      I can tell you. The physical universe had to be created before we could create the spiritworld. You had to get a physical body to get spiritbody/soul. Without a soul you cannot go to the spiritworld.

    **DEFINITION**
    A chord progression is a series of chords where each chord is determined by root notes at select note intervals below melodic notes played on the down beats.
    **EXPLANATION**
    Most will tell you that a chord progression consists of a series of chords and will describe the relationships between the chords in terms of note intervals like 1, 4, 5, or I, IV, V. Furthermore, many will advise you to familiarize if not memorize the most commonly used chord progressions. However, **many neglect to describe chord progressions in relation to the melody** in ways that help one determine which chord progressions to play with a given song/melody - which is the whole point of learning how to generate and play chord progressions! So here’s a description of chord progressions in relation to the song melody:
    1. The root note (the lowest note in a basic chord) is often the note at 1, 3 or 5 intervals BELOW the melodic note played on the main down beats (or sometimes immediately after the down beat following a passing note).
    2. Last root note of a song is almost always the same as the last melodic note in a song.
    3. When melodies progress up or down chromatically, root notes are often 3 intervals below the melodic notes on the down beats.
    4. Form your chords with notes 1-3-5 or 1-5-8-10 intervals ABOVE each root note.
    Applying these simple patterns is one way to identify chords for whatever melody one is playing - making what ever chord progressions you learn and memorize almost irrelevant. However, familiarity with the common progressions can help you decide when to use the 1, 3, or 5 melody-root note intervals. On the flip side, any given chord progression can be selected and used (by applying the above rules in reverse) as a framework for composing and improvising new melodies that “tell a story”.

    Some issues with your video:
    - Dyadic harmony can imply triadic chord structures, and that should probably be addressed before you say that chords contain 3 or more notes. If they couldn't, then every rock n' roll rhythm guitarist would be out of a job.
    - Not all chords are tertian, and beginning a harmony tutorial with what's equivalent to saying "pick a scale and play every other note" is misleading. How could anyone understand music like that of Bill Evans if you only think tertially?
    - Not all chords are diatonic, and you should make that clear when defining a chord, or discussing how to build a chord.
    - Harmonic rhythm is the speed with which chord's change. Playing a chord to a rhythm does not constitute harmonic rhythm.
    - Calling chords 'valid' and 'invalid' is very misleading. Almost any set of notes has some sort of role within functional harmony, and absolutely every set of notes can be used musically in the right context. Teaching people that there are 'right' and 'wrong' chords is going to stunt their musical understanding.
    - Making a video on chord progressions without any mention of functionality is entirely missing the point. Take your chord progression as an example: because you've not got any kind of predominant chord, your I - iii - V progression has a weak function, and ends up sounding like an arpeggiated Maj9 chord built on the tonic.
    - Forgetting to mention anything about inversions, and demonstrating all your chords in root position is going to lead to very blocky-sounding progressions with a lack of smooth voice-leading.

      Well, for random tidbits, '12tone' makes quite decent videos (even if he does have a bit of an annoying voice), as does 'Adam Neely'. For jazzy piano-based teaching, 'Walk That Bass' is awesome. For a slightly more structured walkthrough of musical concepts, the 'Art of Composing' channel has a playlist of 8 videos called 'How to Compose Music' which is pretty good. The Music Theory playlist at the youtube channel 'Educator.com' is also quite good, but really only addresses the absolute basics. 'MusicCorner' is another decent option, but they're a little inconsistent when it comes to quality.
      Really, some of the better online resources are elsewhere: openmusictheory.com/ is vet good, as is teoria.com/ and www.musictheory.net/. If you're feeling brave, Laitz's book 'The Complete Musician' is great, but it's really dense reading, so only really to be attempted if you're academically-minded. Schoenberg's 'Fundamentals of Music Composition' is a much easier read if you prefer.
      If you want a resource on counterpoint, Fux's 'Gradus ad Parnasum' is basically the bible of it, which first formalised the rules in a conversational manner (www.opus28.co.uk/Fux_Gradus.pdf), but a more modern resource on part-writing would be Aldwell/Schachter's 'Harmony and Voice Leading'. For post-tonal resources, I'd recommend Roig-Francolí's 'Understanding Post-Tonal Music', and Straus's 'Introduction to Post-Tonal Theory'.
      For anything more specific, just ask! :)

