Bought one of these a while ago. All I can say is that it's bloody awsome. Got a few references knocking about, but this one tops the lot. Stable, adjustable with ridiculous levels of resolution and way, way more accurate then I'm ever likely to need as a guy who's essentially just a hobiest. The last Vref I'll ever need.

Ian has done a great job on it, he is a very clever guy.

    Hi all,
Nice to see Scott's take on the prototype, always interested to see another set of eyes on the new PDVS2mini.....and of course the YT comments.
I've taken a look at my own prototypes and they don't exhibit the same low end step error on my 3458A, but not to say there's not an issue. I will look into it, it could be a number of things! I'm also not convinced Scott's 6.5 digit Siglent is so far out of Cal as he mentioned.......so I will look at a few things.
Lastly, the reason for keeping the unit level is not so much the heat but that the LM399AH reference inside is well known to vary depending on orientation. If it's orientated differently permanently, then it needs calibrated in that position.
    Cheers.

Update: I think I've found one software bug in V1.00 involving changing the 5th decimal point.....try setting 1.00000 and then increment UP by 0.00001 and then again.......doesn't change output everytime. Go DOWN the way and it's seems ok. I know where the issue is.

I am doing a prototype that has a tilt control, a earth magnetic field detection, a noiseless power source in which Every electron must have updated passport and vaccinated, everything encapsulated in vaccum chamber with a galvanic isolation and temperature and humidity sensors that feed a PID control which actuate a Peltier cell, which controls the inner temperature of an outer box in which the Calibrator vacuum chamber is installed, attached with special elastic tensors in order to absorb spike vibrations. Everything is inside another box made of Super "Q" Radiant Barrier, a layer of water and another layer of lead to prevent muons, gluons, higgs, and pions particles,... the rest of subatomic particles are beneficial to our system . the whole big box is inside a concrete box laid over a 1m sqr of 60 cm high concrete. the concrete basement has several big springs an anti-dumping system controlled by an array of raspberry's pi from England signed by Eben Upton, running Ubuntu with only an AI software trained for that function only and Aikido, so it can apply Aikido lessons to null all earth sudden movements. The house has a black cat radar of 1km radius detection. Still now i am working in how to get into the calibrator without disturbing any yocto-ppm.
...Oh! suddenly remembering my childhood when i use to measure if the battery still working with my tongue...

    Thanks Scott 👍.
Got my notification in on Ian's site.. I want one just to see if my new DMM6500 is within spec :)

Ian Johnston has a great channel and he has some really good ideas. The PCB on this unit looks really well laid out from what I saw and you can see it was made with care!! Would like to see it with a load when you have the time to play with it again!! Thanks for sharing as always!!

Preliminary Spec = 3kohm load minimum. Example: At 10Vdc output with 3kohm load = 3.3mA (whilst maintaining output within approx. 10uV)

Great product and review. 20bits over 10 volt span would be asking alot to have 10uv resolution. Would be easier to implement with lower full scale voltage such as 5 volt. Will definately be saving for one of my own for sure.

I'll think about adding another range. The PDVS2 has it, but it's not so easy with the PDVS2mini. Most people want 10Vdc, but I may be able to add a selectable range. It's all about the BOM though and I don't want to push the price up any further.

But should you not disconnect the shield from the balanced negative black one, and leave it floating?

    Ooow you lucky sod lol.
Low level accuracy is hard to acheave, measuring it is harder.
Yep it's got to be used on the smooooooth batterys, can't get better :-D
That's an amazing device, so accurate.
I'm not suppresed though, ian is a very clever man :-D.
Yes you do need to add a load as it could have an effect, a 2k7 would be ideal, i would attach it to the posts perminant :-D.

Enjoyed the review, Ian definitely makes a quality product. I looked at his reference, but due to the cost and shipping across the pond, I opted to go with a DMMCheck Plus from voltagestandard.com

They were a long time not in stock and now it is back in stock due to brexit it will cost a small fortune, at least some €160-180 in tax, fees and shipping 😟 so that a cool €500 delivered.
I like it a lot but thats just insane.🙄
