@kate6038 Yes, 'Valerie' is a Zutons song. Amy Winehouse did a cover of it for Radio 1's Live Lounge & Mark Ronson recorded it with her and released it as a single, which of course was much more successful & is much better known. Many think it's her song. I saw the Zutons recently & they did 'Back to Black' as a tribute, & a thank you. ♡x

Of all of the genres of music that need to be broken down into more specific categories to be identified properly, jazz is the worst, probably because it's been around the longest out of the different types of modern music. If someone describes something as jazz, unless I'm familiar with their tastes in music, I will have no clue what they're describing. It could be Frank Sinatra, or it could be Frank Zappa. It's all Jazz, baby!

Amy was nothing short of brilliant. There was no-one doing retro ‘60s Motown style soul/blues rock in the early 2000’s except her, and doing it to perfection.
There is a documentary, "Amy" that came out in 2015 that chronicles her life. When I watched it became so apparent that every single person on her life failed her.
Seen just about all that there is to see about her. I still think that Asif Kapadia's "Amy" is the most truthful take on what might have happened. Absolutely brilliant and gut-wrenching at the same time. I always felt like the attempts to play down the grittiness of her lifestyle (by her family) were harmful in their own right. She boozed herself up like a champion and took tons of drugs on top, to go tits up in the head. But people need to see that, especially people dealing with addiction themselves. She was no Disney princess, other than she sung like an angel. The new Back to Black movie was almost like watching a Disney movie. Almost completely ironed out all the unflattering choices she made in life. Having said that, I have to give it to the actress who played her. Great job. And acting with her own singing voice, no tapes. Very impressive, indeed.
Tony Bennett tried to help her. They did a duet - he recognized her addiction issues, as he too fought addiction and won. When she passed, he spoke about it - his regret that he just couldn't break through. I thought she was magical.
And he called her “the real deal,” which is such high praise coming from him. He lived amongst the greats, and to bestow that accolade upon her is telling of his esteem.
@@loadedorygun Lady Gaga credits Bennett for helping her achieve sobriety. She remained his most ardent friend and admirer until his recent death. You have to be willing to listen to learn, to change.

I loved Winehouse's voice and her jazzy/bluesy swag. She died from alcohol poisoning and it's such a shame, she fought many demons of addiction throughout her life. Like so many other intensely talented singers, she joined the list of those gone too soon. I still listen to her music all the time.
I, as well. There is a music video out there where she is performing on stage and drinking all the while. You can see her getting totally wasted. It made me so sad watching it. Sadly, she had too many demons. Her music was and is amazing. RIP Amy ❤
@ I've seen it happen. I haven't had a drink in 23 years, but I've seen people go back out after even more time in sobriety than I have. I personally know three people that went back out and died of alcohol poisoning.
You Know I'm no Good, Tears Dry on Their Own, Rehab and her cover of Valerie are all great songs to check out next. As for the dark theme, they're pretty much all rather dark to be honest but done in the right way.
Amy was a throwback to the early 60s girl groups, and she throws in jazz pop and r/b elements . This song reminds me of the girl group, the Ronettes, Ronnie Spector lead vocal, even her beehive hairdo. Definitely a unique voice and the production is reminiscent of Phil Spector, iconic in the 60s. Check out songs produced by Phil Spector

the one clip I always recommend to anyone learning of Amy to see just how great she really was is this one particular accoustic performance of the song Valerie. When I saw that this video was about Amy, I almost didn't open it. Seeing her and hearing just makes me sad and tears come to my eyes. Good job by you.
Listen to "Rehab"! The musical layering is remarkable. Also, she sings a cover of "Valerie" while sitting casually on a couch, and it's one of the greatest things I've ever heard.
As a rock and metal fan, I absolutely recommned you react to each and every Amy Winehouse song that people comment down in the comments. they're all 100% worth it. she was a magnificent artist and is sorely missed.
