I love that ending with the music and sporty stuff - I teach sports like this - every moving part broken down - I taught a well built older guy that never learned sports to hit some softballs - same way you show - just got very close - had him tap the ball - which at first he would try and 'swing' - of course missing it - and I said "no - just touch it' he did and eventually bopped it to me a foot away - then I moved back - this is also good for the thrower since bad throws are often blamed on new hitters - eventually he was clobbering them into the outfield - he was about 60 years old but he was so proud of himself - it was slightly emotional - he was "burn out" back in the 70's - never played sports
My 9 year old has been playing for 2 months. She can hit and throw, but we are having a real tough time catching the ball. She moves to the side like you showed. She is afraid of getting hurt by the ball. I'll be incorporating these drills into our routine. Wish me luck! Thank you
A nother great way to keep players from getting out of the way while catching is place them on something similar to a stool that might not be very high off the ground.
Great information. I am helping a 8 u team with catching. I used that swax ball it’s colored and size and weight of a softball but very soft and granddaughter I helped learn to catch without being scared of getting hit
Thank you, as a little league coach some new players fear the hard ball. This use of softer balls and building skills is important to building skills and building a strong team.
The problem I have as a beginner is that I really dont use my left had for anything so its not comfortable for me to catch with the glove. Also the way the glove is positioned for a catch, its hard for me to see what direction the ball is going considering the glove is big, so i find it hard to catch.
But it’s also weird because I mostly use my right hand to write unless my hand gets tired and I have to use my left but I’m mostly right handed but sports wise even soccer I’m all left handed and left footed
I’m also having that same problem too because I’m left handed and I can catch with my left hand but I can’t throw with my right which is also why if I was able to get a right handed glove I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to catch it because when it comes to catching throwing and pitching I’m all left handed and I don’t use my right hand at all for anything
Just found your channel and subbed! I am a proud #girldad and my daughter wants to get into softball. This video will be so helpful. I so appreciate you ❤️
So my problem with catching is that I can’t hold the ball wit my glove. Idk if you know what I mean but basically when i catch the ball it bounces right out. Doesn’t happen every time but when I catch with my hand I do fine, idk if it’s the gloves or just me
You probably have a problem with shaping of your glove being used. Make sure the glove is a half inch at least bigger then the ball you are using if not a inch. Kids under 10 are using 11" balls, 12U and older are using 12" balls. You may want to get a new glove and store your glove when not in use with a ball in the glove in the pocket.
How do you simply polished fielding skills for a 9 year old? I’m struggling with teaching my daughter how to move to the right so she can she can judge the ball and react to long hops.
I have a question for you. I coach 8u girls coach pitch. We are having a big problem with the girls turning their gloves the wrong way. So for example if they are a righty and catching across the body above the bellybutton they turn their glove where you see their outside thumb area instead of seeing their palm area. How would you work on breaking them of that? I hope this makes sense.
@@at4everTia that's just it. If you are twisting your wrist and having your hand the wrong way where your glove pocket is facing the sky instead of towards the direction of the ball you aren't going to catch it. Have you caught a ball with the side of your thumb? No? Didn't think so. Just wanting to teach them correctly easier to correct at a young age than when they are older. Since when is that wrong?
My daughter says it helps her close her glove on the ball while catching it easier than catching with the standard grip. I showed her the grip after an MLB player showed it to me and said that most MLB players use the grip.
..I feel like Benny Rodriguez would tell you to just stand there and stick your glove in the air and he'll take care of the rest.. and if you don't know who Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez is, shame on you..

Good luck! Just have patience and remember the more reps she does, the more comfortable she will get!

Sameeeee like fr
She really knows her stuff......helped my 12U team tremendously by doing her drills.
Makes me happy to hear!
So helpful! We had a girl join our 10u softball team who has never played any sport so I'm going to work on this with her
Awesome!
Thank you so much for teaching some softball this is going to be so helpful for when I join softball

Now in need to figure out how to teach 8U softball to catch tennis balls bare handed 😅
Just found your channel. Great drills! Any chance you have a supply list for coaches?
Thank you! And by supply list, what do you mean?
@@MegRemSoftball just a list of supplies for a first time coach. I’m coaching 6U.

My 8 year old just started softball (8u), what type of glove would you recommend for her to use?
For that age I’ve heard Mizuno is a good affordable one!
Thank you I play youth softball
I have a problem with keeping it in my glove when it’s thrown to me
Hi megrem softball I'm new but you inspire me so much 😊

To be honest these drills I show are the best way to break them of the habit. It's a bunch of repetition.
Why can't they catch it how they catch it? Why does it need to be a certain way?
@@at4everTia that's just it. If you are twisting your wrist and having your hand the wrong way where your glove pocket is facing the sky instead of towards the direction of the ball you aren't going to catch it. Have you caught a ball with the side of your thumb? No? Didn't think so.

Do you recommend groin protection for men and women?
I’m just starting soft ball my game is today this is so helpful
Tysm!!!!!
Daughter is starting softball, do you recommend the two fingers in the pinky hole?
That is all preference

Hi, what foam balls do you recommend for doing the toss indoors?
You can use either tennis balls or Tanner Tees has soft rubber training softballs. You can use code megrem to get them for 10% off + free shipping.

Thank you!
