@ThatFireLA in the movie Sarafina was supposed to be in her teens 17/18 yrs. The character that plays sarafina ended up marrying the guy in the car in real life .
Those tanks were a regular sight in the township...the movie literally depicts life in the township during the apartheid era...that shait happened for real..
So basically this movie is about a young girl that has dreams to be something big.. But unfortunately the educational system deprives them of learning infact the system is designed to oppress... When questions are asked ppl dissappear... So this shows us hints of the 1976 soweto uprising whrre students were now fedup with the system and demanded better education.. A lot of people died... Hence we celebrate june 16 in south africa as a holiday called Youth day. This movie is a drama, musical and theatre production in one
I think Sarafina was 21 years old in the movie. The guy in the car trying to talk Sarafina up is actually the one who wrote the movie (Mbongeni Ngema) and was about 30 years older than Sarafina. They actually ended up being husband and wife in real life, and divorced after many years of marriage when the guy took on a 2nd wife.

Amongst many of his traumas, were the petrol bombing of state vehicles. There was one time his ambulance almost got torched, but some community members defended them since they were helping the injured.
