In the original movie, that scene was there. Probably cut out in the DVD version, but I remember that whole scene vividly when the movie first came out, even the song is titled 'Sabela' on the soundtrack.
That's a French dub over the original english version. The song is essentially a complaint about snitches in the struggle community, like Sabela. The version you watched is not the full version of the movie because that scene is in the full original version. PS: that's how snitches were killed. The only thing missing is a tyre (a rubber wheel) around the neck. It was called 'necklacing".
This french version is the one i saw when i was nine in senegal 🇸🇳before i grew up enough to learn english i watch it again in VO. First time ever seeing my pops in tears wacthing tv
The songs talks about - is about how people like Sabela fed on black people's blood because they were working with whites, they tell about how they do staff and know and understand their languages. So they say in the song "we have cut out all the snitches" thus things get really bad after they killed Sabela. I don't really know why it was cut but it is when the youth was really furious
The movie basically has 2 versions. The 1992 version which is the official version that is available now everywhere. Then an extended version also known as the Director's Cut, was released on LaserDisc in 1993 and was rated R for "strong scenes of violence." Most of us know the extended version because that was the one that was on the DVDs and VHS tapes back then. Personally I remember the scenes cut were this scene, a scene where Sarafina and her mum singing "Thank you mama", and the very last song playing just before "Freedom is coming" where sarafina was singing and dancing with a suit after the speech, I think it's called "VUMA DLOZI LAMI" aaaaah I love that song! I've been looking for the director's cut in HD to date! Still not available.
Most of us South Africans know the uncut version which includes this song. I was very disappointed to see that many some scenes ang songs were cut . NONETHELESS, the movie is still 🔥
The song is called "Sabela". Maybe it stopped making sense after they cut his death out. We saw this movie on video tape in Kenya and the scene was always there.
Am sure its the American version which has the scene removed. The one we watched has all the scenes including this very emotional one. Here is a version translated to English th-cam.com/video/d7UCUsj6vVE/w-d-xo.html
You should check out all sarafina songs they will leave you crying they touch the soul & somehow remind us of the sad history of South Africa. Rest in peace Mbongeni Ngema. MphoS
Yes the song ass well as the scene exsisted but it was the time the movie just was released those times the we as senior students were taken by our schools to go see the movie in cinema proudly south african still get tears in my eyes up untill today🥺🙏🙌
Yes, this part of the movie was in the original movie. The whole thing. And that song was really emotional I hear. They translated it in English not french in the original movie. But yes, that portion you shared here was in the movie. Maybe the one you watched they removed that part for whatever reason but I kid you not the original movie had nothing to hide from beginning to the end inclusive of everything. Nothing was sensored at all. I watched Sarafina when I was a young adult and a couple more times after that as I grew older into a grown woman and the whole time, I watched the whole thing including this music portion. I guess now they are removing some portions, not sure.
Yessssss when i tell my sisters they say how on earth do i remember this when sarafina played when i was young. This is not only the part they cut .. Many parts are cut... Even where they sing bring back Nelson Mandela, they were actually rehearsing after school in a class. Then one of the learners came running to a class and said to other learners Ssssshhhh.... sssshhhh.... thulani nango amarhata ayeza (Keep quiet policemen are coming)where sarafina is singing with her mom actually kuningi nje okususiwe.
Hey Ralph, the song in short is about snitches, the likes of Sabela who sold out their own people to the boers, the song is actually called "sabela" it is still a very much loved song. Research on apartheid "askaris"
Didn't know that the term "Askaris" is also used in SA. We use it here in Kenya too with a similar origin. (Snitches who were appointed as policemen) .
Yea the old vcr tapes still have the scene I don’t know why maybe it’s one of the powerful scenes that depicts the truth of what was really happening with ppl who would get paid for snitching on their fellow brothers the song explains everything I wish u get English translation not French
Yep we know the uncut version, we still traumatised till today. The 50's 60's and the 70's generation experienced the pain, while the 80's and 90's were affected by the trauma and pain experienced by generation before. The 2000's generation thought they were born free only to find out equal opportunities are not as equally shared amongst the two group types, as the system turns to lien in favour of a particular group of people.
I did not even know they removed it. This is how it starts.they have a tendency of erasing history. Next think you know jiki jiki sarafina will just be a musical with wyt kids singing at schools. This is painful part of history.we must not forget. I remember finding my mom's dom pass and asking what is this... Because I was to young then to understand what was going on in 1994. Until I watched this movie.jyo the Shock and chest pains I had.
Burning informant: I think the scene inciting violence on informants is't good for the society because this was a legit fear, they had brake dawn those stigmas so removing the scene spoke to that, ideally we want eye witnesses to still speak out on crimes. Knowing they can be burns isnt a good look
The reason the song might have been removed from the version that you watched is that it speaks of snitches and that this particular snitch gets paid R100 for each man that gets “caught” (Killed)… the song justifies the brutal killing of this particular snitch (impimpi). And indirectly justifies mob justice and vigilantism… Side Note: during the days of apartheid those accused of being snitches were lynched, they were “necklaced” the movie draws a parallel to that but removes the necklace reference for its inhumane nature…
I watched sarafina since i was 6 years and i just watched the cut seen 2 but what i can tell u is that the song has a strong meaning behind it it means Which states that sabela was a rat/snitch selling his people to white people and a lot of people had died because of him I hated sabela wen i was growing up Full movie is on netflix with all of those cut seens
The version was cut because it shows how snitches get stitches(in our case death) so yea we all knew the scene existed even the song Even the song explains how they themselves were tired of the people of their own snitching on them and decide to take matters into their hands
Snitches used to get tyres back in the day.. Probably the version you watched the uploader didn't want to be flagged for violence. We watched the full movie with this scene in it and most of was like 5-8 years old.
Hmmm, that part was never cut from the movie , there readjustments in some parts of the world , it’s there, I know the song very well, but that was sarafina’s turning point , they can’t cut that out
The scene was never been removed, get the original movie watch till the end. Sarafina it's musical even all the songs are available in sarafina music album and the movie is based on true life story. We celebrate the youth day because of what this young people suffered during apartheid 1976 june 16 soweto Johannesburg.
Snitches all over the world have ended us.Even in pretoria (where union buildings are) governance of the county(like the white house of SouthAfrica), pay you. Oh God help us In short❤ You can search for songs with English lyrics
They cut the scene because the tells the story of how they killed innocent people to a point where students took matter in their own hands We knew about the scene...check the end song in sarafina they also removed that part
That scene is not cut on my Sarafina movie. Maybe it is your American version were it is cut off. In terms of the language, they are singing in Zulu but I think the movie itself was translated into French.
Those of us who remembers the full version let gather here for a moment of silence to our brother and sister who haven't seen it
We know this scene, i was not even aware that it has been removed.
Same here
gave me trauma as a kid
In the original movie, that scene was there. Probably cut out in the DVD version, but I remember that whole scene vividly when the movie first came out, even the song is titled 'Sabela' on the soundtrack.
Yep! VHS days. I also remember it so well.
@@IzzoForex we had the VHS tape too and it had all the scenes they cut off in the US version
That's a French dub over the original english version. The song is essentially a complaint about snitches in the struggle community, like Sabela. The version you watched is not the full version of the movie because that scene is in the full original version. PS: that's how snitches were killed. 🤝
I agree with you fully. We saw that version. MphoS
This french version is the one i saw when i was nine in senegal 🇸🇳before i grew up enough to learn english i watch it again in VO. First time ever seeing my pops in tears wacthing tv

