The 2022 Audi A8L Exceptional Luxury For The Discerning Buyer | MotorWeek Road Test

  • Audi has been on the EV scene as long if not longer than its German rivals. And, up to now they’ve focused on small cars, performance machines, and utility vehicles. That means larger sedans like this A8L continue to soldier on with traditional petrol power, and that’s just fine with us! #Audi #AudiA8L

    I love my '16 A8L. It's pretty quick, super quiet, and luxuriously well-built--the cabin is devoid of any squeaks or rattles.
    The 3.0l supercharged engine gets 29-30mpg on the highway, which is great MPG for such a big car.

    Someone who has never owned an Audi may try to compare it to VW but as someone who has owned both, there is a distinct difference in drive quality and performance when you step up to Audi. People fixated on engine size are stuck in the 90s when to get 250+ horsepower & torque, you needed a V8

Looking at used A8L or Genesis g90 now. Only thing worry me about A8L used is the maintenance cost. Heard a lot of them have module issues since there are so much in the 19 year and after

    I think the A8 is a misunderstood car by a lot of the people posting in the comments. The point is to have a luxurious, safe, well built car that doesn’t make a statement. It’s designed for the person who wants the space and luxury of an S-Class but wants to do so anonymously. I assume that many A8s will be professionally driven, so the modest power output and lack of a V8 will make little difference to the principal sitting in the back seat.

    • @MercOne
      @MercOne ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anonymously is just an excuse for dull. You car have a tastefully, restrained design without it being dull. Witness Audi's own A6, which looks much better. This generation A8 is a flop because it's a dull design, made worse by it's FWD proportions. It looks like a giant Buick. All wrong on a flagship. No one buys a 100K luxury car to be anonymous. That has never ever been true or worked in the market. It's completely made up nonsense. It's why the Phaeton and K900 also failed. These cars are status symbols.

  • @roberthoyt7921
    @roberthoyt7921 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Could Audi give the A8 a new-gen model (perhaps the last run on gas) or replace it with an all-electric A8 e-tron - possible rival to the Cadillac Celestiq, BMW i7, Mercedes EQS, and Maserati Quattroporte Folgore?

  • @Andrew-zv4fm

    With all that black (literally everything is black) the car just looks unfinished and cheap. As if the final trim pieces were forgotten. And those rims are hideous. No thanks. And I’m an Audi owner who used to love the A8! They’ve now screwed with the shape of the headlights such that they’re oddly shaped, and now all rim options are just plain ugly including on the S8. Not everyone wants black trim and exterior parts. I don’t.

(EPA combined is 22MPG... same as my pickup truck got in 1991) It's December 7th and they're making a commercial for the 2022 model year vehicle... why not the 2023 model? Examples of 2017 Audi A8 are selling on autotrader for $29K+. Is this what you want your car to be worth in 5yrs? Examples of 2017 Tesla Model S (which gets 100MPGe) are all selling for $39K+... 'nuff said. What are things going to be like when you spend $87K+ on this modern Audi and have to sell it in 2027? It's gonna be worthless. You buy this huge $87K+ car and it has a pathetic 12.5cu.ft. trunk? Tesla Model S is 65cu.ft. and Model 3 is 23cu.ft. - including the trunk that is in the FRONT
