This was their first festival (non-seated) show since the events at their Roskilde show six years prior. At the beginning of the show, the whole band was on edge, very nervous. His gratitude was shown for sure at 6:49
One of the best live bands ever. I was there. Im 43 now. But Im still Alive. Eddie was on fire that night in Reading. Im just glad I was there to see it. AWSOME.
This is probably one the best versions of "Alive" I have heard in a Long time, Mike McCready is on fire as usual, and I love the gutteral soundin way that Stone that A5 power chord[I think it is] at the very first second of the song!
I remember this so well, I was standing in the crowd about ten rows back right in front of where Eddie came out on the scaffold. What a f-ing night.. jesus ... if I could relive one gig! that would be it. What a savage gig it was. .. the crowd ROCKED!!!
I LOVE THIS PEARL JAM READING CONCERT!! ONE OF MY FAVORITE CONERTS, I LOVE 2006 PEARL JAM ERA!!! THIS CONCERT ROCKS!!! I LOVE EDDIE VEDDER!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS AWESOME VIDEO 😊 🩷 🤘 ✌️ 🔥
i became a fan of PJ the first time I listen the solo of this song... I saw him the first time in 2003. 2 dates in a row. They played hunger strike. That and listen alive were 2 of the best moments I can remember in my life. The PJ fans have also something I´ve never seen before. That gig last 3 hours.... the best gig of my life.
I was at the very front for this, was stoned out of my head and had been holding in a piss for around 2 and a half hours but it was fully worth staying there to see pearl jam.
I was there, with my Bro. It was one of the best nights of my life. Eddie Vedder was on fire that night. I still get goose bumps listening to this. Way COOL.
saw them at the leeds festival the same weekend, they killed it! awesome. his voice gives me the chills, the croud was so together when they were playing, it made for an amazing atmosphere!!
in 1993 or 94 i had 11 years... in the radio i listen a song that shocked me... and the solo at the end make me a fan of pj since then... so this song means a lot to me
So, the guy on Keyboards is called "Boom Gasper". Anyway, since I saw Pearl Jam live at Leeds Fest 2006, they have become my favourite band, I only wish I could see them live more. They are amazing.
The crowd left absolutely stunned..... what a performance, what band. Just wish i was old enough to attend this festival at the time ! Was considering going to leeds/reading festival this year, untill i saw the shameful line up. 2006 was the year, so it seems!
hahaha. when i read oldeknolls comment i couldn't see this reply, but in my mind i was thinking for a reason and all i could come up with was 'no' then i saw this comment so well put. haha
We must have different criteria for our listening pleasure. As a former sound engineer I've always known that we can capture the detail far more clearly than is available to the concert audience. We can't capture the "feeling" of the sound - especially bass - or the amazing feeling of being in an audience. I love being at live events (my fave being Glastonbury) but I've never been under any illusions about the live sound quality. It aint a patch on what comes out of my hifi.
Ah, you were there? Which? Reading or Leeds? Lucky bastard whichever! My only compensation for not getting there is that I get to hear it much better (and record it ) on the Beeb.
a) I've got a couple of hours recorded b) transcribing it mpg or wmv is a PIA c) I have a computer dedicated to bit torrent (so I can keep the rest of my network secure) but its in pieces at the moment d) I'll get a round tuit eventually...
and eddie jumps agaain likee old timees at 5:35 ♥ jesus christ fuckiing concert that was f**king awesomee i said awesome? well awesome! pearl jam rules the music's world at least..
@MattRyderDJ Red Hot Chilli Peppers are a good band (only with John Frusciante) and Kings of Leon have two good albums. They have also recently used acts like The Libertines and Radiohead. Not a big pulp or strokes fan
It's adorable how awestruck Eddie still gets after all this time. He actually looks like he's gonna cry at 6:49
I was there. He did cry

29 years later, I still get the chills when I hear Stone Gossard playing that opening power chord!

Mike McCready ripping it up.
Note how Eddie changes all variations of the word daddy with father...
Why?
Absolutely agree about Eddie's voice. It is the most "potent" singing voice I know...
@Frogass agreed, could care less where your from and can't see the band
Hell yeah he is one fucking genius!!!! dude....salu2

Pretty good, though do you notice that Vedder always seems nervous when he sings live?