There's an entire Sarafina album with all the songs in the movie
I definitely remember this scene from when i first watched it at 4/5 years old😂. I haven’t seen it since,it’s scary how vividly I remember it.
It was one of my favourite part of the movie... Because you see so much emotions from their faces
Most of us South Africans know the uncut version which includes this song. I was very disappointed to see that many some scenes ang songs were cut . NONETHELESS, the movie is still 🔥
it must have been removed by youtube, on violence code. The old VCR and DVDs that scene is there
I didn’t know that THEY had removed it 😢 This was my one of my favourite songs from the movie ❤
This here was my favorite scene got mad when I couldn't see it anymore but what's crazy was that this was our norm
In the original movie the scene is there, I remember asking my mom why they were burning the man which she then told me that "Snitches get stitches"
As a Kenyan am shocked to realize some people cut this scene....i know i watched it...
The song is called "Sabela". Maybe it stopped making sense after they cut his death out. We saw this movie on video tape in Kenya and the scene was always there.
Yeah I know the scene back in the days when we were still using VCR
Am sure its the American version which has the scene removed. The one we watched has all the scenes including this very emotional one. Here is a version translated to English th-cam.com/video/d7UCUsj6vVE/w-d-xo.html
and this is my favorite song in the movie. its a song about snitches, spies and double agent during the strugglr
It's a brutal scene but it depicted how they would deal with snitches but I also think it's because necklacing was also used as a method to kill them
Hi everyone!!! That's me 🙋
In our versions this scene was there ,we din't even know they cut it
This scene was in the one we watched as kids.
snitches get stitches mode
In South Africa we know it and we shocked that it's cut out from yours

You should check out all sarafina songs they will leave you crying they touch the soul & somehow remind us of the sad history of South Africa. Rest in peace Mbongeni Ngema. MphoS

Recently read the book "Askari" by Jacob Dlhamini. Rough! That's how it felt reading it.
Know I asked every single member of my family even my grandparents they said they don't know this scene ever existed
This was in the actual movie….watched the movie more than 16 times 😂😂😂😂😂
Yea the old vcr tapes still have the scene I don’t know why maybe it’s one of the powerful scenes that depicts the truth of what was really happening with ppl who would get paid for snitching on their fellow brothers the song explains everything I wish u get English translation not French
The the version of the movie uploaded on most TH-cam pages has the scene deleted.

Search for SARAFINA IN PRISON
This scene exists in the original movie...it seems they cut it in other versions

This was our reality in the townships during the 80s. Apartheid South Africa
I watched sarafina since i was 6 years and i just watched the cut seen 2 but what i can tell u is that the song has a strong meaning behind it it means

I think they also cut the part where the teacher Mrs Masombuka was thrown outside the window.🤷
Snitches used to get tyres back in the day..
Probably the version you watched the uploader didn't want to be flagged for violence. We watched the full movie with this scene in it and most of was like 5-8 years old.

In short❤
You can search for songs with English lyrics
I think they cut it so it won't cause controversy the lyrics basically talks about Black people who sell out their Brothers and Sisters to Boers.
We should complain to BCCSA
Try playing the one with the English version so you can understand
The original movie was not cut, I know this scene
It is franch.
They cut the scene because the tells the story of how they killed innocent people to a point where students took matter in their own hands
We knew about the scene...check the end song in sarafina they also removed that part

That scene is not cut on my Sarafina movie. Maybe it is your American version were it is cut off.
In terms of the language, they are singing in Zulu but I think the movie itself was translated into French.
I think they forgot to make him wear a necklace (car tire and set it alight)
Google "necklace" South Africa Apartheid
