Based off your explanation Grunts would've had awhile to learn, considering Reach was 20+ years in the war, and Reach came out after Halo Wars 1 elaborated this for the non-book readers. Another explanation I read from GameInformer or Xbox magazine (one of those)- is that Cortana upgraded herself between Halo 1 and 2 to decipher their language for Chief on the fly, but that doesn't account for the Arbiter being able to speak to Johnson and having him understand him. Even more-so because the Covenant in 4 and 5 weren't any of the major factions but various ill-equipped splinter factions so they'd have even less materials to go around.
Halo 4's and Halo 5's Grunts just show off the classic, "If it isn't broken, don't fix it." I've never understood 343's need to entirely redesign every Covenant race in a way that entire goes against the faithful representation of previous games.
343 hired people who hated parts of Halo. One of those parts was visual design, hence the new look. Pretty bad business decision if you ask me, but hey, they made Halo 4 and 5, so no surprise there.
Halo 4 and halo 5 were both great. You guys are obviously too attached to the old looks and let nostalgia blind you. In the old halo games the way they sound and the things the grunts said made it hard to believe they helped bring humanity to the brink of extinction. In halo 4 they were more alien like and somewhat menacing. Being faithful isn’t always good. Same thing with the other races that were redesigned. The elites were cool looking in the original series but they look even cooler now and more dangerous.

Just wanted to note a couple things about the CE Grunts: 1. Grunt Majors can be seen equipped with Fuel Rod Guns late in the game, most notably on the natural bridge to on Two Betrayals' Control Room canyon after destroying the first phase pulse generator. 2. Their "Needler slapping" animation is indeed a reload animation.
Great video. You should do the Jackals next. I wish that the Grunts would have carried over the curled methane tanks and alternate masks seen in ce. In Reach they really should have had all grunts spawn with either the minor harness or the heavy harness to add variety (the spec ops would have the major harness to differentiate them). They should really give higher ranking grunts the ability to use plasma rifles, and other handguns used by Brutes and Elites.
halo 3's grunts are by far the best grunts in the entire halo franchise. There were hilarious, managable with headshots, but deadly in huge numbers or with the catch skull on. Even without the IWHBYD skull, their lines were funny as hell.
For CE you have to enable the blind skull, play SC and right before you get to the map room, there's a hidden active camo. Activate it, quickly go up to the Grunt you want to examine and there you go, homemade theater mode. It doesn't last forever though, so you'll have to restart the checkpoint a couple times. As for Halo 2, just enable the blind skull and play on missions where the Grunts are your allies. Hope that helps
I think I like the CE Grunts mostly cause their high pitch voices and dialogue was hilarious Especially the "Not again!" line was tagged with a grenade I enjoy them consistently across the media
It happened me, I didn't remember the spec ops grunt could use the alien rocket launcher (I know that's not the name of the gun, but I honestly don't remember).

@@neroidius6915 I guess a better word, although it sounds like I am talking bad about Reach, is that it was overdesigned. They put much more detail in it than necessary to make it have its own look.
Halo reach were my favorites. To me they were the toughest compared to the rest, especially on legendary, and possibly had the most when it came to armor design. Those armor were possibly the most unique and awesome of the other grunts, even the heavy ax and ultra tanks being a nod to halo ce curl back grunts. To me they were also the more brutish compared to other grunts since they only spoke in their language, while other grunts were usually able to talk English.
Hopefully he knows that the reason 343 Jackals have a different head design than Bungie’s was because they’ve established them as a different subspecies.

I can't name it all, but as long as you keep at it, I can only see you going up from here. Good luck! I hope to see you rise from 7k!
There are two instances where Halo 4 grunts can be seen sleeping. 1. There’s only one sleeping grunt right under the first elite you encounter at the bridge. 2. There’s a Spartan ops episode showing and beginning with sleeping grunts. Fun Fact: Halo Reach, Halo 4, and Halo 5 grunts are never seen to have a animation to carry and deploy plasma turrets.
Best thing a out 2 was being able to play along side grunts as arbiter and seeing what they have to say, I remember spending like half an hour in the room where you meet rtas and just swapping weapons with them all etc and seeing what cool dialogue they had
Despite the skin changes (which can always be chalked up to "cousin race" within the geneology) I really like Halo 4s armor for the grunts - since the Storm Covenant under M'dama is not as organized and efficient as its predecessor I enjoyed the constant leaking methane and less professional design, making them seem more like mercenaries.
343's grunts always looked more alien and intimidating which I loved, but they differed so much from original design that I'm in a love-hate relationship with them
The grunt goblin should return they were incredibly interesting both from lore and gameplay. Also the grunts should step out from the comedic relief and into a more serious note. Their lore feels like they are just a tragedy of a race and I would like to see that reflect.
@Kiylin684 YT all those stories of those stories would eventually have the spave free in the end. This keeping your spirits high will only work if they eventually get independence. But that is never going to happen and it feels rather strange to me.

