      +GhouLingo [#1 Ghost writer] it makes sense, i just started so when im adding to the beat i can mentally "hear" what i want it to do, but then i have trouble making the computer produce the exact sounds i want.

      +GhouLingo [#1 Ghost writer] If there's nothing inside your head then you probably wouldn't want to be making music in the first place. If you genuinely want to make music then there will be melody in your head.

    I found that using computers to write tunes is a lot less convenient than using a small recorder or phone and singing into it. It's far more spontaneous and you don't lose your ideas by getting distracted and sidetracked with computers. Once the idea is recorded then you can sit at the computer to finalise the structure and shape of the music.

    I just wanna say,
    Im a design instructor/designer/artist, illustrator painter, I understand it all very well.
    So the way you explain music and focused on its anatomy in numerical and philosophical terms really helped me understand the way music operates and why, “theoretically”.
    Always about Patterns and harmony/ contrast and of course hierarchy.
    You’re a great instructor, thank you!!
    Ive watched about 7 videos so far tbh LOL

  • @TheArrangment
    @TheArrangment 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    A theme consists of short melodic phrases and what music theory calls endpoints. A short melodic phrase is usually 2-4 measures in length, but they can be 3 measures in length but those would be considered asymmetrical phrase lengths vs symmetrical phrase lengths. A endpoint is one long note value. It comes after a shorter note value and it is usually placed on the strong beats of the measure or in your case, it can be tied over from the prior measure. So an endpoint indicates the ending to a short melodic phrase or theme. A theme has many features.

    Personally, I think the vibrato effect you used makes the overall sound worse.

    • @TheMcTrollson
      @TheMcTrollson 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Crystal true, i think it would have sounded better if he used it a bit more sparingly

    • @vacant4
      @vacant4 8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      the reason it sounds strange, is because its not proper vibrato, this is more of a trill
      real vibrato goes above and below the note (not just above), and its not sudden, the note has to glide up and down smoothly, not jumping from one pitch to another
      something else that's important to mention is that vibrato RARELY ever goes from one note to another. Very natural vibrato will not even be one of the 12 notes, it will hover in and out of intonation. This 'vibrato' sounds very contrived and robotic.

    • @Bluebirdinhell
      @Bluebirdinhell 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Crystal I like to automate the pitches in vibrato and imagine the differences I'd make as if I were playing a string Instrument

    This is a new method I haven't used before, for vibrato. I find it sounds better to use subtle pitch LFO's. In 3xOsc you go to the pitch tab and very subtly increase the amount. Pressing the tempo button to sync sounds nice, and to have that delayed effect you wanted you increase the delay and attack time.

    You say in this vid that it's easiest to come up with the chord progression first, and then fit the melody into it. However, when I have ideas for new projects, I'll first come up with a melody...that I sing to myself kinda thing. So my question is - how do I find the chord progressions that go with the melody? Forgive me if you've already done a video for this. I don't play guitar or piano... Thanks! Loving the vids :)
