As a child of the 80s this brought me so many memories! When Layne hit that drum solo I actually squealed lmao! And the attitude from Cesar! The vocals from Geoff, Rockstar Eli and those vocals from J...VoicePlay is in a category all by themselves! Love them

For hearing Layne sing: True colors - recomend this... emotional, sweet, purest voices, no beatboxing. Simply beautiful...❤❤❤

True Colors is one of my favorites from them. No costumes, no effects, just gorgeous vocals, and we get to hear Layne sounding like an angel.

Now you understand why the Voiceplayas get so excited whenever we get to hear Layne sing a little part, lol. He's got a gorgeous voice and it's a rare and special treat to hear him sing 🥰

The synth-brass line at the beginning is actually Cesar. He did something similar in their Running Up That Hill cover. These guys are all super talented.
Layne has such a lovely natural singing voice, and I'm glad that it's being featured more. His percussion is phenomenal, his character voices are always fantastic, and he does beautiful harmonies, but it's really nice to hear him take the lead sometimes, too.
You got J.None's name right. (Just "J" is also fine.) He started filling in for VoicePlay's previous baritone (Tony, who was easing out of touring) in 2016, became their full-time baritone from about 2018-2021, then left when he got recruited for a stint with the US Navy Band. Now the guys snag him when he's home on leave as often as they can. (They may have some attachment issues. 😉)

Great Layne moments can also be found in "We Don't Talk About Bruno" and "Running Up That Hill". Both are crazy arrangements with so much vocal agility and insane production value as far as the video goes. Highly recommend both.

Thank you for another priceless reaction to Voice Play. These guys leave no stone unturned. I love Layne's voice. He sings softer & I wish he is would sing a love song with the rest of the guys to back him up.

    Awesome reaction.
This was filmed behind the Oviedo Mall in Orlando Florida where Pattycake Productions is located. Where Voiceplay and Geoff usually film their videos.
The car belongs to Layne's dad who has had it since 1972.
Yes. Layne has a beautiful voice. He was the baritone until 2003 when Scott Porter left the group for his acting career. Geoff taught him how to beatbox. He sings every now and then.

  • @dianadonnell
    @dianadonnell ปีที่แล้ว +11

Layne do sing in "we don't talk about Bruno"
It was Geoff that taught Layne to beatbox back in the days, when Scott Porter left, to acting.
In "The Showman Medly" all 5 of them beatbox, just a little at some point.
Layne have his own Chanel as well, where he sings with his familie, so there you fully hears his singing voice.
Layne have a few names to him. Violayne and the carrot king. He is the prankster of the group.
You still have a deep rabithole to Explorer. 😂😂😂
Thank you for your reactions, always fun to watch, as you falls deeper in. 😂👍

This one blew everyone away! For more of Layne's beautiful and rarely heard singing voice, check out "If I Were a Rich Man/Girl" and "My Mother Told Me"...those are two I can think of off the top of my head, but he does sing in others as well. All of the guys just did such an amazing job on this! They are my favorite acapella group too. I like Pentatonix. I love Home Free. I totally worship Voiceplay! LOL

  • @rhov-anion

It's crazy how Layne can make demon drum noises and guttural hellhound snarls, and then he has a voice like an angel. Their cover of "True Colors" is a great one to hear him more, and he takes a solo in "If I Were a Rich Man/Girl." It's always so brief, though. We hear a line or two, never a feature. That's part of the charm: his voice SHOCKS us when we finally get to hear it. Still, I would LOVE if they did a ballad purely to feature Layne's singing voice. We know all of the others can beatbox (they do in Greatest Showman) so let them do the hard work and bless us with that pure, innocent voice. Heck, since he's Jewish I would LOVE to hear him sing "Avinu Malkeinu." (Barbra Streisand's version makes me want to cry!) The world needs more diversity like that, and it would be a lovely treat to hear him featured.