The grunts are adorable and it always makes you feel bad to kill them when the run away, at least until they start shooting you for sparing them
Great video.
It haunts me to know that the Grunts are like 5-6 feet tall
halo 3's grunts are by far the best grunts in the entire halo franchise. There were hilarious, managable with headshots, but deadly in huge numbers or with the catch skull on. Even without the IWHBYD skull, their lines were funny as hell.
There is a reason why Halo CE Grunts are my absolute favorite Grunts.
The Halo 4 Grunts look like the crazy frog.
Never realized Halo 4 grunts have 6 packs
I saw this in my subscription notifications and got so excited
Edit: how did you get the non-gameplay footage of the grunts in combat evolved?
Possibly PC mod
For CE you have to enable the blind skull, play SC and right before you get to the map room, there's a hidden active camo. Activate it, quickly go up to the Grunt you want to examine and there you go, homemade theater mode. It doesn't last forever though, so you'll have to restart the checkpoint a couple times. As for Halo 2, just enable the blind skull and play on missions where the Grunts are your allies. Hope that helps
Not enough people appreciate how badass and strong these guys are
This guy sponsored himself in his video, what a madlad
I think I like the CE Grunts mostly cause their high pitch voices and dialogue was hilarious
Especially the "Not again!" line was tagged with a grenade
I enjoy them consistently across the media
Imagine being killed by a grunt on easy lmao.
Journalists be like
It happened me, I didn't remember the spec ops grunt could use the alien rocket launcher (I know that's not the name of the gun, but I honestly don't remember).

I think that this video has the best editing so far! I can’t wait for when you get to the jackals.
I love this series and hope it expands to all the other races and species
3:54 i love how the elite looks at the grunt in an almost dissapointed manner
This is awesome such a great video King 👑 keep up the great work love your vids and always looking forward to the next one
This man just called Grunts the cutest alien species in Halo when Engineers exist
No
Engineers are Kiddie bullshit. Odst is not an real halo game.
@@niklassororitas Lol nice reach
@@niklassororitas odst is real shit
@@niklassororitas all halo games from CE to 4 are real halo games.
The CE grunts were the best! Miss those curved tanks.
Honestly, the Reach designs should have never been used outside of Reach :/
It was for continuity
@@neroidius6915 Well, 'continuity' didn't look that good.
Reach was made to be a game with its own look. A gritty take on the series.
It was not supposed to look the same as the rest of the series :\
@@ne3333t you say that like CE isn’t a gritty game featuring a horrific recording showing a whole squad discovering some little zombies that eat them up and rooms full of corpses and you punching your fist into your captain’s face to dig up some hardware out of his brain while he’s already dying a horribly agonizing death
@@neroidius6915 I guess a better word, although it sounds like I am talking bad about Reach, is that it was overdesigned.
They put much more detail in it than necessary to make it have its own look.
@Su Us Even if they were the same as the ones in 3, which they are not, I would say 3's design is the worst of the originals anyway.
Halo reach grunts are my favorite cuz popping their heads with bday surprise on is the most satisfying
A lot of times in public people mistake me for the grunt from halo reach
Do the jackals next
Hopefully he knows that the reason 343 Jackals have a different head design than Bungie’s was because they’ve established them as a different subspecies.
@@Laserbeak316 hopefully
Those mf caught me off guard the first time they shot at me a charged plasma shoot , since then, I'm scared of them.
@@hotcocoacoffe3938 I thought they were a joke in halo ce.
That was my first time ever hearing the reach grunts speak English
Same.
Playable grunts in Infinite please. Also great video about the ultimate unit in Halo.
Marines or Jackals have got to be next
Why does the halo 4 grunts look so much like they are from ratchet and clank? Is it just me?
Probably because they’re pretty stylized compared to the rest of the game
The first halo game I played was halo 4, I loved the designs (except of the elite design), then I played the rest of halo games and I was like:
"What kind of gears of war demon first spawned in Doom is this mf grunt of halo 4?"
4:54 "Die!" "Hu Hu Hu Hu Hu" funniest thing I've heard all pandemic.
Funny too I voice act and sound like a few characters makes it more hilarious for me. Went so well too.
Just got dinner, perfect timing lol
Just going to tell you EBR, when I first found your channel I genuinely thought I was watching a 100k+ channel. You got the means to grow dude, excellent scripting, excellent background video, great editing, and great personality.
Which level in Halo 4 or Spartan ops?
@@Endtimes4ahatter the very first mission called "Dawn' I believe
@@Endtimes4ahatter The first level for the first one but I forgot which episode and chapter but the cutscene begins with sleeping grunts
Love these videos! You deserve more subs for this stuff.
I don't think it is methane in the tank in the back of the Halo 5 grunts
Very nice! Thank you for this video about the grunts!
343's grunts always looked more alien and intimidating which I loved, but they differed so much from original design that I'm in a love-hate relationship with them
Thanks for pointing out why the DMR is my favorite weapon in the later Halo series.
The grunt goblin should return they were incredibly interesting both from lore and gameplay.
Also the grunts should step out from the comedic relief and into a more serious note. Their lore feels like they are just a tragedy of a race and I would like to see that reflect.
Nap yap approves of this
@Kiylin684 YT all those stories of those stories would eventually have the spave free in the end. This keeping your spirits high will only work if they eventually get independence. But that is never going to happen and it feels rather strange to me.
"get caught by the demon sleeping on the job" halo 3 reference from the prophet of Truth calling Master Chief a demon
Me: subscribes. TH-cam: glitches out and unsubscribes. Me: NOT AGAIN!
Are you simping for this guy?
What is practical about nose only tanks is they can eat and also use their mouth as a third clasper without unequiping gear.
next one should be the jackals with their skirmishers sub species.
I love your channel, style and thorough method of analyzing Halo. Please do each member of each faction!
