Carbs, I last ran it 5 years ago, this weekend I fogged the pistons with Seafoam Deep Creep and hand tuned it over several times. I thumb checked for compression and suction which seems to be fine. I ran the fuel out last time I ran it but went ahead and sprayed some carb cleaner through the carbs. I put a new battery on it and fresh fuel with 50/50 mix, new pump and lines, cleaned out the filter. I cranked it less than 20 seconds at a time using the choke with it never starting then tried fuel priming it and it wouldn't start. I pulled the plugs and they were wet so figure the fuels is going through so tested for plug fire and get nothing. I talked to a Shop they said the CDI doesn't go out just sitting unless the battery has been hooked up backwards which it hasn't so I'm wondering what to do next to find out why it isn't getting fire? It was running fine when I parked it just didn't have time to use it for awhile.

Check for an interlock or safety killing the ignition. They will crank over with a safety lanyard removed but will not start.

@@NCSU4x4 Its getting voltage all the way to the CDI Unit but none of the Plugs are showing to fire? None are sparking when I turn it over.

@@casper3130 check you have good grounds on the CDI. Run a jumper if needed. You can have continuity with minimal amperage capacity. Also check interlocks. They ground ignition; they don't kill the power to it.

The interlocks, l'm thinking l know what those are but to make sure that's just the wire plugs that go together correct?

@@casper3130 is there a red lanyard that you attach to the operator? On the event the operator is thrown from operators station it kills the engine. Same thing can occur for a neutral safety switch to make sure it is not started in gear. These safety switches ground the spark output of the ignition eliminating the ability to spark the plugs.

Hey I've got a question for you if you have a minute. I bought a used boat with an 88 DT115 on it and I've noticed that when I go from trimmed up to fully trimmed down, it seems to smoke a lot more for 10 sec or so. Almost like it isn't getting oil injected when it is trimmed up and then when I trim down, it gets a rush of oil. Have you ever observed anything like this? The last time I had it out, I was also getting a low oil flow warning but only when I got up into higher rpms (maybe 3000-4000). I bought a new oil flow sensor and oil filter so I'm going to go through those and the lines and see if there are any clogs or anything like that. I see some used complete oil pump assemblies online for $35-60 bucks so maybe I'll pick one of those up and just go through the whole oil injection system. I would love to hear if you have had any experiences like this. Thanks!

If you open the oil system, be sure to purge the oil system of air by the factory procedure. The oil system is not very problematic on these motors and if the buzzer was going off the filter was clogging. If it wasn't getting oil I imagine she would be locked up in short order. Smoke showing may just be a result of the attitude of the engine changing how the exhaust is flowing down the leg.

Hi Im about to buy a 1988 Suzuki 140 2 stroke would you recommend it, Regards John from Sweden?

At this point it is a 35 year old outboard motor. The design was solid but parts are getting harder to find. Condition and maintenace will be critical to determine if it is worth doing much with.

I keep that in mind, the engine is on a newly renovated boat with a good price, thank you all the best, /John@@NCSU4x4
