When DPW finds tags that belong to a deceased person, that vehicle should be ticketed and impounded. Using someone elses tag is wrong, illegal and just goes to show how little concern any odf these cheaters have for the law.
What doesn't make sense is why doesn't parking enforcement check these placards? I'm sure the workers are committing fraud in other ways (using a family member's placard), but a dead persons? That is low-hanging fruit and could make money for the city and towing company, not to mention any additional fines for fraudulent use of the placard.

I think they should monitor for a period of time, record it and when it reaches the amount that is considered felony, charge them with felony theft and tow their car. Where I live for illegally parking in a handicap spot there is a fine issued, and the vehicle is towed at the owner's expense. The towing charge is $160. The fine is $280. The vehicle is towed to the city pound. The owner of the car must go to the pound and pay for the fine and towing before the vehicle is released. The cost of storage is $60 per day if the vehicle is not picked up. After 30 days if not picked up the vehicle is seized and is sold by the city. This fixed the illegal parking in handicapped spots. This is the same for people park and block driveways and access points.
Bravo. That's the way to handle it. But also, make sure the signage and demarcation is clear. With penalties that stiff, it's only fair. The fine money can be used to make sure the signs and paint are properly maintained.

Those supposed handicapped people in this video were able to walk just fine. There are truly real handicapped people who need handicap parking. While there are non-handicapped who violate handicap parking, there are lots of people who don't need handicapped placards who are equally abuse handicap parking.
To be fair, there are people who don't appear to be handicapped and who can walk, but only for short distances. If a placard is legitimately issued and properly used then that's all that matters.
They should put the handicap person's picture on the handicap placard to help identify the handicap person to ensure it's them using the handicap placard. Let citizens take a picture of the violator's car in the handicap spot to help point out violators. I am handicap. I can hardly walk due to back and knee issues. I am in constant pain. I see violators all the time. Some don't have the placard up. I put a note on the car asking "Where is ur handicap placard?!". I keep my fingers crossed I can find a spot. More needs to b done. Wuts the point in having a handicap placard if u can't find a spot to park. Very frustrating. 😢👎🛑
That's stupid idea on so many levels. First, it would be a clear violation if the ADA. Second, it would identify disabled people as potential mugging victims to anyone who sees their photo on a disabled parking tag.
