- This is a DIY way to seat a small tire using a 5 gallon bucket. Use a smaller bucket for smaller tires. Your bucket should be newer because of the stress with air and weight added to the bucket. The towels are not necessarily needed.

Without a doubt, this is pure brilliancy. I thought I was just about out of luck and was going to buy a tube for a crinkled up new tire I can not get to seat. Saw this video and my jaw dropped in awe at the ingenuity and simplicity in this method. Thank you Sir.

This worked on a tire that had a 4+ inch gap on one side while the other was flush. Had to hold the wheel to seat one side, then the tire to seat the other. Incredible ingenuity. Thanks so much for posting this, I would have bought a tube otherwise.
Thank you sir! Did two tires on my 35 year old lawn tractor and it did the trick! I didn't even need the cloth to help seal the bucket. Side note: Filling the bucket with several gallons of water takes up space the compressed air didn't need to fill. It might help for those like me with air compressors with small tanks..

Good idea. I just bought 2 new rear tires for my zero turn, mowed my lawn the first day they were installed, now go back to mow a week or so later and one of them is flat, BRAND NEW!!! so I'm going to try to reseat the bead myself.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was fighting and fighting to get my tires to seal. The first one I spent 2 hours trying the ratchet strap, and the rope and pipe. I had to walk away before I got too frustrated. I saw your video and voilà it worked like a chram! Instead of the rag, I had some weather stripping laying around, and it sealed perfectly! The second tire, I had off the rim, the new one back on and filled with air in under 30 minutes. Thank again!

I just used this method to mount 2- 20x8.00x8 lawn tractor tires. I must say, it worked pretty good. I've tried other methods before and have really struggled. What helped me the most was that I used an LP torpedo heater to heat the tires up before attempting it. It"s really important to make the rubber more pliable by heating them. It did take me a few attempts, but if it didn't seat, I would re-heat the tire assembly and finally they would seat. Plus, I kept lubing the tire bead before every attempt. I used a little dish washing liquid with a little water. Thank you so much for posting this. It made the job go fairly smooth.
Your the man! After struggling for an hour to seat the bead on 8" rims I started looking on TH-cam and came across your video. I used a 2 gallon bucket and I still can't believe how well this worked. Thanks for posting for all us dumb asses.
I refurb mowers and resell. I've changed 30-40 tires on my harbor freight changer. Got 2 tires today that were 4 ply and crushed in the mail (straps and tape). Wouldn't seat with bead sealer, and even blasted starting fluid and a lit match in there a few times - - - nothing. Wouldn't seat. But, this worked . . . and in seconds. I spent 2 hours changing 2 tires and with your help, got em seated in seconds. Thank you!!!!!
Literally, the most worthwhile vid I've seen in ages if not ever. This did the trick first time. Within seconds. Wish I'd seen it hours ago 😀. I filled the bucket with water up to about 3/4 full. My small pancake compressor had no issues airing up the tire. Thank you so much!!!!!

I love clever people. This is freakin' genius! I had no problem doing the small tires on the front of the mower, but those rear tires (the exact size you have in the video) were impossible. I've wrestled with them for days. I was ready to go buy inner tubes and decided to try one more TH-cam search. I found this video and 20 minutes later both tires were inflated! That included time to find a bucket that I seldom use and some proper tape to seal the hole in the rim.
Having an inflator that clips on and stays there without you having to hold it helps. Sitting on the tire while inflating it helped as well.

You sir are my new super hero. I will from now on call you “Super Tire Guy”. Worked great. Had my son help hold the tire while I put the air in. We eliminated the rag, and just made the rim of the bucket wet with soapy water.
1000% easiest way to set the bead. Been fighting with new tires and this method by far works the best. Thanks