Love the reaction. Thanks for sharing it with us. There are a few songs VP have done that have some Layne singing in them. He has a verse in We don't talk about Bruno, A few lines in the beginning of If I were a rich man/woman, and they have 2 songs that have no perc at all (except for snaps and claps) so he is singing thru the whole thing - Can't make you love me, and True Colors

Did you notice the strong nod to Miami Vice where this song came out by Phil Collins? From the cool car to JNones and Cesar's dress? Leading characters in Miami Vice wore the jacket/t-shirt, chain necklace like JNone except Don Johnsons jacket was cream alot with upturned cuffs whereas JNones is red and then Cesar's look is almost exact to his Miami Vice character. Love the glitches like TV was in 80s. As far as the performance goes, I think it was FREAKING AWESOME!!! Sheer perfection. Hard to keep up with so much going on but it's one HELL of a great ride, right? Thank you for your great reaction. Easy to tell you had a ball, from your big smile and jumping around! Lol! God bless!❤🎉

There is also a short line by Layne in Running Up That Hill.
We all know that a song where we get to hear Layne singing, however briefly, will turn out a banger.
Edited to add Bridge Over Troubled Water, Can't Help Falling In Lover With You and I Can't Make You Love Me for pure vocal harmonies, including what Geoff calls 'Layne's angelic voice'
Geoff and Layne got to know each other in middle school and have sung together since then. Them two knowing each other that well, IMO helps to build that firm foundation of bassline and percussion that all the awesomeness that is VoicePlay springs out of. They really anchor the group, allowing each other member and guest to do their vocal acrobatics.

Voiceplay is just the best. I would love to see them in person, but I don't think they plan to tour extensively again. They were on the road touring the world pre-Covid. When the world shut down, they ramped up their studio work. I'm sure they miss a live audience, but touring - not so much.
Wait, you've only reacted to one of Geoff's solos?? That is just wrong, man. 😉 He released I See Fire from the second Hobbit movie a week before this one dropped. He had already done Misty Mountains Cold from the first Hobbit movie.
I am always here for Voiceplay and Geoff, I really enjoy your reactions!!

This is the song I like to recommend for newbies to VoicePlay because it gives you a taste of what everyone can do.
Geoff lows and high(er)s. Layne gets both an iconic perc riff AND vocal lines. J brings some serious soulfulness. Eli gives us both his melodic voice and full rock god mode. And of course, the Sass Master 5000, AKA Cesar, proving he is a true showman.
Addition: I also love how the video starts with the vibe that someone foolishly challenged J to a street fight/sing off without realizing the rest of his gang (VP) would show up to back him up. 😂

The 1972 car belongs to Layne's dad who bought way back when. You said J None just right. Layne was the original baritone back in high school. When Scott Porter left to do acting, Layne wanted to be the beatboxer. Geoff taught him what he knew and since then Layne has became top-notch perfection. I think VoicePlay is at the top of their game and I believe that no one can touch them now. I loved this. Have you reacted to Geoff's most recent solo I See Fire? A week into it, 530k views.

Layne sings a bit in their cover of "Running Up That Hill", he also sings throughout their cover of "I Cant Make You Love Me" which has no beatboxing. The same with "True Colors" that other people have suggested as well. All three are wonderful songs and the last two are particularly beautiful and touching

You actually have heard Layne sing a line before. It was just done very differently. We hear him in “Valhalla Calling”. Others have posted songs where you hear him more. I’m going to suggest songs where we hear him more rapping. My fave isn’t on their TH-cam channel so it must be googled. VoicePlay’s version of Cruella deVil. I think it’s actually on Disney’s TH-cam? A much older song for them (Tony was still with them). And of course more recently he rapped in Moana and a bit in “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”. There’s also one in a collaboration with Rachel Potter “I Knew You Were Trouble” where we see Geoff keeping the beat for him.
For his singing, I think “True Colors” is the best, although I’m pretty sure he has a nice bit in “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” too

Layne singing that will drop your jaw is an older one, I Knew You Were Trouble. Spoiler alert: he raps. They did Heart of Life that was a goodbye song to Earl. Most of the background vocal accents you hear are Layne's and they're layered. He's also got awesome character voice singing in Little Mermaid, Moana and Mr. Grinch. Layne was actually the group's baritone when they were still 4:2:Five and Scott Porter (yes, the actor) was their beatboxer.

Sorry if I'm repeating information you already know, but Layne actually started out as the Baritone of the group when they formed the first iteration of the group, called 4:2:Five and only started beatboxing after their original beatboxer left. He was taught some basics by Geoff, who had done some beatboxing as well, but Layne has certainly turned into one of the best beatboxers in the world! The only downside is that we don't get to hear him sing very often.