60's thru the 80's l heard all the music, in the 90's l was a workaholic, and in 2006 when l retired l started listening to Amy Winehouse she was so soulful, l loved "Back To Black" and l really like "Rehab" then in 2011she left us way to soon 💔, Peace 😍✌️ and Love❤️ Gary. Amy RIP 🙏
From the first moment I heard her, I was immediately reminded of Billie Holiday (iconic, tragic jazz singer, whose heyday was the '30s and 40's). Both sounding sort of speakeasy-ish, whiskey and smoke-tinged and sassy, but full of emotion. If Amy's short, very troubled life hadn't ended, I think she would have done great things.
It’s neo soul. This album was amazing not just because of Amy but her producer Mark Ronson. Together, they were great. I recommend Tears Dry (On Their Own).
yes, Mark Ronson has lots to do with lots of good stuff. When it comes to female, I love Nothing Breaks Like a Heart with Miley Cyrus. MollyBoy, I think you could like this one too.
Amy was a once-in-a-lifetime voice. She never made a bad song. Hers was raw, natural talent. Look at her live performances to see just how amazing she was. ❤ Would absolutely LOVE to see you react to "You Know I'm No Good."
Hard not to love Amy Winehouse’s music. I remember hearing about her problems before I actually heard her music and was astounded and saddened when I finally tuned in. Astounded because of that voice with such superb tonality and character that hearkened back to the greatest soul singers of the past yet was still totally authentic. Sad because we were watching her disintegrate in real time with an end that seemed inevitable. Her talent was extraordinary, a one of a kind, 100 year talent, and it made it all the more tragic.
9:42 That's because she was writing about her bf Blake Fielder-Civil, who left her for his ex. She later married him and was very deeply in love with him. He was also the one who introduced her to and showed her how to use hard drugs (by his own admission).
I’m gonna be 50 this year and as a music lover, one thing I’ve learned over the years is that once I stopped limiting myself to a few certain genres and started opening myself to everything else I started discovering so much good music I never thought I’d listen to before. I just wish I had learned that sooner
2:48 She was from London, btw. She performed with artists like Prince and Mick Jagger, and George Michael said she was one of his favourite female vocalists. She did a duet with Tony Bennett ('Mind, Body, and Soul') several weeks before she passed. Tony Bennett said she's one of the best he's ever worked with. Also, Amy wrote all of her songs unless they were a cover.
I’ll never forget how excited I was when I dipped into a random pizza shop in London (Camdentown, to be specific) to use their phone and I saw on the wall a flyer for an Amy Winehouse show that would be that weekend - she couldn’t have been older than 17 in the picture. Blew me away. ❤
@ I didn’t either, I saw a flyer for a show of hers from when she was a teenager, is what I’m saying. It was just a really incredible bit of a pop culture history to see up close and personal.
This song is GENIUS! Musician's ear, man. I'm telling you. You're listening like a musician. This sits at the corner of pop, R&B, and jazz. That effect on the guitar sounds like reverb to me. Keep digging!
You like the dark ones? Here you go: Black Sabbath, 1972, "Changes". Just a piano, strings and Ozzy's voice, nothing you would expect from them. Shivers without end, promised! Another great one would be: Yazoo, 1982, "Winter Kills". Alison Moyet kills it. I'm old enough to have bought the records when they were released and love them since.
You're allowed to like any kind of music. I love my classic rock but I listen to every kind of music even classical at times. No shame. We'll watch it all.😊✌️🌻🌻
The acoustic version of Valerie is outstanding. Please don't limit yourself to one genre in music, you'll be blown away by some of the music out there. Don't get fenced in, enjoy exploring 😊
The songs were written by Amy herself, and the music was written and produced by Mark Ronson. The music was heavily influenced by the Motown and Phil Spector style. Mark did an amazing job modernising the sound and reflecting Amy's writing. She was truly phenomenal and a true legend in her short time.
Amy is brilliant! Her voice stopped me in my tracks the first time I heard her in the background - been a fan ever since. Dude, react to anything and everyone!
There are plenty of examples in early rock where the lines between blues, jazz, and rock are blurred. To me, you can hear echoes of the Shangri-Las, the Supremes, Peggy Lee and others in Amy's music.
Yes, it does. Prior to her death, the video showed the tombstone. It said here lies the heart of Amy Winehouse, or something similar. Out f respect for her famiky, the video was edited to remove it.