Ok yesterday I saw this and wrote I would give it a try today. I had a pair of ATV tires that the sidewalls would not come nearly close enough to the rim to seal. I tried your method a couple time, no go. Then I tried the starter fluid method and singed the hair on my hand.
Back to the bucket. The tire were 20x10-9 ATV tires with a 4" opening in the center of the rim. Used some HDPE plastic to cover the center opening and lug holes. Lubed the tire well (very important) and after 5-6 tries, I figured out the method, and pop-pop, the tire seated. Second tire took WAY less tries.
Thank you for this video, it is a much more effective, and safer method of seating difficult tires.
This is exactally what I needed. I changed the front tire of my mower and couldn't get the dam thing to take air. It was all twisted and out of round, Thanks WallMart. This worked like a charm, I needed a smaller bucket an I dampened my towel, but the tire is on now. Thank you for sharing.
Man you are amazing! I spent hours trying ratchet strap, rope, starter fluid. Nothing was working, but this worked perfectly after a couple of tries. Mine also sealed better rubber to bucket with nothing in between. You da man!
Amen! After bloody knuckles, painful knees, the only thing that kept me from just setting the tire on fire and rolling it over the hill was that my Zoloft was working really well, then I saw this video. Dang! it worked like a charm! These tires are especially bad since they are so wide, exact same size as the video, no way to get the two beads close. This is a genius simple solution, and I didn't have to blow anything up with flammable vapors. Thanks
YOU SIR ARE A GOD!!! I fought and fought with the tires.... Went for dinner and had decided that i had been beaten.. I don't like loosing battles when fixing things so i decided to try again once i got back from dinner. Almost gave up again but then decided to see what you tube had to offer. Your video was the first one that caught my eye. Sure enough i tried the first tire and by the third attempt, BOOOOM! she's fully inflated and beaded. I say it again... You sir are a god!! This is the kind of video that keeps on giving. I was about to give up when at 2:30 in the morning I thought I would see if there is anything on TH-cam and sure enough there was, the second was yours. Got everything together and made a number of attempts. Couldn't get the seal through the rags so I cut up the old tube from the old tire and put that around the edge of the bucket. Second attempt worked. Thank you for sharing just the nuts and bolts of this idea.

I had fits trying to air up my new tires, there was a space of about 4 inches between the tire beads and wheels. After I tried several times to air them up I swallowed my pride and took the tires to our local tire shop. The guy used every tool he had and every trick he knew including an air blaster. He finally told me that if I could leave the tires with him, he would use a tire stretcher and maybe that would work, I didn't like the idea so I took them home. I looked up your video and decided to give it a try. It took me a few tries to figure out the sealing of the tire against the bucket rim and holding on to the tire as it rose with the air pressure, but it worked just as in your video! I just wanted to thank you for going to the trouble of making the video. You saved me a lot of frustration and time! I'm thinking about showing this procedure to my local tire shop. Again, thank you very much!

Tried everything and didn't have any luck. Came in and watched this on youtube. I was skeptical but tried it anyway. Took a few minutes to get the tire to seal on the rags without any help but finally got it to seal and she popped right up. Job complete. This is a really great video!!!!!!!

Just mounted two tires this way after struggling with the racket straps. I gotta say this is an absolutely brilliant and elegant solution to this problem. I mounted one tire without any towel on the bucket. The second tire was very stubborn. I managed to improve the seal to the bucket using some foam 2x4 gasket and it worked great! Thank you so much for this tip!

Best damn bead seat video I’ve seen! Just about a month ago I watched a handful of videos of several other techniques, a couple I use to be proudly proficient at doing, but I still failed continuously. Found this and BOOM! Both tires are done and I’ve mowed several times this year so far. Thank you sir! A million times over!
Absolutely the BEST DIY tip for seating beads on mower tires... I just downscaled the size of bucket to seat a stubborn smaller front tire... worked like a charm!!! Thank YOU!!!

Your method worked perfectly for the 20 X 8 tires I purchased. I had to modify the plan by using a 3 gallon bucket when I did my 15 X 6 tires as the 5 gallon bucket was too big to get a seal. Thank you for the assist! You saved my mental well being and there was no way I was going to go to a garage and pay to finish the job!

I usually don't comment on videos, but I must say this works! Without a bead blaster this was the only thing that worked for me. I tried the starter fluid trick & ratchet straps down the middle of the tire for hours to no avail. Then I saw this video, and used this trick and within minutes had both tires seated and ready.

AWESOME!!! After hours of trying the other tricks, I tried this one and on the second attempt it worked less than a minute. The Carlisle 20x8x8 was all folded in and now it's nice and round and rides like a champ! Thanks a LOT!
THANK YOU dirtcurt1!!! After trying the bucket (empty) and the towel (dry) with my DeWalt pancake compressor a number of times with no joy, I read many of the comments and filled the bucket 3/4 full with water, wet the towel and placed my 20x10-8 wheel/tire on top. Cut a 2x4 to fit inside the rim and ratchet-strapped the whole contraption together SNUGLY with the 2x4 compressing the rim into the tire. Added air in short bursts from an attached inflator (with the valve core removed) and the bead seated and tire inflated on the first try. GENIUS solution!

