Players used to keep playing Press Your Luck until they won over $25,000 in cash and prizes. They changed that rule, so that players from later episodes could keep playing to over $50,000. THey lowered the dollar values a bit in round two around this time to try to lower the prize budget a bit, and instead they get someone who in three days becomes the highest non-Larsen winner in PYL history.
Which makes what she did in 3 days even more impressive. It's arguable her run was the greatest in the history of the show. You can make a case for Chris Kass's (who in essence won his in 4 days since he had a 0-0-0 tie and had two monster days), Randy Melcotter's, Bob Brown's runs and Tracy's run (which was 5 straight days of five figure wins; and during her run it never seemed as if she was threatened), but then the prize budget for all them was higher. It is what you said that I make the case for Anne Marie's run as the most impressive (and all of this excludes Larson obviously but that's another argument for another day)
If they really wanted to cut the prize budget, they should have removed some of the spaces with extra spins. There were 15 of them on the board in round two, not counting the two Move One Space squares where you could also get an extra spin.
