    Informational, however, you would just re-use the crimp tool from the rj-11 on the rj-45. The cable tester has no crimping capabilities.

      he used the crimper to crimp the r-45 connector in the first step of the video.then on second step you have to use the cable tester to make sure that cable is good.that why you see the cable tester there. i know compTia could throw people off with their PBQs.

      @@garylove2836 The new version of the test has a punch down tool, since there are RJ 45 keystone Jacks, instead of the tester (or it could be a different version), so would that be the same thing or would it still be the crimper?

    As I prepare to take the test I do appreciate videos like this. Mainly because for me I get angry at the second part about crimping and the use of a cable test on the RJ45 & ethernet cable. Mainly because it says crimp and you would use the same crimp tool you used on the RJ11 connection and not the tester. The tester doesn't have crimp functionality on it merely testing for verification of a properly built/connected cable. Coming from a field where I made these cables daily it's aggravating.

    Wait...a cable tester can be used as a crimping tool?

    • @InformatikLab
      @InformatikLab  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, a cable tester can just test the pinout of a cable to detect if the cable was properly crimped

    VOIP needs to be connected to an RJ45 cable, no? Its Voice over IP, meaning It needs to be Ethernet. If its a cordless phone converted from a PSTN line, you need to use RJ11.

    • @mgstechtips
      @mgstechtips 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only reason why I think RJ11 would be correct, is because they don’t specify if that phone is a voip phone or not. It just says “home phone”.

    • @TomTKK
      @TomTKK 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mgstechtips But he's plugging it into the VOIP part of the router, and the only connection that would allow IP packets to a router would be an ethernet connection.

    • @mgstechtips
      @mgstechtips 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TomTKK they make adapters for RJ11 to RJ45. I rewatched the video, he does say “voip phone” if you listen carefully . So yea, one would assume you would need a Ethernet and not the phone line

    • @TomTKK
      @TomTKK 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mgstechtips Yeah but without him even saying VOIP, it says VOIP on the router. If you see that in your exam make sure you don't get caught out. This guy got another question wrong on another video I watched.

      @@TomTKK I watched another video and they said the same thing. That it was the RJ11 phone line. It doesn’t make sense

    Can someone please explain why you can't just connect the modem straight to the PC with the RJ45 cable? That's literally my own setup as we speak...

    • @InformatikLab
      @InformatikLab  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes we could use RJ45 for the phone, but in the simulation they put a different port RJ11 so you have to use it anyway, you probably won’t use it if you’re working on a system now, but in the exam you can’t leave it empty
      Thx for your comment.

    Step two the answer is completely wrong compared to the question, "Use the correct tool to crimp cable end to the connector." A cable tester would only test if the cable was valid and give you speeds, length and depending the model more detailed information, I would not be the correct tool to use to crimp the connector. Even in the explanation the tester works on RJ11 and RJ45, meaning if the tester was also magically crimping wires, that it would be the correct answer for the x cable. Both The Z and the X cable would use tool B. And tool (a) from the looks of things is a wire cutter, that I may be wrong about, the last time I saw a coaxial crimper it had a round crimping whole not a square whole with a a blade.
