Thank you for a well spoken video. I have just under 5K on my orange 09 XR and it is a surprisingly capable motorcycle. My only modifications are a Shorai lithium battery and the small quick detach windshield. I mostly ride my 11 Dyna super glide, but whenever the XR gets the nod, it starts and runs just fine. Even after all these years it is still showroom perfect.
another canyon carver thats also a dirt. bike sort of ...bet it handles off road better than an Africa Twin that still aint sayin' much ..I tried 4 different styles of tires and could never get stable with all the front end push of an Africa Twin..that if you notice all Honda Africa Twin videos are cutting a new solo track in desert sand way under 100mph and maybe a fake jump off a tumble weed .what about 3+ inch longer wheel base of a fire bolt and makes over 100HP and under 500lbs...there is way more differences between a buell engine and a sportster that most Don t understand or care about . I bought the service manual from Harley for the 2009 XR1200 + 2009 XLH 1200 ...there is a huge difference of the two engines...the mods for the XR that stand out are the oil spray jets cooling the bottoms of the pistons ..and there is an extra oil cooling system and thermostat inside the lower end case
@@JohnSmith-ip2ed Ohlins is best ! there is a Harley deal today of front forks and rear piggy back all adjustable showa from Harley for $1200 and some change ! im going to check out the race kit front forks with a bit more suspension travel before I buy
Only someone that hasn't ridden both bikes would make that kind of ridiculous comparison. Since when do people buy motorcycles based solely on price? Someone looking for an XR1200 is looking for an XR1200.
@Mark1Mach2 depends on how much riding you have done. this weighs 200 pounds more than most's of those bikes and has 3 times the power.still if you rode a lot it might not be that bad for you.just take it easy on the throttle till you get comfortable with it.
It is a cool bike bro. thank you for posting it and kinda describe the bike lil close up and detail. But please help a brother here. I'm still undecided to choose between white or black color. Which one would you think be the coolest? Bimo from Indonesia
The bike makes less torque than the stock XL1200 but it revs higher and makes considerably more peak horsepower. Plus a K&N race air filter ($69.99) will bring both up even more.
hey buddy would u buy one I rode nothing but roadglide and want something a little light to monover due to my accident last year my ankle id fused so I was going to put a electric shifter plz get back to me I'm 5,11, 195lb tell me what u think I want somethin to boot around on !!
Again, these comparisons are fundamentally flawed. There are a plethora of bikes available in today's market, and there's a reason that everyone isn't lining up to buy the exact same model of bike. People desire different things, and not everyone is cross shopping whatever bike you happen to think is cool. Don't want an XR? Great! Find another bike and be happy with it.
I saw one of these in traffic and thought it looked remarkably good for a Harley. Sad to see it's inexplicably heavy and has a porker of an engine. You could buy 3 clean SV650s for the price of this and each one would be a better bike.
noisy engine ..i bought the cheaper Fueling Hydraulic Lifters that make no noise at all ..even the factory service manual says the stock xr1200 hydraulic lifters are noisy at start up ..not any more since I installed Fueling !
Only someone who doesn't know anything about bikes other than Harleys would miss the obvious comparison to the SV: naked twins with similar performance and ergonomics. You want another comparison? The Street Triple or Speed Triple are both cheaper, lighter, and more powerful. The Speed is far more powerful. Harley needs to stop building overpriced, overweight garbage, bottom line.
You don't get it. SVs were watered down for the mass market. It's not about being cheaper or lighter. SV 1000 was downgraded in power and suspension from the TL1000R and S. Here Harley made an effort to do something different. Bikes are not made to be compared on paper. They are made to be experienced. If you haven't ridden one you have no voice.

A bike I liked when it came out. His last line sums it up. ''Look at this thing, it's cool''.
I opted for a Buell Ulysses.
Good review.
thats what most say about my mirage orange 2009 XR1200 with a mirage orange 1/4 cafe faring and solid black windsheild every where I go !

yes,I do own a 2009 XR 1200 it's black and i love it
Mines an 09 but it's an x with the adjustable suspension. Seems to be a variety of world specs

Tom do you also write for ‘Road Runner’ magazine?
Oh mate I'd def. pick up a Xr a 10000000000% sure. The Iron 833 is a damn nice bike, too .... but the money mate... the MONEY ... ;)

Yes it is. =)

Probably be a bit much. They are a bit sporty
para quem curte pilotar uma bike esportiva com um projeto e tocada retrô!
The only thing I am concered about this bike is the Fatigue. It looks pretty uncomfortable
Will this be a good starter bike? I have ridden 200cc bikes in the past but not any high cc bikes like these.
No. Bad choice
no 1200cc is no a good starter bike. 500cc is

another option is buying a ducati monster 696

Hi,
are you from indonesia?
Your last name Siahaan, refer to Batak's name
I rode my mates xr1200x on a recent road trip, amazingly slow, and sloppy... I actually had to pull into a slow lane to let other riders past!
Really? I'm calling bullshit on your riding abilities.
Sounds like you are the problem, not the bike.
I call bullshit, and if not than you are a shit rider.
Ha ha, its called taking the piss, guys!

This guy says several things that are wrong like it has less power than a Sportster and that the pipes look like the dirt track bike they don't
Hahahaha. It is a Sportster and makes 18HP more than a XL. In the Harley world is a shitload.
just another overpriced piece of nothing special at all.
Fuck off! Have you ridden one? Do you own one? Do you even ride?
