I used to think that reading biographies or being obsessed with learning about a famous figure was something that only really big fans or ppl who had just too much time did, but now I see that it can be very inspirational and eye-opening. it's a bit sad what the world can do to you and how little control you have. they turned banksy's talent on him and instead of valuing his art and message, they value his name alone and therefore devalue his message. now he's just a name.
It seems that he only cares about doing trendy things and that's why is his owm fault what he became. The beauty of artist like Basquiat, Keith Haring, Picasso, Van gogh is they were in love with painting some of them were shit other were amazing but the just painted thousands of them. They inspired generations of artist to fall in love with art and with the simple purpose of just expressing your soul. Banksy art is like a cool tshirt you wanna wear just to show your friend you are cool and even though wearing Banksy clothing became quite lame nowadays.
fun fact the shredding painting in the beginning was supposed to shred the painting all the way, it worked in all the trials, but it mysteriously malfunctioned during the auction

They found the paintings sticked to the walls with epoxy, two portraits of the Queen with a monkey face that were to well-executed that it took someone who looked closely to actually tell the museum about it. They also painted on the border of Gaza which is protected by snipers 24/7 and smuggled a giant inflatable doll of Mickey Mouse in an orange prisoner jacket, in Disney World, in the middle of the day. I personally know someone who worked with Banksy and have no idea of their identity (even their voice is changed and they always wear a mask). My hypothesis is that there is indeed a much bigger team behind the Banksy phenomenon. Can't be one person, but I don't think they collaborated directly with Sotheby's.
My Dad put on Banksy’s first art show back in the day & persuaded him to take me & my little bro out painting with him. He didn’t have to but did, it was and still is one of the coolest moments in my life.

Coming from Bristol, I see his art all the time when I go into town...sadly I never got to go to dismaland but my mum who kind of knows Banksy times went 3 times with her students
this is a cool documentary but as your title says 'arts bad boy' he's actually graffs reject. hes whether intentionally or not sold himself out and now you would be hard pressed to find a graff writer or a street artist who would work with him. he started beef with king Robbo (RIP), he stole the rat design from Blek le Rat who was doing it years before in paris. now his work is protected by cops while real writers are buffed everyday. he did make a nice tribute piece for Alone (RIP) his anonymity is a novelty but to anyone that writes its a necessity. every time i tell someone about graff they assume its flowers or all political but its really about anarchy, fame and fun. he might end up an art legend but everyone on the inside knows where he came from and how he got where he is. if you want to know more you should watch the documentary Banksy vs Robbo its on youtube

The rat stencil is known to be essentially entirely stolen from Blek Le Rat. Whilst this is a great vid I feel like the controversy surrounding him in the graffiti world could have been mentioned.
Such a content. Great script! The parallels at the end are so true. The guy just tried to trick the system and now had to deal with the structures he mocks everyday.
