This was part 2 in their apocalyptic theme. Warriors was 1 and Seven Nation Army was 3. VoicePlay knows how much we love their themes. Thanks for the reaction, enjoyed it!
I expected Omar to take that high part, goodness knows he can hit those notes. He has known Cesar for a long time and knows his capabilities. Cesar wanted it, Omar and Eli said, Go for it! I'm pretty sure that Eli was singing harmony. They always pay homage to the original, but it is never cookie cutter. They are absolutely amazing. Definitely react to Warriors. You haven't heard Earl Elkins Jr yet, he was another founding member with Geoff and Layne, he left for undisclosed personal reasons in 2020. He is a phenomenal tenor. Geoff has a new one scheduled this Friday, June 9, and Voiceplay probably a week later. Be prepared!
You have to listen extra hard, but it is three part harmony. When Cesar does that iconic high note, it's easy to hear Eli on the bottom, but Omar is in between - closer to Cesar than Eli. 😎
Seven Nation Army. Layne said it would be fine filming in that abandoned mall. In the BTS video Geoff said that on the day of their goal was to get the filming of the video done and not get arrested.
This is filmed at the abandoned Leesburg High School in an area where Eli grew up. They also told us that it was used in a horror film. That last High note was all Cesar.
that audio cut sound that you thought was so cool, they actually do it for real. ofc the audio engineer cleans it up slightly to make it even more perfectly cut off for the music video, but they have done that type of technique live as well many times, and it sounds just about as flawless then 🙂
There is a theory that Layne is no longer human 😂 or he swallowed a drum kit. Cesar has expressed as long as he doesn't know what the note is he can get some wicked high notes. Loved your reaction, more songs to dive into are Trapped in 3 Minutes by Billy Eilish. Panic at the Disc in 4 Minutes (part 1 & 2), and Queen in 5 Minutes (these should be watched in this order) And Season of Love cover by RJ Rafael ft Voiceplay
I would love to see a reactor do those linked "in x minutes" videos in order! I can't remember if I ever have? Most do the Queen one first (which, to be fair, is the one to do if you are going to do just one). How about it, Tylr? We know you're here for the long haul now, do you fancy doing those right?
Welcome to the unofficiaL MMVPCU (Mad-Max VoicePlay Cinematic Universe). It seem familiar because you already reacted to the 3rd "episode" (7 nation army, in a mall), you are now reacting to the 2nd "episode", in a old school. After that you can seek the 1st "episode" (Warrior, by Imagine Dragon), which was with one of the older VP cast (when Earl and J.None were members, and the introduction of VioLaine)
In a chat Layne showed us how he made that sound. It’s actually pretty simple, except for the pitch changing. I couldn’t come close to that part. We were told that Eli wrote in the journal while they were filming. Then the journal was auctioned off in one of their patron charity auctions. But no one has come forward to tell us what he wrote.
There are 3 post apocalyptic videos Voiceplay have done Warriors some time ago, this was the second and 7 nation army was the third. All filmed in different venues but with similar vibes ❤🏴
This was filmed in an abandoned school near where Eli grew up, Warriors was filmed in a warehouse and Seven Nation Army was filmed at an abandoned mall near Patty Cake studios which Layne and a former VoicePlay member, Tony, own. They were actually concerned about getting arrested for doing Seven Nation Army because they scoped out the building then shortly after, Geoff said police officers were closely patrolling the area
Cesar told another reactor that the chop-off sounds was marked out in their singing and then enhanced in postproduction. And it was the baritone above those two tenors.
I believe this one was in an old school, and Seven Nation Army was in an abandoned department store or mall? And Warriors was in an old warehouse or something. That's their 3 "post apocalyptic" style videos :)
I think you’re catching the trilogy in reverse order. Warriors was the first in the post-apocalyptic story, then Dream On, then Seven Nation Army. But definitely you should check out Warriors. Another reactor (What It Do Dave) said Layne (doing another one of his sounds) sounded like a velociraptor. That’s all I can hear now when he does these noises. it’s soo freaking cool!
Warriors is part one of their apocalypse trilogy. Layne and J None play violins here. Dream On is part 2. The zombies have taken Earl and J None and the guys have picked up Cesar and Omar along the way. This is filmed in Eli's old school, long abandoned. Seven Nation Army is the third in the trilogy. That one is filmed in an abandoned department store int eh same building as Patttycake Studios, which I think is owned by one former and one current member of VoicePlay. (Forgive me. I'm so bad at remembering names of people & things. I'm surprised I remember what street I live on.)
the noise Layne made is based on a tongue trill with a beatboxer's twist to it. If you practice a toung trill and start playing around with it you can within an hour or two get a very rough unstable toned but close enough to prove that is how it did it
Great video man, I'm a fairly new sub but I love your content. I'd like to recommend the Oogie Boogie song for your next reaction, or, if you wanna do one of Geoffs Song, Monster Mash is a really good one.
That trio section was harmony, not unison. Nice that they trade off so others can stretch, for a bit. I always wish for more baritone to give Geoff's bass some reverb, though.
8:25 Not the same note, just really tight harmony. Cesar is on the very top, Omar just below, and Eli filling the lower note - not that it's all that low, as I think all three voices are covered by a maj 6th or so. But the harmony and the timing is so on point, it's really hard to tell who's singing what part.
Ceaser told Eli he wanted to try the high note and Eli said Go for it.
This was part 2 in their apocalyptic theme. Warriors was 1 and Seven Nation Army was 3. VoicePlay knows how much we love their themes. Thanks for the reaction, enjoyed it!
I've heard the location was an abandoned school, which also fits into the apocalypse theme. Gives it all a "Fallout 4" vibe in my mind. 👍

Yes! I saw Omar interviewed and he talked about this section and admitted it was him on the top note.
This was filmed in the school Eli went to. 7 nation army was filmed in a closed portion of the mall that Pattycake Productions is in.
Seven Nation Army. Layne said it would be fine filming in that abandoned mall. In the BTS video Geoff said that on the day of their goal was to get the filming of the video done and not get arrested.

Thought it was a school. Too small of rooms for a warehouse.
the big high note was the three of them in close harmony. Cesar on top, Omar just below and Eli filling out the bottom. 🙂

Layne didn’t just swallow a drum kit, but a hardware store and an alien.

I can picture Layne doing a Herbie Hancock cover - solo. 😁
Rockit!!!
This was Eli's abandoned school. They made this song theirs. Wow.

You really nailed what's special about Voiceplay and also this cover.
This was filmed in an old school. Seven Nation Army was filmed in an abandoned store/mall.

First was Warriors, then Dream On, Then Seven Nation Army. But, yes, they are phenomenal in dang near everything they do.
This is definitely one of my favorite covets by them...probably 2nd only to Valhalla Calling as a matter of fact!❤❤❤😊

The chop up/rewind or whatever it's called, they do it themselves. No equipment involved

I vote for Warriors next! ❤
In Warriors,Layne plays the whole piece, but J also plays part of the time. Same vibe.

Hail to your butchery!! So very funny!
Hopefully one day I'll be able to get through recording a video properly 🤣
They have used this location many times for videos.
