    A big reason why the emotional aspects of the series are so strong, in my opinion, is how subtle it can be about it. It's never explicitly explained that a lot of the minor spells that Frieren collects were collected because of the influence of her previous party, and Frieren herself describes it as a hobby, but when a flashback recontextualises something as minor as knowing a spell to make grapes sour into something very personal and important to her, it hits hard. The series is full of these moments, but it never lingers on them, showing just enough to let us understand the context deeply without shoving it in our faces.

      To add to that there was one point where Frieren was trying to get passed the northern gate to get to the northern lands but was stopped by a guard she could have mentioned her name but she didn’t there is a flashback that i argue ties into why she didn’t mention her name it when her master says to keep a low profile this ties back into why she didn’t mention her name more than likely because she was used to her name being unimportant. She could have done it to try and study magic but i’m taking it as not that. (i took the quote of the master from the manga i believe the anime says it better something along the lines of just be unimportant until you go fight the demon king)

    I haven't dived into the manga yet, but the anime has already established itself as one of my absolute favorites of all time, coming in hot in at least the top 10 with the potential to come out even higher. In the span of just the first 4 episodes I had already teared up like 10 times seemingly and it just gets better and better the longer it goes on.
    This show gives me the exact same vibes as anime like Aria, Mushishi, or Girls‘ Last Tour: a serene, almost tranquil feeling that just lets you settle down and relax after a hard day’s work while still being able to maintain some of the highest emotional highs you can get. And THOSE are exactly the kinds of things I want to see more of.
    If you haven't read/watched any of these, I HIGHYL recommend ALL of them, and both anime and manga for all of them, too

    When you're blind your other senses are improved. When you want emotions to hit harder in a textual or visual format... you have to cut them down from places that are otherwise normal. This is the trick behind this manga, if one were to explain it clinically. Probably one of the first visual pieces (other than some old French Bande Dessinée that i read in the past, like Corto Maltese) that does this (which is usually either a movie technique or a textual technique - novels etc) on such a long scale. The author is playing the long game with EVERYTHING in this story. From setup, to plot, to characters to emotion that are forced almost brutally upon the reader in one short segment when finally revealed. It's been almost a decade and a half since i've seen someone put this much effort on such a scale, in their work. And so far, 12 episodes in, Mad House (cheeky of them to do two seasons in one so they don't undo their usual MO) has matched it... despite being called "washed out", "long since diminished" or " no longer relevant". With the addition of Evan Call (an ever growing artist) into the mix, and the stunning Milet (who herself is shaping into the voice of this generation)... it's a wonderful piece to follow.

      @@neerajcherukuri4052it will get down from top spot once Full Metal Alchemist stans review bomb Frieren, just like they did for any other anime that is near FMA. I love FMA, but the FMA stans are really cringe and annoying AF.

    i was also wrong about it. after the first episode i thought it was gonna be something special but it devolved into a generic fantasy almost instantly. Literally a totally morally black and white "demon army" they have go against, then they have to leave to take the chunin exams. Most generic anime romance between fern (who is nearly identical to freiren) and stark (who is nothing more than a buttmonkey). I dont really get what im suppoesd to be invested in. Freirens failed relationship with himmel? The "redo" of their romance between fern and stark? The "plot" where they meander around destroying the remants of the devil army? idk but i was so wrong about this anime. The first episode was so misleading.

    I think this video convinced me not to watch Frieren. It’s not the style of anime that I’m super into. And while I’m sure I’d like it I probably wouldn’t think it’s all great. The animation looks great, but like he said if the visuals and world doesn’t pull you in the premise has to. And well while the covid gen anime fans seem to think it’s unique, me personally I’ve seen this done a ton, especially in manga. I mean I’m sure frieren does it better than most and that’s why it’s broke into the mainstream unlike most of the others with a similar premise. But the point still stands. It looks like a chill semi dramatic anime with good animation, that is probably good but not great. Like if I ever watch this it’s with a friend to spice it up. But it doesn’t help the series that my experience with the fandom is that they seem the type to fake their taste. The type that like “underrated” manga, they “like” “hidden gems” but they don’t actually like these series that much they just want others on the internet to validate them.

    This is just another over hyped anime/manga of the season. Pretty sure for the last 5 years there have been 1 anime every season hitting number 1, then having everyone suck it off on youtube/reddit then move on to the next over hyped show. Thank God I stopped watching more main stream anime youtubers, once I complete the all the classic manga and anime time to stop going into the art form. (also japan isn't the greatest thing in the world all because they make cartoons (fk redditors))

    • @btchiaintkidding7837
      @btchiaintkidding7837 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      you see nothing special cuz you are still a youngling😎. probably late teen and definitely not anywhere close to age 25yrs. (and if you are, then bro u gotta get ir sht together tf are u doing?)
      funny thing is, it is not even deeply philosophical or brain meltingly plot heavy or anything that you need 500iq or tons of media literacy or tons of harsh life experience or something to appreciate it
      but its best moments can easily slip past lots of people i guess.
      for example; the best moment in the latest episode is when Frieren said
      "He is in heaven now" when she was asked about Heiter by the elf priest, that made me smile and almost made me teared up and kinda proud. cuz of the whole context of Frieren's lack of beliefs and her former lack of understanding on why would people believe in a God/Goddess/Heaven.
      and the anime has tons of these "Aha" moments, when someone says/does something says beforehand and you dont agree or you dont get it and suddenly the say something later or come to a subtle sudden realization after a while where it makes sense to the said character as well as the viewers and not only that but hits close to home with an weird relatability of your own IRL experience and you get this "Aha" moment where everything connects and hits you in the feels. like in the episode 2 , "it didnt have to be magic" , but then you suddenly realize due to a couple second of scene from the past of why it HAD to be magic for Fern and that frieren was right, both of their love for magic indeed stems from the same reasonings
      These moments are simple but little bit subtle i guess but these are absolutely magical. most other shows that try similar stuff are too much of tearjerker or try too hard thereby ruining the whole thing but frieren doesnt try to make you sad or anything rather handles these impactful moments way more elegantly so it never gets melodramatic like other similar stories
      so yeah, get a lil bit older, grow some hair on your peaches and then try the show later, you are embarassing yourself by calling this "sh^t" and casually passing the generously7/10 judgement so confidently.
