Scott is dead on, except in describing the sound as vibrating the reed "faster". What he means is getting LARGER vibrations from the reed. A larger amplitude equals a louder, bigger sound. Faster vibration would mean a sharper pitch. In actuality, a sax usually will go flat as you play louder unless you correct for it as it has to do with the way the reed acts at larger movements.
Scott, can you please explain a little more about how to make focused airstream? Do you curl your tongue as U-shape to make the focused airstream?