Amy's timing and tilt was classic Jazz and of her own being, not copied, she sprouted forward her interpretation of many classics and simply nailed them with a fresh essence we don't even see once in a generation. Just check her singing with Paul Weller. heard on the grapevine. She was divine.
Well, you're in for in a treat. While her discography is unfortunately short, every song is fantastic. Her live performances are also amazing. I recommend the ones from around 2006 (the Other Voices is exceptional) because unfortunately after that she goes downhill. Exception being the Shepherd's Hall in 2007, even though she's extremely drunk, it's still a fantastic set. She also wrote all of her songs unless they were covers.
Amy was a stone cold genius & Back to Black is one of the very best albums of the modern era of popular music. She very much came from a jazz tradition. Legends such as Tony Bennett thought her exceptional. Watch that clip of her singing ‘Valerie’ backstage with just a single guitar playing along. No matter what happened when her troubles beset her, she made a huge impact in a short time. “Love Is A Losing Game” is touching, dignified, a classic from any decade. The 60s revival throwback style is deliberate and incredibly well done. Her live band were outstanding. Just dive on in mate you will not be disappointed
She always said she wasn’t a freaking spice girl and don’t treat her like one!! I loved her spirit❤❤❤it’s a Mark Ronson stamp behind her second album. He was right in her wheelhouse!!
She left us way too soon. This makes my heart hurt and my eyes fill up every time I hear it. There's an acoustic version with just her and a gent on guitar that you might like. Great reaction xx
Another classic member of the 27 club, an amazing artist and a huge loss. Good to see you finding another great female artist. For more dark and moody I highly recommend Nick Cave and Kiley Minogue - Where The Wild Roses Grow. You will love it!

As a rock and metal fan, I absolutely recommned you react to each and every Amy Winehouse song that people comment down in the comments. they're all 100% worth it. she was a magnificent artist and is sorely missed.
Adding to the 27 club is Janis Joplin. A must hear!
i was thinking of Janis while watching this video, two totally different artits but so tragically the same.
Her voice.......❤
It’s neo soul. This album was amazing not just because of Amy but her producer Mark Ronson. Together, they were great. I recommend Tears Dry (On Their Own).
yes, Mark Ronson has lots to do with lots of good stuff. When it comes to female, I love Nothing Breaks Like a Heart with Miley Cyrus. MollyBoy, I think you could like this one too.
I like that better than Blue Eyed Soul which is what most music services classify it as.
I think the last CD I ever bought was Mark Ronson's Versions. A great album.
I'm a 72 year old southern rocker and she tears my ass UP. There are no genre's that matter.... just whatever hits you.
She has sooo many good songs. U have to do 'U know I'm no good'.
She was a great musician. ❤
Genres don't matter. Amy Winehouse was a rockstar anyways. 🖤
Some people are just so special musically that it doesn't matter the genre or age...you just have the privilege of hearing it and enjoying it.
Amy was a once-in-a-lifetime voice. She never made a bad song. Hers was raw, natural talent. Look at her live performances to see just how amazing she was. ❤
Would absolutely LOVE to see you react to "You Know I'm No Good."
@PetyrinaJaye How lucky! I never got to see a concert of hers.
Love it. Love her voice. I don't think you'll get many complaints for reacting to her.
🇬🇧
"Rehab" & "Valerie" (both versions of Valerie are a must)
RIP Amy💔
You like the dark ones? Here you go: Black Sabbath, 1972, "Changes". Just a piano, strings and Ozzy's voice, nothing you would expect from them. Shivers without end, promised!
Another great one would be: Yazoo, 1982, "Winter Kills". Alison Moyet kills it. I'm old enough to have bought the records when they were released and love them since.
Tears Dry on Their Own is my favorite one from Amy Winehouse. She is missed.
You're allowed to like any kind of music. I love my classic rock but I listen to every kind of music even classical at times. No shame. We'll watch it all.😊✌️🌻🌻
I'm so happy that Amy Winehouse is still remembered. I hope that, wherever she is, she knows she's missed.
The acoustic version of Valerie is outstanding.
