Hi, I have a question. ESV should be dose in one dose minimum 1 ml per gallon or could be dose in separate small amounts. My tank is 100 gallons. How do you dose your tank. Thanks
@@MadHattersReef I figurate out how to dose the product and is very stable now. I dose 5 ml every hour with 30 minutes between two parts. I contact ESV and the dose should be 1ml per gallon and is enough to keep my parameters 9 kh 450 cal 1350 magn all the time. I use ESV magnesium separate when the water need it. Also I test ICP and ndoc to keep everything stable. I dose the rest of each elements with ATI products as need it. You can see my setup SPS dominante on my channel. Thanks
@@MadHattersReef if someone need to know how to dose the product using dosing pump contact me and I could help. Manually is good but dosing pump is better and more stable. ESV company was agree with me about dosing small portions every hour for more stability. Keep dosing parts between 30 minutes apart. Depends on how many corals we have could be the dose. Is a great product but no one explain really how it works. I have to contact ESV company to get a real answer from them.
The labels on mine were in a different place and it said to fill up to the top of the edge of the label, did I do it wrong? It didn’t have the arrow either
ESV B IONIC 2 part system is the best! They were the first to add the trace and minor elements long before thenTriton method. I haven’t done a water change in 6 years and I did an ICP test recently and everything was spot on! Everything important, anyway.
Hi Goldslinger, I have question for ya, I’m thinking to get cal & alk now this days they are some many products different brands.what do you recommend esv b ionic vs aquaforest brand? I know brs is ok but don’t want to use that any thoughts helps thanks
@@Ruffles206 ESV B ionic sis old and proven. My corals still thriving after 8 years. It’s too easy. I didn’t have luck with brs as I have had with esv. The calcium also doses magnesium, so be careful about adding magnesium, just add once a month if needed.
A lot of people are swapping back to B-Ionic for the trace elements primarily bc water changes are not a main source of reducing NO2 and PO4 anymore. Less water changes = lower trace elements. Most LFS use B-Ionic or something like it with trace elements. Great video!
nice video Jeff...this is the most easiest way to supplement your tank with alk and cal..you cannot go wrong with it...Cal Reactors are good but the fact it drives down the ph is not something a guy like me is comfortable with specially whose sump is in the basement where the pH is low...thanks for the great indepth tutorial here...
Yeah I had a huge brick in my jug as well I followed the same procedure but I also came downstairs every couple hours to shake the heck out of the jug it took two and half days to fully mix. I manually dose every day with these two I love this stuff. But I noticed my store I go to his corals in frag tanks look amazing real healthy he showed me he had his dosing set right up to two five gallon pails of this and takes lot of worry off of his hands made me jealous so now I wanna get a dosing unit now
Great video and definitely some good points to consider. I have never used B-Ionic but have seriously been considering changing up from BRS 2 part for a while now. I've been watching a lot of videos lately in the comparison of the 2 and B-Ionic comes out on top with more trace elements and better coral results. Sure BRS is initially cheaper, but if you compare the dosing calculators you have you use more BRS 2 part to get the same levels as B-Ionic. In conclusion BRS is good if you are new to the hobby or don't have much coral, but if you want to get more advanced with some serious coral then B-Ionic is the way to go.
PsyWAR Reefing I learned the hard way that the calcium part contains the magnesium so you don’t have to dose it separately. ESV is the only 2 part system that also adds all essential trace elements as well. You should add strontium and iodide separately, but that’s all u need.
Thanks Scott. I was looking into 2 part for this build and when I got an Apex I knew that I would be using the DOS. I still my put a calcium reactor on a system at some point just to see how they run.
brian tatgenhorst I have used both and BRS is way better. First you get Magnesium in addition to the Cal and Alk. B-Ionic is way more expensive. With BRS you get way more for your $$ and you can use the old 1gal containers as dosing containers like I do.
had B-Ionic, then went to BRS, then went BACK to B-Ionic. BRS you get more but then you also have to dose more. Kind of like having a car with the 14 gallon tank (BRS) and another with a 10 gallon (B-Ionic) sure the car with the larger tank has more liquid in it, but it requires about 40% more fuel to run the same distance as the ESV. The ESV is more concentrated and to be honest, I got better results using that brand vs the BRS stuff. my tank just looked better than with BRS. I've used CaRx, 2 part, and kalk. Currently i'm using a combo of kalk and 2 part with kalk being the primary (it's cheaper after all to dose that along with the Ph boost) and what ever else needs to be made up with the 2 part.
I know this is an older video. Are you still using ESV 2-part? I have a 210g tank that I want to raise the Cal and Alk in so I can begin adding corals. The direction say to add 1mL for every 4g. Including my sump, I figured about 230g. Comes out to about 57 mL. Is that what is dosed daily or is that split up over a week? I'm getting my Neptune DOS around the middle of next week.
I started adding 15 ml a day and I would test my parameters once a week. I’m constantly making adjustments to keep my parameters at the preferred levels. Consistency is the key. I’m currently using ME coral CAL and ALK
That clumping is a pain in the ass, you have to use your own RO/DI to dilute and then deal with that bs on top. ESV needs to figure it out or start filling the containers for us to help with the clumping.
Nice vid man fun times ahead! Time to go broke stocking this big tank hahahah.... I'll be running a calcium reactor. Plan on integrating it into my Algae Scrubber to Absorb the excess co2... if it works I'm gonna change the game! Hahahha... keep doing what u do!
I think a calcium reactor will be better and more economical for your tank size. Just get a medical grade peristaltic pump (e.g. Masterflex, Watson-Marlow, etc) over at eBay. See: www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-05/sh/feature/index.php
Great article, Thank you! I'm not against calcium reactors and I may put one one the tank down the road just to say I have used one. Thanks for watching!
That's to much the cheap way for ALK and pH is baking soda cooked at 400° for an HR. Nothing I know will raise higher and the price per box less than a $1

how are you controling nitrates and phosphates without water changes?
@@DanofEarth refugium but mainly heavily population of coral, colonies, they eat both, too. I have to dose both now

I just got this stuff. Good video, thanks for the tips.
Thank you for stoping by. I'll have a video update on dosing with B-ionic soon, so make sure you catch that this weekend.

See this all the time. I might have to make the switch.
What are you using now?
Red Sea. Thinking about changing over if the pricing is better.
How's your growth on the corals?
I'm using kalk right now and I've reached that point where I need to start dosing. I see you're using calcium and alkalinity but what about magnesium?
PsyWAR Reefing I learned the hard way that the calcium part contains the magnesium so you don’t have to dose it separately. ESV is the only 2 part system that also adds all essential trace elements as well. You should add strontium and iodide separately, but that’s all u need.
Great video Jeff. I still like my kalk for now but if the day comes where I can't maintain my levels with it 2 part is the way to go.
Thanks Scott. I was looking into 2 part for this build and when I got an Apex I knew that I would be using the DOS. I still my put a calcium reactor on a system at some point just to see how they run.
Hello
How often do you have to buy those bottles?
Thanks
Luis
It depends on how much you dose. A gallon last me a long time still. 6 months or so.
Do you still use ESV B-Ionic?
What's your opinion on esv vers brs two part?
I've never used BRS 2 Part. It would be unfair for me to have and opinion on something I have no experience with. Thanks for watching!