      @MiskyWilkshake 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, I mean... The comment wasn't addressed to you, it was addressed to the videomaker. Obviously, that's not how I would talk about or teach music to a beginner, I was giving the videomaker the benefit of the doubt in assuming he would understand basic theory jargon like that; If he didn't understand that, then he has no place teaching music theory, since those are some pretty crucial distinctions to make.

    • @MiskyWilkshake
      @MiskyWilkshake 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Heh. Fair point! Either way, there are perfectly straightforward and simple tutorials elsewhere to teach beginners in a way that won't so cripple their understanding of music theory.

    the chord progression u made, is that called " 1 - 2 - 3 - 1 " in chord progression code? cause someone said that.. for example in b major 7th 2 - 4 - 1 always sounds good, and i got lost.

    • @superstarben37
      @superstarben37 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, the way I see it is that a 2 - 4 - 1 progression in B major (Which has F#, C#, G#, D# and A#) would be something like C# E G# C#, F# A# C# F#, and finally B D# F# B. The reason why I use the same first and last notes for each chord is that you mentioned 7ths, which is essentially just an octave above the root note (eg C# would have a major 7th of C#)

    It's major, minor, minor, major, major, minor, diminished in a major scale. Minor, diminished, major, minor, minor, major, major, for natural minor scales. I say a person should memorize all 12 major scales so you can play progressions easier. Also, once you learn the major scales you'll already know the natural minor scales since every major scale has a corresponding natural minor scale that's the same. Playing is faster than programming and sounds more natural imo

    • @Max-eo7lz
      @Max-eo7lz 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your comment is a bit hard to understand.
      If you mean "A chord that uses notes that aren't on the scale" then you need to see whether it fits with your song.
      The fact that it sounds good alone doesn't mean anything.
      Those kind of chords are really common in music though.
      You usually have the chords that are using notes of your scale be the most occuring chords, and then use chords with notes that aren't on your scale, to give it some "flavor" or surprising moments at times.

    • @Swagcom-kh7cu
      @Swagcom-kh7cu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@valdemarmejia5770 Because if all Major chords are in a Major scale and all of them are major, none of them will be musical but will be used for tension. All Major chords including Diminished and Augmented will create dissonance. For example, the A Natural Minor Scale/C Major Scale is all white key notes/note keys. The first chord is A Minor, the second chord is B Diminished, the third chord is C Major, the fourth chord is D Minor, the fifth chord is E Minor, the sixth chord is F Major, and the seventh last final chord is G Major. Then your back to A Minor, which is the returning chord in the twelfth semitone, which is one octave. The same chords are in C Major Scale. The first chord is C Major, the second chord is D Minor, the third chord is E Minor, the fourth chord is F Major, the fifth chord is G Major, the sixth chord is A Minor, and the seventh last final chord is B Diminished. Then your back to C Major, which is the returning chord in the twelfth semitone, which is one octave.

    More simply put, each chord is also known as:
    I
    ii
    iii
    IV
    V
    vi
    vii°
    Major chords are the big Roman numerals
    Minor chords are the little ones
    Little circle means diminished

    I don't know why but that chord progression you did at the end there really bugged me. I know technically it's right, but it just sounds so damn ugly to me.

      That's likely because of it's lack of voice-leading. Most professional music you'll hear will voice things a little more sophisticatedly than this, and will create smooth melodic lines within the voices of it's chord progression. I'd suggest googling voice-leading and counterpoint if you want to learn more about this.

      MiskyWilkshake it's funny you should say that because I'm actually just starting to learn about voice leading haha