Please don't limit yourself to one genre in music, you'll be blown away by some of the music out there. Don't get fenced in, enjoy exploring 😊
Amy is so fire
The songs were written by Amy herself, and the music was written and produced by Mark Ronson. The music was heavily influenced by the Motown and Phil Spector style. Mark did an amazing job modernising the sound and reflecting Amy's writing.
She was truly phenomenal and a true legend in her short time.
Amy was very special. Period.❤
Amy is brilliant! Her voice stopped me in my tracks the first time I heard her in the background - been a fan ever since. Dude, react to anything and everyone!
Amy always reminded me of the soul bluesy singers in the 1930s like Simone etc wonderful thanks
Oh, yes, Nina Simone had a great voice.
‘Haunting’ is just about right buddy!
Amy was amazing. Please consider to react to Christina Aguilera' song Fighter. Has rock elements and her voice🤌🏻
Amy Winehouse belongs anywhere mate. One of very few people who’ve ever lived that had a voice like no one else alive
"Valerie " acoustic version is astounding!!
There are plenty of examples in early rock where the lines between blues, jazz, and rock are blurred. To me, you can hear echoes of the Shangri-Las, the Supremes, Peggy Lee and others in Amy's music.
I was always under the impression that the tiny coffin being buried contains her heart.
Yes, it does. Prior to her death, the video showed the tombstone. It said here lies the heart of Amy Winehouse, or something similar. Out f respect for her famiky, the video was edited to remove it.
Kind of reminds me of some old R&B. Like 50s or 60s maybe or 30s and 40s most likely.😂❤ right, jazz. You nailed it. Lol jazz with a twist of lemon.
Amy's timing and tilt was classic Jazz and of her own being, not copied, she sprouted forward her interpretation of many classics and simply nailed them with a fresh essence we don't even see once in a generation. Just check her singing with Paul Weller. heard on the grapevine. She was divine.
Wow
...just wow. I never heard Amy Winehouse before, but this us awesome! Brought tears to my eyes...thank you for introducing me to this!
This song was ironically foreshadowing. RIP Amy.
She was very talented. It was a sad day in music for me when she passed.
She always said she wasn’t a freaking spice girl and don’t treat her like one!! I loved her spirit❤❤❤it’s a Mark Ronson stamp behind her second album. He was right in her wheelhouse!!
She was absolutely outstanding and sorely missed by the music industry 😢
She left us way too soon. This makes my heart hurt and my eyes fill up every time I hear it. There's an acoustic version with just her and a gent on guitar that you might like. Great reaction xx
❤VALERIE!!!!!❤
She has that Lady Day(ie. BILLIE Holliday) vibe.... One of the most original singers of all time! Amy Wine house is like her. And yes, JAZZ!
Another classic member of the 27 club, an amazing artist and a huge loss. Good to see you finding another great female artist. For more dark and moody I highly recommend Nick Cave and Kiley Minogue - Where The Wild Roses Grow. You will love it!
yes yes yes
GOOD MUSIC is just GOOD MUSIC, MOLS!!! ...and, THIS is GOOD MUSIC!! :D ENJOY any music you LIKE!! Personally: I pretty-much like ALL MUSIC!! HUGS from TEXAS, HON!!
You can hear the darkness in her voice.
She also did a duet with the incomparable Tony Bennett! Her death was such a tragedy. 😢
Amy Winehouse is new to me - never heard her music but of course knew of her. Thanks for the review !
Go listen to her discography there isn't a single bad song.
@ thx
Ohhhhhh, Sweet, Amy is magnificent ❤ R.I.P.
I'd heard of her, but I never listened to her till the day she died. Such a loss!
Amy is a throwback to Billie Holiday, Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, etc. She's in that league...and style.
...and they're all definitely worth a listen, Mollyboy.
All talented artists from way before your parents were born.
Billie Holiday performing "Strange Fruit " is just stunning.
Her voice gives me the chills. Fucking incredible talent, it’s so sad nobody could save her
Music is but one aspect of art and there's no "right" or "wrong" way to appreciate any of it. If you find meaning, if it holds a place for whatever reason (even if you can't articulate it), that's *all* that matters.
