      We had a 11 year decline in southern border crossing to the lowest point in 50 years prior to Trump and his polices. By 2019 Trumps policies doubled the number of people crossing the southern border to 977,000. He only saw a reduction for the first 9 months of 2020 due to covid, before it went back to a 20 year monthly high in October of 2020. It has remained a 20 year high and increasing ever since under Trumps failed policies and Title 42.
      Title 42 suspended title 8 laws and authority used to deter and penalize illegal border crossing. The Right was using it to undermine legal asylum under 8 US code 1158. It also suspended 8 US code 1325; the misdemeanor that carries a civil penalty for crossing the border illegally. And 8 US code 1326; stiffer penalties for crossing the border after deportation That left out any legal penalty or deterrent for those crossing and stopped legal asylum, with few exceptions under title 42. Makes it difficult to enforce immigration laws when Republicans are fighting in court to undermine our legal enforcement. With title 42 suspending enforcement many immigrants re-crossed multiple times causing apprehension numbers to be inflated. The current rate of multiple returns was about 40% of border crossers.

    • @Rowrin
      @Rowrin วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@DrLove-v1v First off, home prices have nothing to do with it because the government foots the bill. It's just like how section 8 housing works. Landlords are putting homes and entire apartment complexes for rent to use as illegal migrant shelters and getting paid by the government to do so.
      Secondly, there are only 3 million homes sold in the US on a given year, and this year it has been significantly less at around 2.5 million. So you do the math. 10+ million people, possibly 15 million vs 2.5 million.

    Moderators who don't understand basic economics. Supply and demand control housing costs. We have a supply issue. Since there aren't enough homes being built, the added demand is causing housing costs to skyrocket. That is a function of local zoning boards to approve new housing construction. Zoning boards have deliberatly not allowed new construction to keep property taxes artificially inflated.

That, I think, is one of the main functions of a moderator's contribution: to ask questions that directly invite the participants to explain issues that are relevant to the interests of those listening to the debate. It was a beautiful question. To me, it essentially was the same as, "Mr. Vance, please explain to our viewers at home the supply/demand principles of our economy that contribute to higher housing prices as a direct result of illegal immi ... ... gration."

    • @jamesday3591
      @jamesday3591 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Okay, well, I said in a previous reply that I agree with your position. I actually disagree with your last sentence on two accounts. First, I believe that zoning boards are approving too much new construction (at least where I live), because they're allowing new construction to occur before the necessary infrastructure is in place to support the expansion of population (roads, police, schools, etc.). So in that, I disagree with your assertion that they are not allowing new construction.
      Second, I disagree that the rationale for such (even were zoning boards not allowing new construction), would be to keep property tax revenue higher, as the number of houses and commercial structures generally has no direct impact on municipal property tax revenue. The total property tax revenue is set by the aggregate budgets of various municipal entities, and then distributed/allocated (by various formulae) over all taxable properties within the municipality's jurisdiction, such that the municipality will generate the exact same tax revenue for 100 houses that they will for 1,000,000 houses. The actual number of houses has no impact on total property tax revenue. Instead, the actual number of houses determines how much of the set required revenue is paid by each house's owner.
      If required revenue is set at $1,000,000, and there are 1,000 taxable homes (assuming, quite unfairly, but for simple math, that all 1,000 homes were identical in assessed value) then each taxable home owes $1,000 ($1,000,000 divided by 1,000 homes = $1,000 each). If there are 2,000 taxable homes (again, unfair, but simple math that all 2,000 homes are identical in value), then each taxable home owes $500 ($1,000,000 divided by 2,000 homes = $500 each). If there are 500 taxable homes (same unfair math), then each taxable home owes $2,000 ($1,000,000 divided by 500 homes = $2,000 each). The revenue doesn't change at all in relation to the number of homes since that number is set independently of both the number of taxable properties, and the assessed values of those taxable properties, so keeping property tax revenue higher is not a basis for disallowing new construction.
      As an additional note, the reason for property value assessments is so that the assessed value of each property can be applied in the formula that determines how much individual property owes. It's a distribution factor of the total required tax revenue. It's not a straight one-to-one formula like the unfair, but simple example math I illustrated above, but rather lower value homes owe a smaller percentage of the total required tax revenue than higher value homes owe, but the individual assessed values don't change the total amount of property tax revenue received by the municipality, just like the total number of taxable properties doesn't change the total amount of property tax revenue received by the municipality. The assessed values simply factor into the formula of how much any individual property owes of the set, unchanging, total amount. The order is: assess property values first, determine the required total property tax revenue by totaling the respective municipal budgets, then distribute the total required property tax revenue across all taxable properties according to (among other factors) individually assessed values, and then send tax assessments to each property according to the resulting distribution. Property Value Assessments are performed by the County Assessor. Property Tax Assessments are assigned by the County Tax Commission. Even though both terms include the words "Property" and "Assessments", they're not the same thing, and they're not performed by the same municipal entity.
      Consider the implications of a real world example. My personal residence increased in assessed value by about 30% two years ago, but my property tax assessment went down by about 5%, even though the various municipal budgets increased the total required tax revenue by about 3%. Think about that. The total required property tax revenue increased, as did the assessed value of my house, but the property tax portion assessed to my house went down. Why? Because there was enough new construction to dilute the required revenue over a greater number of taxable properties, such that my portion went down, even though both more tax revenue was generated, and my assessed value increased dramatically.

      its intermediate economics that firms supply what is demanded, until price meets cost, so its a valid question.
      Also from intermediate economics, and basic statistics we know that correlation doesn't equal causation. Just because immigration goes up and housing prices go up, doesn't mean that immigration caused housing to go up.

      @@branchingoutnurseries4403 Title 42 suspended title 8 laws and authority used to deter and penalize illegal border crossing.
It has remained a 20 year high and increasing ever since under Trumps failed policies and Title 42.

    any economist worth their weight knows that increasing demand while maintaining or even suffering supply chain issues is how inflation is created... never ending expansion is unsustainable and creates unlimited demand which not only drives environmental destruction but also inequality... the federal reserve and their interest rate racket only work when the currency is healthy and leading global competition, which then only benefits a capital building class while the consumer suffers higher costs of borrowing, which also contributes to the inflation... if you remove tens of millions of consumers out of a market, there is less demand and prices fall... this is economics 101

Corporations and the elites, while the general public gets shafted.
    And still this ignores another issue entirely: Allowing migrants to pour in without filing the proper documentation, following the process, etc it only encourages their people to leave their country to come here, rather than attempting to fix their own country's problems.
