The BEST Harley Davidson Ever Made!!!: The Legendary Harley XR1200 Test Ride and Review

  • Ever watch the Netflix show Ozarks? Well here I am in Lake of the Ozarks reviewing the famous Harley Davidson XR1200! I ride, have some fun, and compare it to the Harley Roadster, a bike that everyone thought would be the new XR1200. Maybe we will see Jason Bateman?
    This bike is a 2010 model, and it looks to be completely stock. It is definitely the sportiest Harley Davidson motorcycle ever made. The classic 1200 Evo engine is decked out with some Buell internals boosting it to 90HP! That is quite a bump over normal 1200CC motorcycles from Harley. This is a very rare bike, and was based on the famous Flat Tracker race bike, the XR750. Click the video to watch the review, which is more just my first ride thoughts and opinions. If you are looking for one of these, you better act now. Only 11000 were ever sold in the US and prices are starting to rise on them. Worst case scenario is that you buy one, don't like it, and then sell it for the same price you got it for. They don't lose value!

    I don't know if the XR1200 is the "best" Harley Davidson ever made, which is always subjective. But I can tell you this as the owner of four of them: I'm 69 years old and every time I get one out of my building, it puts a smile on my face just looking at it. Then I ride it and know why I collect them. I think they're the most pleasant and enjoyable "small-twin" Harley ever produced. That I'm sure of.

    I’ve owned the XR1200x for the last few years. A 2011 version. Scary Torque. My first Harley, I don’t like Harley Davidson but this one is the only Harley I would purchase. I’ve experienced NO tank swelling issues. I put mine in the garage. The low fuel light is not accurate. I only do short trips so not a problem. Mine has the aftermarket exhaust, ohlins, tail tidy rear. Carbon fender and lower fairing. I just installed dual sport tires . Mate black everything.

    I test rode one a few months ago before I bought it...then I fell in love coming off a Duke for 26 years. Came with tons of extras...Vance & Hines and upgraded brakes, suspension and 2 fairings, cases and back rest. AMAZING bike! Never thought I would own a Harley. It's a 2009 and yes- the "Mirage Orange" is the rarest of all the colors, (sparkle flake in the color) Love it...it's my daily now. :-)

      @Revvinthe417  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! That is a lot of extras that are hard to find these days. Good score! This is the only Harley worth owning, in my opinion.

    I have this EXACT bike, same color, same year, I love my XR, the only things that could replace it are the FTR1200, or the new Flat Tracker from HD, the XR1200 is the best Sportster EVER MADE. The only color that is appropriate for the XR is HD Racing Orange.

    “Basically the roadster”, oh just completely different frame and swing arm, completely different engine internals and heads, different intake, different tank, different suspension and forks, different seat and foot pegs, different brakes. Aside from that it’s completely the same..,

    I just bought xr1200 2009 all stock with a Vance and Hines exhaust. This is my first motorcycle and I just love it. The seat is original and uncomfortable for long rides. I’m thinking of ordering the front windshield that Harley sells for this. I get a lot of compliments from random people.

    • @Revvinthe417
      @Revvinthe417  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It would do well with a windshield. Those V&H exhausts are impossible to find these days. What color?

    My wife told me to get rid of mine because of a growing family. So...I put it on Craigslist for 10,000. Hopefully no one will buy it but I fulfilled my end of the bargain. Hey, she didn’t tell me what to ask for it!

  • @KevXRDuke

    Not a bad review. But most of the XRs sold in the US were converted to racebikes. AMA had the Vance&Hines XR1200 series for about 5 years before they folded. The XR1200 is a top contender in the Holligan Racing. I ride an XR1200 and it is a horrible street bike. They have modifications to tame it down and make it more street friendly. I had it tuned on the dyno and between 75mph and 110mph it takes off like a rocketship. I had to put a autotuner to make it more street friendly. The XR only Power Commander...with the tune was not dun in the South Florida traffic.

    Do you know if there is a replacement gas tank made for these bikes? I’m concerned about the tank swelling issue.

    • @Revvinthe417
      @Revvinthe417  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There isn't. I have looked all over. But, if you find one without the swelling, it is unlikely that it ever will swell. If it does, there are tons of unswelled tanks on ebay.

  • @KevXRDuke
    @KevXRDuke 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The bike is tame stock...once you dump the 40lb exhaust and put a lightweight 2 into 1 it saves around 25lbs. With a PC you can raise the redline up over revlimiter. I set mine at 7300. I have been riding sportbikes since the early 1980's. It is not a very good streetbike and a horrible bike to commute with. It is a fun bike but not for everybody.

    • @Revvinthe417
      @Revvinthe417  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have been looking into exhausts. This one is ridiculously heavy. There aren't a lot out there for it these days. I may end up with the Zard system.

    What do you think of the 2009 model Harley XR1200X? There's one for sale at a Canadian dealer, GP Bikes, with 29,000 kilometers in matte silver. I would be trading my 2007 plasma blue Kawasaki 650R Ninja for it. (I don't know if I should trade? The 650R has been great in every way.)

    4000rpm you're just hitting the fun zone(high tq rpm to high HP rpm)
    Stock pipes are quietest of Sportster stock pipes. $5000 there's something wrong with it
    You need slow speed maneuver practice/lessons
    Does it really have more tq/HP than other 1200.........or is it fooling the motorcycle treadmill by being geared lower.......XR 2800rpm is 52mph, XL is 60mph, XL in 4th is 52mph
