    *I really like this Fly Fishing t shirt design. I think a lot of people will love this as well because of both quality of shirt material, this very strong graphic image and the excellent price. I am wearing it right now and my men's small is a perfect fit.*

    Excellent video. One of the best I’ve seen. Some videos try to cover too much info. This one gets it just right.

    Thank you, I've been trying to learn how to cast a fly rod. I watched a lot of instruction videos, but yours worked! I've been working on this for 2 months and bam, I did what you said and now I can cast strait. Thanks again!

    *Used this rod recently on a river hike in NH. It performed beautifully **enjoyable.fishing** recommend as I had hoped it would, on a whole heap of river smallies using tiny torpedoes and tubes.*

    If your casting is good, you can break your wrist. Tight loops is what its about. If your casting is not good, it'll pile up in front of you with a huge arc in the line. I know a lot of ppl that cast strictly with wrist and no forearm and they do just fine. There is no right or wrong way to cast as long as that loop stays tight on the back and forward casts. If I'm casting 30' plus of line, I break my wrist on the forward cast after stopping the rod, (actually im driving my thumb into the handle sharply) especially if I'm casting into a strong wind. It'll tighten that line right up and punch through and the head on wind stops the wind knots. Only way I have found for me to cast into a strong wind.

    I agree lessons are the way to go in any field that requires skill, the question is, seeing as lessons are fairly expensive, how many 1 hour casting lessons would you need to become really good at casting?

    The technique Mike Roden is advocating is fine for short distance casting and he executes it very well. However the 'self-taught reservoir angler' is casting a good deal further than he is and to achieve a similar distance the instructor would have to increase his arm stroke and open up his stance like the self-taught guy is doing. True, his loop shape and tracking could be improved but he's not doing so bad in my opinion.

    He’s right…slow down with your fly cast and you will both see and learn more.

    What I don't understand is that casting instructors all say you don't use your wrist to cast, but instead use your forearm for it. Yet when I watch them all make their casts they're all using a short snap of the wrist with some forearm action. This is misinformation.

    I'm just the film maker. Mike Roden (email enquiries@curleysfishery.co.uk) did the demonstration.

    i taught myself and i cast exactly like you , except i dont break my wrist lol ,,,,,,, tip for people who break their wrist when casting tie your wrist to the rod it keeps your from bending

    • @email16v
      @email16v 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +tellitlikeitis1963 Funny you noticed the wrist action in the video too. That is like the first thing I learned not to do in fly casting but I will say, he did cast it nicely.

    • @Thibeinn
      @Thibeinn 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +tellitlikeitis1963 He's using his wrist because he's only got a very short length of line out. With such a short length out you only need to use your wrist. If you're good you can just use your wrist for casting up to about 55 feet. I do it all the time and make perfect casts every time when doing that. The "don't bend/flex your wrist" principle is nonsense. The only principle any of these "experts" state which is a principle of real fly casting is "Keep your line taut".

    R.I.P Mike.

  • @Thibeinn
    @Thibeinn 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Really? I taught myself how to fly cast perfectly in about 2 hours. Listen everyone, all the stuff these "experts" spread around is over-complicated, excessively difficult nonsense. The goal is to produce a narrow loop on each cast and also be able to do that when shooting line. Go out in your yards and figure it out. It really is easy.

    • @Thibeinn
      @Thibeinn 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mark C Notice all these "experts" run fly casting schools. They want you to mess up because, if you really want to learn, it will encourage you to sign up with their schools (if you live close enough) and pay them to learn it. So in their videos they teach people nonsense and bad habits in a sneaky way, then when people have trouble learning how to fly cast, they're more inclined to sign up for lessons.