Dude... I have never had as much trouble beading a tire as I did with this little lawn mower tire, it whooped my ass. I tried brute force, ratchet straps, starter fluid and profanity, even said some pretty rough things about its mother. Nothing seemed to work. But then I found your video and nailed it in like 10 minutes. It was awesome. Thanks man.

Just browsing TH-cam (as you do) and came across this. Years ago, before the days of Cheetah bead seating tools, the industry used to use inflator rings which used this principle. You could even inflate truck tyres with them! Sometimes it was hard work getting them to seal, but once you got the knack, they worked brilliantly!
Brilliant,my local tyre guy couldn't get the tyre on with the bomb tool.It took me a few tries as I wasn't sure if the tyre would bust,but I eventually got it.Cant thank you enough.

I was just about to go to the tire store to get my tractor tire inflated because there was about a three-inch gap between the new tire and the rim and doing the "Ether" thing wasn't nearly enough. (Damn-near started a tire fire in the backyard). But before leaving the house..... I went to my "Good Ol' Standby", TH-cam. Lo and behold..... I learned something new and cool, today. Thanks a million for one of the greatest life hacks that exists, today!!! (You saved me a trip to the tire shop and the bill that would have come with it).
You are brilliant. Thank you for taking the time to post this. I spent 2 hours at the tire shop while they tried to get the beads to seal. Finally told them I'd just take it home and use ether. Spent a couple hours trying ether, straps, etc, with no luck. The tire shipped extremely flat and out of shape. Using your video, I found success on the 4th attempt within about 10 minutes. Here's how I got it to work...
I taped the axle hole, soaped up the tire beads, placed the tire on the rim of the bucket and pushed on the rim while adjusting the tire until I could hear no air escaping between the bucket rim and the tire, and then used my ratcheting tie down strap to hold the tire snugly to the bucket. Finally, I aired up the tire and the beads set. Success!
What simple elegance! I ordered new tires for my mower and the seller squashed them flat to save space and eliminate packaging. Needless to say that they retained the flattened shape even after mounting which made it impossible to seat the beads. I'd nearly resigned myself to what seemed the only other option which was ordering tubes. Thank goodness that I blundered across this video, it worked like a charm. I would recommend using Gorilla Tape if you have an axle hole bigger than 3/4 inch, mine was a rear axle hold of 2 inches. Thanks!

Awesome stuff, used it tonight on 2 way out of shape new rear tires. I changed up the method by replacing the towel with a bead of grease and putting a ratchet strap just snugged around the bucket and tire..... awe the pop pop sound of victory!!!!
a week later, I have shown this method to several people who now declare me a genius!! thank you again for an awesome video!!! I changed up using grease to Murphys hand soap, is washes off way easier than grease and seals just as good!!

This is an awesome method!!! I tried many different ways people had posted on youtube to no avail. Even the igniter approach, which seemed to work momentarily, but the tire I was trying to mount was so small, it deflated before I could get more air into it. Plus, I felt like a moron trying something so dangerous. This one is simple, safe and worked when nothing else did. I commend you for such a safe and simple solution... much appreciated!

This really works, I ordered new tire from sears, the tires came compressed, had a plastic band around the circumference of the tire, they only thing I did different was line the bucket whit a heavt garbage bag, my son and I got it the first shot, thank you so much for posting this. 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀

Aug 2 2015 you posted this video. I took 2 wheels and new tires to a major tire chain. They mounted the tires but couldn't seat them and fill them with air. Your video DID! Only thing I did differently was leave the Schrader valve in because I didn't have a tool and ended up having to basically sit on the tire to keep air from escaping. Thank you!!!

OK I had trouble with new tires yesterday. I came inand was thinking I'd have to use tubes to seat and use the tires. I searched on TH-cam to find answers first though. Some didn't look god or easy and some for this just plain didn't work with this as I'd already tried a few! This did! I'm glad you you this on here. I will say that a compressor of good size is needed asI first tried my small one with no luck, It would almost do it but not quite. At least a 15 to 20 gallon tank is needed! Maybe a 8 to might work but I had to dig out my bigger one and then it went right to it! TY!
