Thanks for the video, It was certainly helpful. I had a lot of problems with this saw that I bought on Ebay. It stopped working whenever I was cutting anything remotely hard or thick then restarted after a while. I replaced the armature - no change. An electrician told me that he tested it and couldn't find a fault but it could be the switch. I replaced it and still no changes. I ended up replacing the field coil and that solved the problem. It might have been worked too hard and damaged it without blowing it completely thus the fault couldn't be found. You are right to mention that part 325 - Makita SOFT START CIRCUIT shows in the drawings that it goes in the switch but it doesn't. It goes in the motor and the part that goes in the switch is something else... Maybe I've got an older model. Thanks
Thanks so much, I’m glad it helped in a way. I bought this used and it was excellent for a few years before this fault. If it happened again I’d get someone to wire in a completely different switch or maybe even upgrade the saw🤔
I purchased my back in 2004 , mine is still working fine, I am trying to listen to what you are saying, but you have music playing, I am now retired so I am serving my saw 2704 , it’s done thousands of hours of work, now living in France.
Ah gotcha so sorry you couldn’t hear, my edits were a bit novice. It’s a great saw, I’ve toyed with replacing it but I don’t use that often. All the best, Darren
Just put new field windings on my mates 2704 I thought that black capacitor was something for the brake now I know it's for the soft start, thanks for that
I have the same model 2704, have had it for 10 years maybe, and I can't raise the blade any more, the mechanism is stuck. I'm not sure what went wrong, I started taking it apart. Also, after starting there is a knocking sound from the blade, probably it needs an overhaul.
Oh dear that doesn’t sound very well, the raise and lower can get stiff so I’ve found by taking the blade slot insert out you can lube the threaded rods but as for the knocking?

So glad it’s helped someone, I had a bit of a nightmare with it but it’s working a treat now
Where do you get your spares from? Also is the wiring diagram available anywhere? I’ve just picked up a non runner and hope to get it working again.

Just Google "makita spares" mate there will be a fair few suppliers the good ones will have a parts diagram for you to look at.
