I worked at a place were we did the same thing. All things were over built to give someone the best value for the dollar.

Amen Mr. If they are trying to haggle down the cost send them to tractor supply or wherever. Isn’t worth your time explaining to stupid people that have NO CLUE what’s involved in design, materials, and labor. 👍👍

I just sold my manufacturing company and retired. What created my wealth was creating wealth by converting raw materials to a finished product and being the best at what my company did. A chinee knock-off typically sold at 60% of my FOB price. The way I got those accounts was simple: highest quality and durability possible and customer service that was exemplary.
Some accounts were only concerned about price and those I simply passed on.Old joke among owners is: "If it wasn't for customers and employees being an owner would actually be fun." 🤣
You know your model works and good accounts are out there. Stay small and concentrate only on customers that want the best: not the cheapest.
My mantra was I wouldn't scratch my hairy arse for 2% net. Don't need the practice building what I build and if you can't see value over price we're not a good fit.

Yes Sir !! The biggest BS story in my line boring business for 15 yrs was well we have 3-4 excavators we need to work over. That's just a thought in there head I would do it cheaper. It worked for the first 2 times then never again after that, the line was costing them money.
