Bob I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis of ataxia. You’re an amazing PT and you’ve taught me much through your videos. I am applying to PT school now! Any case, best of luck to you with dealing with it and we’re here to support you if needed.

Thank you guys. Doesn't seem enough, but thank you from the bottom of my whole heart.
I've had sciatica nerve shooting after being a carpet cleaner for 8 years, working 10-12 hour days.
It stopped pinching the nerve after doing some relaxed standing and walking, months to a year later.
I've never been able to balance both legs and hip since. My right side rides lower and starts to cramp. Thought it was my butt cheek. I've tried so many things over 3-4 years (except go to a doctor) and nothing has worked, except minor things like putting my feet and knees together and bending knees with arms out, putting feet up and sinking hips while pulling head back in a chair.
I've watched 3-4 of your videos that gave me real hope. This hamstring one is the golden ticket, I feel. My hamstring is tight and leveraging my hip down and at an odd angle.
Despite all of my own delusional self diagnosis, when I actually get mindful enough to fire my glutes a HUGE amount of pressure is reduced.
I may be able to turn left soon... it was fun to say I have, "Zoolanders disease " though.

This saved my life. That is not an exaggeration. I’ve been stretching my hamstring for over a year with a zero success. I developed a bursa pain. I did the glutes strengthening exercises and had immediate success. No pain whatsoever in my bursa or knee tightness of the knee. I walked 18 holes yesterday and the golf course and did not know my hip or knee was there. Thank you very much Bob Schrupp. I’m 75 years old and was moving like an old man. Not anymore!

    • @1BeGe

Accurate. Almost every old-timer I know that's how they went. Something injured them where they couldn't do much movement anymore (or they just did a life change and stopped moving) and you could see the degeneration start from that moment on.
Glad to hear you got your movement back.

For the glute bridge, your feet were out too far and that puts more load on the hamstring
For the standing banded hip thrusts, you want a lower anchor point for a more ideal angle of resistance… and you were watching your back which is a sign to me that you weren’t squeezing your glued enough

    • @l.k.2337
      @l.k.2337 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Good observations. I also noticed the feet out way too far for the bridge. And feet were also too close together on bridge. Feet are supposed to be hip length apart.

I ride bike. I ride bike a lot! The price I seem to pay is perennially tight gluts. I assumed it was just a natural result of overdeveloped muscle. Watched this video, tried the simple reverse bridge move that Bob demonstrated. Bam! It unlocked my gluts and took away that tight feeling I had just learned to live with.

OK, I've added stretching to my exercise routine and miraculously it has taken away my crippling back pain. Now I have greater ambitions at 79. I'm trying to revive my body to when I was practicing karate 60 years ago. My hamstring stretching on the stairs is about at your level. But how do you get to the level of a ballet dancer who raises her knee to her chest and then can extend her lower leg straight up over her head? I think when I get fully loosened hamstrings that it will raise the height of all my kicks in any direction. When you achieve one goal then move the goalposts a bit farther out, right?

It's important not to extend your back all the way to a straight torso-leg line. As soon as you do or go past that, the back extensors and hams will take too much of the weight; making the glute contraction isometric, rather than active. You can also do knee walking to properly integrate your hips and legs into bipedal motion. Too many other groups will mask glute laziness when walking on your feet. It's a good diagnostic AND intervention. As is Pilates. Yoga is more of a test than a solution, but still an amazing activity that gets better after a lot of repetition. If you are tight/inefficient, Yoga will burn a ton more oxygen and fat than it will once you get good at it.

This is a great idea! I injured my hamstring for the when I ran a 100 meter dash race, a typical issue of speed sprints. Thanks a lot.

They seem close. I bet they were flexible on who would wear what striped pants. Bob you wear the thicker stripes they insensuate your tall frame. O thanks brad for the compliment.

Can you have pain behind a knee from tight hamstrings? I felt something twinge about a week ago. Now I have pain behind my knee. It could be a varicose vein but I don’t see any.

I wonder if this "gluteal amnesia" is even more prone to competitive cyclists who spend hours a day training on the bike. As I get older, I am feeling more hamstring cramping and tightness and I suspect the source is my glut muscles not activating.
